Hm. I'd probably like/get this shirt if I knew the background to it. (IE, What "Gruss Von Krampus" is, what that thing on the shirt is, what it's doing, why, etc.)
I may look it up later.
This was previous sold on Shirt.Woot [don't link other sites here]
Still a decent design, just not for me (since I didn't really know much about the Krampus outside of The Venture Bros and a few things here and there).
I WANT IT SO BAD!!! But I am turned off 100% by the writing at the bottom. This is actually the first MissMonster shirt shown here on TF that I won't be buying :(

Gruss Von Krampus is Greetings from Krampus in Germany. MissMonster briefly explains the background in "about the design" up in the right hand corner.
This shirt design seems so familiar somehow, I can't quite put my finger on it....oh wait, I know -- it's because I bought this exact same shirt last year. :P
Not that it's a BAD shirt, and I love me some Missmonster, but come on...
Missmonster is always a win!
However, I'm intrigued: you guys call the design Gruss VON Krampus. I'm reading VOM, which is grammatically correct (a contraction of "von dem") and much cooler since it means "Greetings from the Krampus"...
Xila said: Hm. I'd probably like/get this shirt if I knew the background to it. (IE, What "Gruss Von Krampus" is, what that thing on the shirt is, what it's doing, why, etc.)
Ok, I couldn't find the artist name on Woot and it seemed like a rip off. Sorry for the misunderstanding, my fault, just looking out for artist property. :P sorry
I worship you Missmonster but I find the font on the bottom is going to get lost in my belt, wish it could have been more in the middle of the design but that's not really your fault.
Is that a baku I spy in the first side art? I want THAT on a tshirt, a purple shirt too. I have zero purple shirts and this guy is just the love/eater of my dreams.
PaintedRoadkill said: But I am turned off 100% by the writing at the bottom.
u know what the writing means? its german and it means: greetings from krampus!
i mean, if u live somewhere where teh peeps arent used to speakin/readin german, makes the tee just more awesome, if they focussing on the text, tryin to understand it! ;)

It is believed that Krampus accompanies St. Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children.
Cool design, and I love how it completely covers the shirt rather than being too small. Not really a reference I'm familiar enough with to want, but cool design nonetheless.
Thanx Missy- Lovely old design that I always loved. Wonderful concept the old folks came up with. I think he'd even scare the s**t out of some of today's thugs.
Lion elephant side art is reminding me of the pet thing on Zorg's desk in The Fifth Element... Maybe that's what it becomes when it grows up. I think I like it.

I bought this shirt last year on woot, and in English. I'm actually a little confused and disappointed. Confused as to why the same design was re-submitted on a different site, and disappointed at the realization that if artists are submitting designs to multiple tee-a-day sites, they really aren't as special as we're led to believe.
As a woot user I'm kinda feeling screwed over for jumping on the design when it came out last holiday season.
Badass. I love old folklore demons and trolls.
Reminds me of a little diddy, that goes something like this...
MUSTA-KRAKISH, MUSTA-KRAKISH
AWAKEN AWAKEN AWAKEN AWAKEN
TAKE THE LAND THAT MUST BE TAKEN
What is the point of the artist "retaining the rights to their design" if they don't continue to promote it and use it elsewhere? Do you honestly expect an artist to abandon a design once it has been used once? I see absolutely nothing wrong with missmonster submitting this design to teefury, and anyone with sense will see it's a good business practice! Why not expose even more people to her great work, and give more people the opportunity to purchase her art?
You really have to have a pretty great sense of self-importance to be offended by an artist doing her job!

its just the Evil Sidekick wich comes with the Nikolaus (Santa Claus) and gives bad children coal instead of sweets in their pouches
Bought! I have a few others from MissMonster, love red shirts, so I wasn't going to miss this one. Glad to be getting a shirt from tee fury, it has been a while.
Krampus is a bound devil who escorts the benevolent Saint Nikolo on the eve of his day ~ Nikolo tests the children with their Catechism and good behavior. If they pass he gives gifts and treats. If they fail, Krampus is set loose to deal with these bad children; worse than lumps of coal & rotten potatoes, he may also use a switch of twigs to beat them and molests the bad children in other ways... giving them a taste of Hell to come. He comes disguised as the sinister farm hand or servant named Ruprecht in Lutheran lands, because Martin Luther tried to squelch demon superstitions... although his name still harkens to the running demons of the 12 wild nights of winter. On the eve of Saint Nikolo's Day (December 5th) children are put to bed and warned of their peril. They may avoid a direct visit by leaving shoes outside the door. If they sleep soundly, they will not have to deal with the test, and in the morning of St Nikolo's Day (December 6th) they will find either treats & small gifts in their shoes, or a switch, lump of coal, or rotten potatoes. Parents are expected to use the switch on those children so designated as having been really bad. Perhaps they can heed the warning and behave better until Christmas when the Christ child brings gifts.
(Aren't you glad you did not grow up in Austria !?)

I am glad it's up early so I can break it in !! (and I, your neighbour to the North, won't be getting any scary ones before Halloween anyhow). This works out great!
I am waiting for the one in the email that was like a birdhouse and a bird!!! I AM SUPER EXCITED! Hopefully it doesn't have a monster head or something!
Insta-love, insta-buy, insta-fabulous! Been wanting this design since I first saw it on MM's site and to get it with the german text is just the icing on the cake. I also will have fun explaining the history of Krampus whenever I proudly wear this shirt!
PaintedRoadkill said: I WANT IT SO BAD!!! But I am turned off 100% by the writing at the bottom. This is actually the first MissMonster shirt shown here on TF that I won't be buying :(
Awesome design here. Although I'm trying to picture the market for the Krampus greeting cards this was based on. Would it be in the holiday section? Or perhaps the condolences section?
"Sorry for the loss of your naughty children to the Christmas demon... And a Happy New Year!"
"Gruss von Krampus" means "Greetings from Krampus." In Germanic regions St. Nicholas visits good children and fills their shoes with goodies. Krampus is his assitant that goes along, and punishes the bad children. In more extreme lore, Krampus puts bad children in his basket, and dumps them in Hell.
Wow, fantastic shirt! Bold, creepy, and startling. I love that the design is huge and covers most of the shirt (if that's really how you're going to print it). And a great conversation starter at Christmas parties!
BTW, if anyone wants this shirt with English text instead of German, it is available on a certain competitor's website. Personally, I prefer the German.
Speaking of which, I'd really like an official ruling from missmonster herself on what the text actually says. Teefury has named this "Gruss von Krumpus," but it does look like "Gruss VOM Krumpus."
According to the Google Translator, the former means "Greetings from Krumpus" and the latter, "Greetings from THE Krumpus."
One more thing. After looking through missmonster's other Teefury shirts and artwork on her Etsy shop, I'd LOVE to see a non-monster octopus or squid shirt from her.

This is awesome BECAUSE it is an obscure folklore reference and not something from tv or a video game. Bought.
Those who don't like it because it's not immediately recognizable should try cracking open a book now and again. Brainy is sexy, people. Thanks, Miss Monster!

Totally worth it!

Brainy may be sexy, but condescension/arrogance certainly is not.
Great design. My wife missed out on this shirt the first time around (the Woot version) and regrets it. It'll be nice to surprise her with this version.
EUREKA!! I'm so glad this shirt is available again! It was sold out for the longest time on MissMonster's site, and $25 from RedBubble is a little pricey for me currently. Awesome, awesome, awesome. MissMonster rules!
I normally hate text on t-shirts when there's a cool design, because it's usually superfluous - but this time it turns a neat shirt into an AWESOME shirt, for me.
Hi gang! Today's Krampus design is now unavailable- after some discussion with the artist, MissMonster, we've decided to take it down while we review some contracts :)
Thanks for understanding, and stay tuned for a new design tomorrow!

What does that mean for those of us that have already bought the shirt? Will we still receive them or will our orders be canceled?
I'm a bit confused here, if this shirt was in the preview, for as long as some people have said, then why didn't they review the contract, when they had known for weeks it would be on their site? Why wait 15 hours after the shirt was on sale to do this?
All I know is I bought this shirt, the money has been removed from my account... I wonder what protections we have as consumers, and what obligations Teefury has to print this shirt for the ones who already purchased it. I haven't bought a shirt from teefury in a year, I will not be happy if the one shirt I decide to buy, out of the entire year gets pulled and doesn't get printed.
If two parties (TeeFury and Missmonster) have already agreed to a contracted agreement in selling this shirt weeks ago, it is expected of me that both parties will keep their words.
I purchased this shirt as soon as it was put on sale on TeeFury and the money has already been removed from my credit card, so I expect this shirt to be printed. If it isn't printed, I will certainly not be happy.
MissMonster was advertising the shirt would be available here via missmonster.com on the 24th (3 days ago). So, I don't think it is a contract issue between MissMonster and TeeFury. Likely it's a contract dispute between MissMonster and another site (possibly woot?) that currently or previously sold the same shirt.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE open this design up to more orders!!! Saw this on shirt.woot after it was closed out, and have been waiting for it to show up on teefury. PLEASE! (And I'm really not one to beg.)

Ohhhhh you're probably right.
I hope that or any other site doesn't get in the way of things.

If this is true, I hope things are resolved before midnight and the teefury staff would be awesome enough to put Krampus back up! I really want this one, and I see there are many others like me!
The issue if I were to guess (and of course, I say this after finally deciding to pull the trigger) is that this shirt appeared on shirt.woot in almost the same design. I was amazed when I got the email preview as I thought, I know I've seen this before somewhere, I did some research and came up with which is EXACTLY the same art with the only difference being different text. A bummer as TeeFury shirts trump Woot for price and quality. But I can see why Woot, now backed by Amazon, might have some opinion that MissMonster isn't allowed to sell the same design (read art) on a tee anywhere other than perhaps her own site. Bummer, bummer, bummer. Almost as big as a huge sasquatch fan missing the Patterson Cookie Monster shirt...
This appears to be a problem between Missmonster and Shirt
Woot. I think that once Teefury was informed of a contract between Missmonster and ShirtWoot they had no choice but to pull the design. Integrety would demand that they not print the design. It would be the right thing to do.
So will this shirt be available again if the contract is resolved? I saw it this morning but didn't plan on buying it until this afternoon...I have NEVER seen a shirt "sold out" before, so I didn't have any urgency to buy earlier.
J_Sal said: So will this shirt be available again if the contract is resolved? I saw it this morning but didn't plan on buying it until this afternoon...I have NEVER seen a shirt "sold out" before, so I didn't have any urgency to buy earlier.
I'm betting this is out of the hands of Teefury. If Missmonster has contractually committed this design to someone else (possibly ShirtWoot), then Teefury can do nothing considering they aren't a party to the contract.
Please, oh please don't cancel our orders. I MUST HAVE THIS SHIRT!!! I cried for days when I missed buying it on Woot last year. Love missmonster's artwork and this is my all-time favorite. I was elated to see it on Teefury last night and bought it right up, without hesitation. I'm so sad right now.
I guess they think they'll sell more when people know they won't be able to get it again. Doesn't matter really - if you don't like the contract terms, do business with someone else.
Guys, please try to comment civilly. This was a misunderstanding, so no one is the enemy here. I know it's a difficult situation, and we're trying to handle it in the way that is most fair and ethical.
KyleMittskus said: IMO, MissMonster should not have resubmitted this shirt to Teefury (with a minor change, which may or may not have been intentional due to what we are currently talking about) and Teefury should not have accepted it.
Just to clarify this, we would NOT have sold this design if we believed it was currently under contract to Woot. That's why we took it down.
We don't mind printing designs that have been printed previously if 1) the design is awesome and 2) there are people who still want to buy it. As long as the artists have the rights, we're in favor of them earning more money for their work.
All you angry people should chill out. A site like TeeFury clearly isn't out to get you, as they rely heavily on costumer loyalty and satisfaction. No, you can't get this shirt. Bummer. But it's not TeeFury's fault, and I'm sure they're going to refund everybody or give out a free shirt voucher or something. They're not just going to take your money and tell you to take a hike. Cool your jets, angry T-shirt enthusiasts. TeeFury will do right by you.

Sorry to insinuate that. I don't think Teefury is that business un-savvy, nor do I think you knew that this design was under contract and said, "We don't care. Print it!" However, IMO, Teefury should have done a little deeper digging, although I guess this is the cost of business. I think the same about shirt.woot when they print shirts that are copyrighted, copied, etc., though.
Several comments deleted - any discussion about Woot is getting deleted. This is not the place to argue about their business practices or corporate partners.
I know it smurfs that this design isn't being printed, but there is no need to badmouth another site. There is no bad guy here, just several parties in a bit of an awkward situation.
Halting sales on this design was the right thing to do here, and it's been done. End of story.
I love how people are laying blame in all the wrong places. Shirt.Woot is not at fault for this, nor is Teefury. The artist is to blame. He is in control of whether his shirt gets printed or not. He gave Tee Fury the go ahead without realizing he was still contractually obligated with Shirt.Woot, this is really jsut a giant mix up, shirt it smurfs that we don't get our shirt, but Tee Fury relies on life-long customers to operate. As a business, they will do anything possible the ensure we, the customers, are paid back and or are happy with our experience here. That is why Teefury is so popular, because they o deliver on that. I love you Teefury, dont ever change!
I know it was right. And I'm sorry about my comments. I was just really excited, like I said. It was basically my favorite shirt I have ever seen ha.. I am sorry again, and though I think the situation was handled in the most appropriate manner, I really wish it hadn't been :)
Nooooooooooooooo!!!!! It was such a cool design. I know it put Teefury in an awkward situation, and no doubt made the right call to pull the shirt. Ugh such a bummer though. It was a wicked shirt.
I dig tomorrow's shirt, though. I wonder what shirt color it will be on.

Well Bring this shirt back once the contract is up, sure it stinks we missed it now, but its a Christmas shirt anyway right!? bring it out at XMAS time (please)!!!

Agreed - this is a really cool shirt, and it smurfs that there were issues which resulted in its being removed from the site. : ( Sad day.
But I'm also wondering: doesn't TeeFury sell dead bird shirts when this kind of thing happens? Is that no longer the case? I remember something similar happening a year or two ago with a David Bowie design (I think?), and they sold dead bird shirts instead! That makes me sad. I have been wondering if I might ever get another chance to purchase one.

But.. you don't understand... that shirt kept me going all day.
Tonight, after work, I will get three copies of that shirt. That was the plan. That was the PLAN!
I understand pulling the shirt from further sales, but to cancel already placed orders is pretty lame. Whoever is at fault, doesn't matter. TeeFury should have stepped up and worked something out with Shirt.WTF or whatever it's called to make good on the orders. I am pretty angry right now. Surely, some sort of settlement could have been agreed upon...
Aww, I hate the fit of the aforementioned site that I might get deleted for re-mentioning, so I was stoked to see the tee here. But whatevs, stuff happens!
i am so so SO happy to see this happen, because i am seeing familiar faces posting (sirknifesalot, stablercake, etc) and this reminds me of old teefury that dealt with all kinds of shirts and all kinds of different talents and even issues (JUNE 19 NEVER FORGET). these days, i feel as if even though popularity and pancakes have skyrocketed, everything else has dwindled and i have had no urge to make a comment about it.
i am sorry to see this design go, it was fantastic, as is Miss Monster, and i hadn't bought in 6 months or more.
i am NOT happy that there is no dead bird. where is he?! Dead Bird is my favorite out of the bunch, the only character on my laptop! i would LUNGE at any time to get a teeshirt with dead bird on it. its a part of teefury history and part of teefury life. there are still 2 hours and 45 minutes left,
No. Pardon me for posting just a portion of the sentence, but the sentence did not stop after the word best. I don't care what you say.

P.S. You may have had me in your parenthetical statement, but not above.

Enh I'm a lot less pissed then I was hours ago (sleepy time is kicking in). The explanation of events makes sense. The design is great and if ever an opportunity presents itself in which the design can in fact be put on Teefury I'd like to see it happen, as would plenty of other Teefurians.
I'm so sad, I've been waiting for this shirt for a long time.
Now that it's canceled, what happens to the people that already ordered? do we get a credit for a free shirt, or do we get our money back?

I agree. Overall, I can honestly say I do enjoy shirt.woot about as much as I enjoy the fury (okay thats a Lie, Teefury owns and is clearly superior, but shirt.woot isnt bad by any means either) AS someone who placed an order within 30 seconds of the shirt posting, I am incredibly disappointed, but I can understand the dilema. It is what it is, no need for anyone to badmouth anyone, it was simply a misunderstanding. Although a fairly disappointing one for Krampus Fans...
Which leads me to ask... Any other artists want to whip up a quick Krampus Tee so I can order one before Christmas Season? I work in a toystore and its pretty much necesary I own one.
wow very interesting, maybe something could have been worked out instead of canceling all the orders (but what do i know), alot of disappointed teevils i imagine tho
This makes me super sad. Especially since the other site also does one-day prints. Why do they keep the rights?
*sigh*
I guess it'll be a few more months before I order anything. Today's shirt is pretty great, but it's on a grey shirt (I have two already, and I hate that color).
Gee, I don't know... perhaps an email to this effect would have been nice. I only found out about this because I was hoping you might have a new shirt worth buying. I understand your predicament, but in all honesty, you should have fulfilled the orders that were placed. Its not our fault someone dropped the ball.

Missmonster, "I became aware of Krampus after constructing a demon costume in 2005. That's me on the far left with some amazing He-Man costumers."
"I had a lot of comments saying it looked like a
folklore character named Krampus. I looked him up, lo and behold...it
did look like one of the traditional costumes used during festivals.
Krampus is sort of a Christmas demon thats seen in Austria, Germany and
many other regions. The legend varies but basically he assists Saint
Nicholas by punishing the bad children, while Nick rewards the good
kids. I knew a guy that had been to a Krampus festival in Germany and
actually got whipped...HARD! They don't kid around! This design is based
on the Krampus greeting cards that were popular in the early 1900's"

BTW, if anyone wants this shirt with English text instead of German, it is available on a certain competitor's website. Personally, I prefer the German.
Speaking of which, I'd really like an official ruling from missmonster herself on what the text actually says. Teefury has named this "Gruss von Krumpus," but it does look like "Gruss VOM Krumpus."
According to the Google Translator, the former means "Greetings from Krumpus" and the latter, "Greetings from THE Krumpus."

I purchased this shirt as soon as it was put on sale on TeeFury and the money has already been removed from my credit card, so I expect this shirt to be printed. If it isn't printed, I will certainly not be happy.

Woot. I think that once Teefury was informed of a contract between Missmonster and ShirtWoot they had no choice but to pull the design. Integrety would demand that they not print the design. It would be the right thing to do.

I'm betting this is out of the hands of Teefury. If Missmonster has contractually committed this design to someone else (possibly ShirtWoot), then Teefury can do nothing considering they aren't a party to the contract.

MJsaid 82 weeks ago
I know it smurfs that this design isn't being printed, but there is no need to badmouth another site. There is no bad guy here, just several parties in a bit of an awkward situation.
Halting sales on this design was the right thing to do here, and it's been done. End of story.

But I'm also wondering: doesn't TeeFury sell dead bird shirts when this kind of thing happens? Is that no longer the case?
