Man I am a Voltron fanatic but I just will never wear a baby blue shirt...GREAT idea and GREAT design though! Wish somebody would do a Voltron Defenders of the Near Universe shirt too?
Too many light blue shirts! I'm always put off buy pastels... I've passed up on 5-6 great designs due to the shirt color. Shouldn't there be color options?
I'm gonna have to agree about there maybe being shirt color options. I too would have loved to have this design, but I'm not going to wear powder blue. Incredibly creative and wonderfully executed design though!
Hi! I'm Commander Mark, welcome to the Secret City! Loved that show- 7 principals of 3-d drawing.
Foreshortening, Shading- yeah, I don't know if those are legit, but that was the jam, and so is this mechakitty getting the yarn- which pilot was this one? Pudge? Imagine what he's doing in there...
And now to chime in on the color of the shirt- Is it REALLY a deal breaker?
I know tattoo artists that get folks in and they want this bad ass samurai back piece with cherry blossoms- and at the end of the consult they bust in with- Oh, no pink or purple in the tattoo. Really? You don't like the color, but dig the design? Guess what? It's a piece of clothing- you can get the awesomeness out of the design, but it's not branded on you for life- ever feel like a non-baby blue moment? Well it's a $9 shirt, and hopefully it doesn't comprise your whole button-less wardrobe.
Now I'm rambling, but I would rather have an awesome design on a shirt color I'm ont fond of than have an ass load of shirts in a color I like with uninspired designs. SOLD SOLD SOLD. Hell, I suggest a whole series with them doing other feline things- licking a saucer of milk, shredding curtains- chasing those smuuuuuurf mice of the castle- am I the only one that thinks there's a series of shirts here? Hell, turn the Black Lion into Ceiling Cat, and I'm sold.
I can't get my posts to stick worth anything! stupid IE6. Hi, I'm Commander Mark, Welcome to the Secret City. Loved that show- 7 principals to 3D drawing, Shading and Foreshortening were two of them- can't remember the rest.
To those that are griping about the shirt color- get over it. To me, the design is more important than the shirt color.
If a bad design is on a color that I need, guess what? I'm not going to get it. A great design on a less than stellar blank? Yeah, I'll get it.
The shirts are changeable, and I'd hate to think I missed out on one because the shade of kelly green used didn't match up perfectly with my Boston Celtics hat.
I have tattoos that have pink and purple in them- GASP- while this has led to bar flies asking if I were queer, I didn't dictate the colors to the artist.
It's not that big of a deal. I would much rather buy, accomplished by the way, a baby blue Voltron shirt than a charcoal gray LOST shirt which I have no clue to it-
I really do think that the shirt color is splitting hairs- unless the contrast is needed, which I don't think applies in this case. Happy Black Friday!
Ugh! Not loving the powder blue shirt, would've looked so great on a red or deep blue background. But the art is fantastic! The shirt color is the only thing keeping it from instant, must buy status... I may still have to buy though, even in this god-awful color.
Anyone ever stop worrying about the color of the shirt and just buy it because you like the design?
Most colors can work with anything... and you can buy it and learn to like the color. I have bought shirts before that were a gross green color, but I just couldn't pass up the design.
Brilliant idea and design but most people growing up in the eighties watching this cartoon are in their 30s now, are male and probably aren't real keen on nancy blue shirts.
I'm with Lemonpyxie...too many of these hot designs are on odd colored shirts...traditional black anyone?
Lemonpyxie said: Too many light blue shirts! I'm always put off buy pastels... I've passed up on 5-6 great designs due to the shirt color. Shouldn't there be color options?
I agree that powder blue isn't the best color but people who want "color options" need to realize this would increase prices since each color shirt would be ordered in less quantities than a single batch of one color. For example if you buy 25 red, 25 blue, 25 black and 25 white, its likely that the price per shirt at the printer will be higher than if it was 100 blue. And since they cant predict how many would sell of each color, it would smurf for them if they offered say, blue and green but only 4 people ordered the green option. We love our $9 shirts, and for teefury to keep costs down one color is the easiest way to do it.
ishmaelone said: people who want "color options" need to realize this would increase prices . . . We love our $9 shirts, and for teefury to keep costs down one color is the easiest way to do it.
Completely agree.
Based on 79 tees (today's tee to the bottom of page 5 in the gallery; there are 5 shirts where the color of the male shirt differs significantly from the female shirt, so I included those; I subtracted the grab bag and the old Gruss Von Krampus), there are:
38% or 30 very dark tees (13 black, 9 dark blue, 8 dark gray),
39.2% or 31 pretty light tees (11 white, 8 light gray tees, 9 light blue tees [not all the same shade of blue, but still pretty light], 3 yellow),
12.7% or 10 kind of dark tees (6 brown, 4 olive green),
10.1% or 8 kind of bright (1 green, 7 red).
Thus, the number of light and dark shirts printed at Teefury are roughly equal. I have a list of what colors I labeled each shirt, but I don't think it would be worth posting, as it would take up the whole page.
Thank you Teefury for attempting to satisfy the appetites of many different people.
I would buy 100 of these to last a lifetime IF the shirt wasn't this colour... You could have sold a lot more if it wasn't blue.. I want it bad but not like this, no buy.. Shame. Awesome design dude!

I LOVE it! Purchase! I would have purchased multiples if it was Ravage from Transformers (not complaining, just saying I know a lot of Transformer fans)! I agree on the comments about the pastel shirts - I'm more likely to buy a bolder color.

I agree lets get some new tee colors! gray, green, maroon, or clay?
Lemonpyxie said: Too many light blue shirts! I'm always put off buy pastels... I've passed up on 5-6 great designs due to the shirt color. Shouldn't there be color options?
whether they make the shirts themselves, or order them from a supplier, more options will always mean more cost to the consumer. what they actually need is someone who isnt color blind picking the background color for most of these designs. and this is coming from someone (me) who IS colorblind and can even tell that a lot of the tshirt colors are in terrible contrast with the designs they come with.
Lemonpyxie said: Too many light blue shirts! I'm always put off buy pastels... I've passed up on 5-6 great designs due to the shirt color. Shouldn't there be color options?
I actually think that the light blue looks with this design. I wasn't digging the light blue with the design with all the Doctors falling out of the Tardis...
The colors of the Voltron aren't super dark, otherwise it would look strange (like the recent Doctor Who shirt). It's all about how the design looks with the color, which looks pretty good to me :)
Love it.
who gives a smurf about the shirt color? it's about the design, that's what your money's going towards. and if you just can't buy it because it's baby blue... -_-, most artist put it on their own website and you can pick the color you want. Downside is your almost paying double or triple the amount on teefury...
Yay voltron shirt! And the shirt can't really be other colors as it already has green, red, yellow, black and white. Make it a darker color and the image just won't pop. Idk, that's just my opinion.
you like the crab side art dont you? yeah, i could see that. you silly goose, but its ok. cus.... well your just a goose in general. oh nice picture by the way.
Tell us about this design. As a kid I loved anything that was both cartoon and toy -- those marketing tricks worked on me every time. This design was a playful look back at the defender of the universe, and what might happen for those cat's when Zarkan and Lotor aren't causing troubles.
What was your favorite cartoon as a child? Well Voltron was high up there. Right now I wish I could say it was my favorite, but I think Transformers G1 was the time suck when I was a kid. My fondest TV memories though are of Commander Mark (Mark Kistler) and his drawing/art show. To this day I still draw "poof" clouds the way he taught me. He was like Ed Emberely only cooler.
What's your favorite cartoon now? Sadly I watch a lot of cartoons still. Adventure Time from Pendleton Ward is algebraic!
What's your usual process for creating a piece? Usually it's about finding references - from photos, to information design, or a description in a book. Once I am locked in on the inspiration, I tend to shut out a lot of extra inputs — no web surfing time or t.v. influence since I found I would rework pieces endlessly as I thought of new things. This also lets me experiment and develop my own style organically without too much of my inspiration creeping in. I work directly in Fireworks or Illustrator, and generally by mouse unless it call for a more expressive line (where a tablet is key) -- I'm in love with the new blob brush and use it with a tablet endlessly nowadays.
Is there an art tool that you couldn't do without? The internet. Seriously. I find the coolest things to inspire me, I can promote designs and get critiques, and I even have the opportunity to share my designs with others thanks to sites like Teefury!
Name five items by you right now. My youngest child and the fake food she's trying to feed me, a pencil, my moleskin sketchbook, and my beloved Axio hardpack
