hey everyone,

i've been a long-time forum lurker and teefury shirt buyer, but i've never posted before :). i've recently discovered the fun in drawing doodles, copying them in photoshop, and posting them on the web. i figured i might as well snoop around artsy forums and try to become part of communities that i've always wanted to be a part of.

i've never taken any art classes and i don't know how to draw anything beyond stick figures ... but one day i hope to get better.

i'm a long time doodler and i made a website last week to put some of my doodles up. i'd appreciate any feedback on the website / doodles so i can get better. i hope that one day i'll evolve past stick figures and i'll be able to make stuff that's better than absolute smurf!

here's a preview of my art-style...

here's the website

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
    A great start :)

I agree with Crushem, this is a great project :)

One thing- have you considered hand-writing the text? I think it would look cool because it would match your doodle style.

thanks for the feedback! it means a lot to me :).

i originally did some in hand writing, but writing everything out with the photoshop mouse took more time than actually thinking of an idea and drawing everything else if the comic had more than a couple lines of text. i do some of the writing as handwriting now, but the larger stuff i do with fonts.

hopefully soon i'll get a tablet or a scanner and i'll be able to do more of it hand drawn!

Aw, you're stuff isn't smurf. I enjoy the simple concepts behind the comic strip. And the stick figures just give it extra personality :) Have you ever seen xkcd.com?

Stickmen type figures can be some of the best kind of art.

yea, exactly, who said stick figures are no good? My girlfriend is lucky to have had Scott Dikkers (co-founder of the onion) as a big brother for that program. He created Jim's Journal before the onion got huge. Some of the best humor and simple drawings I've seen.

thanks for the feedback and cool sites to visit everyone. i'm a bit more confident that i could be a little successful now :).

i started doing some comics with a bit of color in them. what are your opinions on whether i should use color in everything, no color at all, or just a bit of color like i'm using now.

i also took your advice and did a strip with purely my hand writing. do you think it looks better? is it okay to read?

    thanks

I think you're off to a good start.

I tried doing a comic in color once, but it took way too long to update it regularly and still have the detail I wanted. I don't know how bad this would be if you're drawing stick figures, but b/w comics tend to be a good way to start off.

If you are feeling really serious, ditch the mouse and buy a tablet. Drawing with a mouse can sometimes make things more of a hassle than they need to be.

Ha, that's really cute. I can't draw either and don't have photoshop or even a tablet or scanner, but I spent my day today drawing, which is something I haven't done in ages. This is what I came up with:
