Can Adobe Illustrator be used to create t-shirt designs?

Illustrator can make
smooth
, thick lines, and I really need that, since the pen tool in Photoshop is frustrating, and the lines it makes are very thin.

I personally use Adobe Fireworks so i would assume that Illustrator would be fine :)
