The perspective is way off on your toy box but you might be better suited to turn the image into a flat 2D plane. That cute look your after would be easier to portray with bold lines and solid colors instead of trying to create depth. The idea is solid I would just go in a different directions with the style.

All fair points, although I was going for a more sketchy sort of look, anyway, this is the second one, with a slightly re-done chest and shuffled around characters.
