I'm not sure if the yellow circle/moon references anything, maybe if you turned it into a reticle so it looks like we are viewing the scene from another hunters point of view it might tie the background better to the theme.

personally I prefer the first one has more horror movie edge to it... I can even picture the poster with the tag line... "The hunter is now the hunted."
