It's awesome that you've decided to donate the proceeds from this shirt to charity! Tell us a bit about the charity you've chosen.
Recently a well loved and respected member of the Nerdfighter community called Esther died of cancer at the age of 16. She and her friends had a massive helping hand in all kinds of world-suck decreasing projects along with running the blog effyeahnerdfighters. The money that is made will be split between a teen Cancer Research charity, and Partners in Health. PIH is a charity which prides itself in not only providing healthcare and education to some of the poorest countries, but also addresses social and community needs too.
How would you describe Nerdfighters to TeeFurians who may not have heard of it until today?
Basically its a community of people made of awesome that where formed around the videos of John and Hank Green, also known as the Vlog Brothers. Since January 1st 2007 they have been communicating with each other via video blog every weekday. By just being proud of all things Nerdy, their followers coined themselves as Nerdfighters! Contrary to what the name suggests, they fight on behalf of Nerds.
Nerdfighteria is the metaphysical fictional island which the community exists on.
Describe some of the references in this design, and why they're important to Nerdfighters.
I tried to cram as many references to a lot of Nerdfighter in-jokes as I could into one design, the main crest centres around the almost iconic foreheads of John and Hank, coupled with their respective professions (John is a author of many fantastic books, and Hank is a hilarious musician)
DFTBA is an initialism (not an acronym as John points out) which stands for Don't Forget To Be Awesome, a slogan used as a sign off for many Nerdfighter conversations, and just a friendly reminder to be awesome, which everyone needs now and then.
Other references I encourage you to seek out if you are new to the concept of Nerdfighting :D
Nerdfighters fight against suck. Which suck do you most wish you could banish from the planet?
There are a lot of things I would like to personally erase from existence, but by doing so might end up being extremely selfish of me. So I would just say anything that serves to make Nerds unhappy in any way!
Which awesome would you most like to create in the world?
My most awesome creation would be the island of Nerdfighteria itself! A self sufficient community driven place where Nerds can visit and always feel at home. Its existence in our heads will have to do for now. Complete with the second most awesome thing which are Puppy-Sized Elephants, which John explains as having the evolutionary advantage due to being so adorable!
What is your process for creating art?
My process starts usually from small thumbnail sketches of what I want my design to roughly look like, then from that I start to make basic shapes in the computer and play around with scale and positioning.
What are some of your favorite websites?
If you are interested in being a Nerdfighter, chances are you already are one, but just to be sure, go and watch any of John and Hank's amazing videos at:

The Nerdfighters are, in the most basic sense, followers of John and Hank Green (the vlogbrothers) on YouTube. The community sprang up in 2007 around the brothers' year-long project involving videoblogging back and forth between one another every weekday for a year. Since then, the Nerdfighter community has grown tremendously.
Nerdfighters often refer to the idea of "decreasing worldsmurf", ie, decreasing the amount of smurf that currently exists in the world. The community has done some really amazing things, including (but not limited to) starting the YouTube Project for Awesome - a yearly worldwide mass-charity-drive run through YouTube - and helping the Harry Potter Alliance send three planes full of supplies to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
The Nerdfighter motto is "DFTBA" - Don't Forget To Be Awesome.
