i kept debating whether or not to buy this shirt. then i couldn't take it any longer and just bought it. this shirt just made me watch about 10 different "It's a Trap" and Admiral Ackbar videos on YouTube. lol
I dont quite understand how selling a shirt that is modeled after two pieces of pop-culture is politically biased. Would you call it political bias if there was a shirt with John McCain in a flight suit dressed like Maverick from Top Gun or something? Or Sarah Palin dressed like a ninja because she's such a rogue?

nice write up, like you style. i agree that the shepfairey theme is getting overused, and you said it was more of a test/joke. i would have purchased the duff beer skele-viking though, had that been printed.
I love the political/star war cross reference. I don't know if your basically sayin with this shirt if him getting the office is bad or if your just doin it for a fun joke. Either way I like it and I will be purchasing it most definitely.
Stupid googly eyed aquatic alien make me buy another shirt. I wish I had this for STAR WARS IN CONCERT. Although, I did see no fewer than 7 JIMIYO TUT Vader shirts- this one appeals because...well because I like it.
Probably gonna buy it by the time the day is through. I'm not sure why people are getting all fussy over it being a biased political tee or whatever... I mean... it's a fish space commander...
Unless the good people on planet Calamari get offended, I think we should all relax a touch or two or three...
Anyway. I'll probably buy it. I just gotta gauge the fundage of this versus booze for halloween... oh, dilemmas... haha
I would love to have purchased this, but the fact that so many people actually mistook this for a political t shirt has dissuaded me. I don't want angry obamites shaking their fists at me and drunk conservatives trying to high five me.
Haha I just bought one. I also have popmonkey's zombama one. I feel like I have too many anti-obama shirts (not that THIS one is anti-anything. it's just fun.) SOmeone come out with a funny concise stylish anti-mccain shirt and I'll be complete. Screw both sides. They all deserve to be made fun of.
This is not a jab at Obama. I am just have an unhealthy penchant for popular culture.
Whenever I see a style of graphic design that peaks my interest (Shepard Fairey's Hope poster in this case), I try to replicate it. I had been working on an Ackbar drawing for another project, and then ended up using it for this instead.
csmos said: I probably wouldn't date a girl who wore this shirt.
thats the most nonsensical comment.. ever.
It's ok. I think what he meant to say is "A girl wearing this shirt (or any other) wouldn't hit on me"
I'd definitely hit on a guy wearing this t. ;)
You're both missing the joke...
Ackbar saying "It's a trap" was an internet meme made when referring to a transsexual. This is usually exploited on 4chan. Usually a shemale was depicted with Ackbar photoshopped in saying "IT'S A TRAP!"
That's why csmos said he wouldn't hit on a girl with a TRAP shirt.
agreed.
Thanks, Casio!
Bahahahaha.
And I swore I've seen all the internetz phunny pics. That's hilarious.
:D
I still stand by my comment of how I'd hit on a guy with this shirt tho.
*chuckles*
I really like this shirt, but the meme casiotone1331 has been talking about is putting me slightly off. I hadn't heard about it before, is it that well known?

well yeah.. I would, unless John McCain and the Obama octipus man were holding hands.. or at least both having an equal rep in the illustration
The Obama/Hope look is rather played out but this is more art than those on-line generators, besides it's freakin' Ackbar! There's no way I'm not getting it.
Ledin's other works are pretty hot too. I hope he will become a regular contributor to the TeeFury rotation.
Tell us about this design: Initially it was just a test to see if I could replicate Fairey's Obama poster accuratly, without using one of those silly "Obama Poster Generators". I like how it came out, so I made a self portrait in the same style with the word "TURD" under it. I was checking out your website. Looks like you're a skater, your spawn(s) are too, and you were once a hair farmer. Can you tell us about yourself: I have been skateboarding for 26 years, and my body desparatley wants me to quit...but I can't. I design skateboard graphics, skateboard t-shirts, skateboard stickers, skateboard hats, skateboard print-ads, skateboard point of purchase stuff...and little else. I may have pidgeon-holed myself a little. Skateboard companies tend not to pay in money, they pay in skateboards, so my garage is filled with skateboarding stuff, and I'm ok with that.
I am married with two sons 10, and 7. The 7 year old skates with me, but the 10 year old isn't into it. I'd like him to skate with us, but would never try and make him. I think if my parents would have tried to make me skateboard, I NEVER would have. Instead they made me go to a psychiatrist because they said I was quiet, but there must have been some other kind of crazy going on that I don't even remember...what's wrong with being quiet?!
What's a day in the life of Tom like? I work for a giant company as a DBA (Database Administrator). Most of the time I'm counting the minutes until I get to hang out with my people and watch Spongebob, and then go make art in my garage studio. There's usually some beer at some point too.
Do you own alot of shirts? I own a TON of T-shirts. Most skateboard companies like to pay in product, and not actual human money, so...I have a lot of shirts. I love T-shirts, and I wish I could clone myself so I could wear more of them every day.
If so, what's your favorite? My favorite shirt is the one I designed for Spitfire Wheels using the Spitfire head, and the JR logo I made for Johnny Romano. Johnny died a year ago, and I still feel emotional wearing the shirt. Jim Theibaud of DLXSF told me Johnny really liked the design, even though he couldn't talk when Jim showed it to him, he did give a big smile and a nod of approval.
If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it? I would become a full-time artist, and rent a really big studio, that I could fit a nice big halfpipe in. Then I would make art, art, and more art with a skateboarding break every hour or so. I would also probably put a futon in there, because skateboarding makes me sleepy. In reality, I'd probably make a little art in the morning, then skate, then get a burrito, and then sleep the rest of the day. God that sounds so good.
Do you have any interesting hobbies or tales of intrigue? I coach lacrosse to little people who don't listen. So really, I just stand there and watch them beat each other up with sticks...which is actually pretty awesome.
Any shout outs? All my homies...you know who you is.
