Just the skull in the helmet is enough -- it's very good, actually. But the text? Blech. The text makes turns a great drawing into a lame t-shirt, sadly.
the art is sweet but i think the "punk is not dead" isn't needed not is this very punk, not that these comments are useful. congrats on the print regardless
As much as we all hate text, without it the design wouldn't make any sense, just a dead Roman soldier. The text placement and coloring is very good on this one. A cheesier artist would have incorporated it into the helmet.
I get the feeling (based on the side-art) that Sassa missed Skin Week in art class.

I disagree. The text placement is the "obvious" place for it under the wing of the helmet there; it's not daring or anything. And why would the design make "no sense" without text? Do you really look at art that literally? It would be *fine* without the text. As for what the text says itself, not only does it not match the image, like I said earlier, but it's horribly cliched as well. The word "punk" is overused in art, literature and music.
Hey people! Thanks a lot for the comments so far.
The side arts are from a brazilian t-shirt brand i work.
Sorry about the shirt text if you didn't like it.
cheers!

oh, come on.
This is not an art masterpiece like some Dali, Frida or Picasso painting to take care about cliches. That's just a t-shirt.
Yes, i'm joking using a "big cliche" like so many people do everyday on shirts, cartoons, TV, Movies, Photos, whatever. People deal with it everyday and many good stuff are made this way. What you call cliche, i call pop.
My point here was make a MashedPotato between a Punky mohawk haircut and the Roman helmet brush stuff. If was without text, people could not identify the "punk" on the joke judging just the skull.
I believe the text maybe is not too necessary, but i agree with Kerig.
Thanks for your comment. Maybe it can help me on my next works. Seeya!
About the text on the shirt...... this is incredibly similar to the band "THE EXPLOITED" 's "Punks Not Dead" album and t-shirt. A very popular punk rock staple. The text is the touch that makes it conceptual instead of just a neat drawing. Good show Sassa!

Without the text it's just a design. The text gives the Spartan helmet a modern connection. He's trying to convey that punk being dead is unlikely.
Though the expression usually refers to the original punk music in which case I agree with it. The style and raw intensity of early punk is gone in "punk" music of today.
If you like punk its a great shirt. I dont mind the text, it goes with the image.
I wouldnt buy it. Especially not with the text.
Never been a fan of punk, either the music or people who use the whole punk aesthetic to act like a smurf cos they 'dont care' (You will when you grow up son).
It probably is dead now anyway, or at least in a coma.
Like the art a lot though.

If punk isn't dead, then why is it being portrayed as a skull? Logic destroys whatever message there was, so I agree to just present the image sans text and let people draw their own feelings from it.
I would love to buy this for my little sister, but sadly I keep checking my bank account and direct deposit has still not posted. I never should have grown up.

ignore those morons, if it wasnt on there it would be a "cool" shirt of a roman skull thingy, with it it makes it comical, funny and what most humurous shirts go for which is a giant cliche.... GREAT WORK!!!!!!!
pyropheliac said: monroe is deformed. her fibula is on the onside of her leg and the one on her right leg is seriously bowed.
strange.
that's true! i've made the bowed fibula to make a silhouete of a hot girl leg. I have a friend who's a doctor and he did the same appointments.
And there's so many other anatomic fails there because i'm a cartoonist, not a scientific or anatomic book artist.
How many anatomic fails can you point in a Tim Burton's character, per example?
To the people who like the side arts:
I have some of them already printed. they are from a brazilian brand i work. Hit me on flickr if you like to buy it.

So I'm a moron, huh? Congrats, keyboard commando, I'm terrified. No, truly. Someone trying to abuse me over the Internet... gosh, just frightening. The fact of the matter is it WOULD work without the words -- the artist has SAID AS MUCH -- not to mention if it was to have text, there are actually funnier lines that could be inserted there, anyway. I'm not going to sit here and rattle them off for someone else's gain -- but if anyone spends five minutes thinking about it, there are some rather funny one liners that would work much better than what's on there.
A word from the curator: This design was once side art! Your requests convinced us it should be a printed shirt :)
Tell us the background of this design. Punks are around since ancient times. I think they'll never die. Which art style would you most like to learn? Hyper realism, maybe. But a digital camera can do it faster than anybody. If you had a time machine, which era would you visit first? I would go to the past to see some dinosaurs fighting. I'm afraid to go to the future and find nothing. What goal do you most aspire towards? My main goal is keeping support myself through art untill i die. Be rich is my second option, heheh
If you could stop any t-shirt trend in its tracks, which would you end? What trend would you like to see started? I don't really know what's is on trend these days. I'm always looking for good jobs, not trends. But i love the cartoon style and would like too see it as a trend. Would you rather be famous or create something that becomes famous? The second option, for sure. Being a famous person must be boring and quite annoying. I always wear masks and use fake names in my music projects to keep being myself in case of fame, heheheh. If fame comes, it'll be to the character, not for me. Crocodile vs. piranhas: which would win the battle? Piranhas! Even the biggest beast will lose a war against an army. Describe the first shirt you ever designed. My first one was a big cliche. Che Guevara. i did it like a funny caricature on a red shirt. What has been your most inspiring art experience? I think it's living inside internet, social webs and art sites like teefury and many others around. People are expressing themselves sincerely everyday and sharing news about fresh art around the world. That's a brainstorm inspiring stuff. Any shout outs? I wanna thanks teefury users to have claimed this shirt a print commenting the side art of my last print! And the people who helped me with the sales. Thanks people! you're awesome!
