About the artist
A word from the curator:
What if Spaceman Spiff's adventures were inspired by a certain trilogy...
Tell us about this design.
Like most nerds my age, I was raised watching Star Wars and reading Calvin and Hobbes and the two sets of characters combined seemed to work perfectly together. Which begs the question, was Chewbacca just Han's stuffed toy/ imaginary friend?
How would you describe your style?
I grew up doing portraiture, caricatures and comic books and I guess my style is a combination of all those.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would you pick?
Generally, I'd love to collaborate with a sculptor or toymaker. I'd love to see my work translated into the tangible 3D world.
What historical figure do you most admire?
No one jumps to mind, but I guess Marlon Brando for popularising the tshirt in ,'A Streetcar named Desire'.
If you weren't designing shirts, what would you be doing?
I'd be designing tattoos or toys.
Do you prefer the zoo, a museum, or a library?
The zoo. Museums and libraries are great, but they're predictable. You never know what those crazy animals at the zoo will get up to, and I love animals as well.
Tacos vs. burgers: which would win the battle?
What is your favorite t-shirt color?
Red. It's a good colour to wear while eating the above mentioned. It hides salsa stains well.
Any shout outs?
James Hance- http://jameshance.com/ -Does fantastic pop culture mashups. Discovered him after someone pointed out that my Chewie and Han design was similar to one of his sketches (which was unintentional and coincidental on my part)
Billy Allison- http://www.blimation.com/ -a great fellow artist, animator and tee designer. Nice guy as well.
