Is there any fonts that your not allowed or is illegal to use when submitting a design or producing it, because it would be a bummer if I had a winning design but it couldn't be used because of the font?

Are basic fonts like Times New Roman, Cambria, and Arial ok?

As long as you either own the rights to use the Fonts for commercial use or the Fonts you use are free, that is the designer released them to you for unlimited use, you should be fine.

www.dafont.com and www.fontsquirrel.com have a wide collection of entirely free fonts, ones you can use for whatever purpose you like. Check carefully though, some fonts on dafont have usage limitations.

You can also find a few free fonts on www.myfonts.com (these include the licenses) as well as exceptional paid fonts I've been lusting after for a while now.

Basic fonts included in your operating system should be ok. At least as far as I can tell. Though these are very common and are unlikely to make for a nice design. Choose something different. :)

    Hope this helps.
