Life Aquatic 8bit WIP. Help?

I made this little guy and was really proud of him. I submitted a design based on old shool NES box-art and then along came the supercool Game Of Thrones shirt. So Is this submittable by itself? Is there a way I can salvage it? I really love little 8bit Steve and I don't want to just throw him out.

    If you could at least submit it looking less ugly, i.e. the edges are horrible for some reason.

    And how about a nicer color than black for the shirt?

    I really hope you guys know each other and this is just an inside joke cuz this is just ignorantly mean for no apparent reason.

    I think it's a cool design and I'm not even that big on 8 bit. I do love me some LA though!

    I personally dislike the 8bit shite. NOT ART. But love the subject.
