Vader would be a buy. This print ...not for me. Its like a kids shirt from Walmart. The red and white stripes on the board like a plastic "go America " , the hippy free bird finger/bracelet. Its all very generic.
This is just my opinion on the design. Not the artist. His art seems very nice. This print just seems like a bad design for this crowd. But hey prove me wrong if you disagree and give This Guy some pancakes.
KyleMittskus said: The angle on the pinky is really awkward and unnatural.
Yeah. Don't know about you guys, but I can't get my hand to do anything near this without cutting some tendons. Not that I'd get this shirt anyway. Even if I was into surfing, it's just too cartoony and doesn't seem to have much of a point. I don't really understand the sidearts, but I like their style much better.

i totally agree with you, those Darth Vader or Ramones shirt are definitely awesome though
I except more from you and Teefury. Well, truth told, mostly from you. You have waaaaaaay more skills than this. Let me buy the fruits of them, yeah???
KyleMittskus said: The angle on the pinky is really awkward and unnatural.
agreed and why would the back of the hand be his front?? that looked odd to me as well.
Well the 3 center fingers curling up into his palm would be covering his face if his face was in the palm of the hand, hence putting the face on the back of the hand.
I dont think you can understand how much this speaks to me man. Born on an island, lived on the beach, raised on the board. Congratz on this shirt, and kudos on moving me :D
Ha! Be careful what you wish for, I suppose =P
Nice to know you do listen to us though =)
Have to say, not really a fan of this design. There is some nice detail in there, but I agree with what alot of people have been saying; the anatomy is kinda off, the pinky is way too big. And it's just really not my thing.
The zombie Joey Ramone woulda been totally up my alley though.
I love a lot of things about this shirt! The hand kind of initially strikes me as some kind of tooth (I guess because of the white) but that's okay. I adore the art of the wave, the background, and that adorable little "American Gentleman of the dog world".
KyleMittskus said: The angle on the pinky is really awkward and unnatural.

I'd say the back of the hand is facing fowared so the fingers look like hair (reminds me of cornrows). To have him facing the other way would have looked really weird.. this way it looks like he has a face, hair, and arms. I think it's totally tubular, just not for me :)
The Vader shirt is cool. This shaka surfer, however, is not something I can buy. By the way, International shipping rates are not worth any buying, sorry to say.

I agree - this is a little too Kiddie for me, but the Vader and Ramones side art is spectacular!
I love this!! Went to Hawaii last year and this was in every picture we took! Well, not this specific design but everyone used their hands \m/ for this sign in the pictures.
FreestyleFunk said: ugh...i dig the flowers and the color....but...
please teefury, don't stray too far from the norm. this may be a bit too far.
teefury? norm? i like when there is something completely different from the ususal. this shirt may not be the one for you, but i think because of the hundreds of different opinions on this site, not everything will be.
good to see you back here, Jonathan Bergeron! your work is fantastic, and your reoccuring dia de los muertos skulls, mustaches, and boston terriers makes me verrry happy (since those are three of my favorite things, oddly). though this is a popular, touristy design, i love your strange take on it.
I'm pretty sure the "Hang Loose" sign is with the thumb and pinky out while knuckles are facing downward, so the guy on the shirt is actually saying "Call me" not "Hang loose".
Why do I always feel like I am "dating" myself on this site? The way I learned to do this way back in like 1973 was the way it's on the tee: with the back of the hand facing outward. Sigh. I also learned it meant "shock 'em, dude!" but hey, just because I grew up on the beaches of SoCal does not mean I am an expert but I *was* there when it seemingly came over from Hawaii.
Or did I learn it from spending a month for 3 consecutive summers on Kauai, Maui and Oahu? Yes, I was spoiled back then so go ahead and flame me for it but my Dad worked very hard on the Smokey The Bear campaign and he & his team were responsible for making Honda cars popular in North America. I was even in the first Honda car print ads so yes, we got to travel to Hawaii three summers in a row for 4 weeks each. Oh, how I'd *love* to do that now.
So, sorry to side track but that is exactly how I remember it being, dude/dudette.
Do not get me wrong, I love your work, Bergeron. LOVE IT. Like more than is ok but I'm really not a fan of this. I don't mean to hate, but it's so blah compared to your other work! Let's get some smuuuuuurf skullhead moustache dudes on tees and I am all for that or some of your more crazy detailed inkwork, I'd go for that.

SOMEBODY HAS ALREADY BOUGHT SOMETHING HERE?
HOW THE SHIPPING TIMEFRAME HERE?
Hi ELCANCUN - Check our Help page for details :) Usually it takes up to a week for us to print and process, and the shipping time is determined by which option you select.
A lot of your work has a weird, creepy look to it that's very distinctive in the best possible way. Reminds me of Salvador Dali meets Hieronymus Bosch via Día de los Muertos. Very enjoyable.
You are a gallery artist, and I notice you do alot of shirts as well. I've done and still do a lot of band merch, mostly for heavier acts like Slayer, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold and Motorhead. I also worked on a lot of MMA merch in the last 2 years resulting in some of the UFC contenders like Cain Velasquez and Josh Koscheck wearing my designs as walk-in shirts.
Can you describe how you create your livelihood? Drawing and painting, that's what I do full time now. It's about 50/50 gallery art and Merch design. I am also about to start selling my own shirt designs directly too. I have a couple of shirts ready for production.
You have Boston Terriers in many of your paintings and designs, do you own one? I am on my 2nd Boston terrier now. Iggy is 1 1/2 and packed with energy. My 3 yr old son and him are quite a combo. Iggy's very small, only 14 lb., but he acts and hump like he's the king of the dog park. I had another one for 14 years called Huguette before getting Iggy. She was great, had a good life. They are awesome little dogs.
What did you do before you were a full time artist? What's the crappiest job you've had? I worked in a car rental place just before starting my company. Worked there for about 6 months. At some point my wife and I decided to buy a brand new car, got approved, picked up the car and 2 weeks later lost my job when the employer filed for bankruptcy. It was a blessing in disguise. I went on unemployment and registered for a business start up course financed by our "socialist" government. Ha ha. Been 6 years now and never looked back.
You recently had a gallery show. How was that experience? Any more in the future? I love showing in gallery, showing pieces that I've worked on for the last couple of months. As long as the gallery does their part of the work. Ha ha. I had 3 bigs shows back to back so for a year and a half I was pretty busy cranking out paintings so now I am taking a little break from it. Taking a step back, enjoying the summer, and trying to explore a little more to change things up.
How do you commiserate being an artist and having to make money at the same time? Do you ever have to take on projects you don't quite enjoy? Right now I consider myself pretty lucky since I don't really work on anything that I don't like. I don't always love the bands or clients but the projects are interesting anyway. People who ask me to design stuff come to see me because they are familiar with my style. Once in a while I get the weird requests, like "Can you imitate that artist style..." but I usually refuse those jobs.
Earl Gray? Coffee? Drink of choice? Coffee, Stout, Wine , Port, Cognac. Not necessarily in that order.
Do you own alot of shirts? What's your favorite? Not really. My latest is a Mishka/Rebel 8 collab with a Cyclop skull with eagle and snake. I love that shirt. I also love my Deathwish Records shirt that says "H.R & Henry & Ian & Glen".
Do you watch movies or TV? If not, why not, if yes, name your top three! We cut off cable at the beginning of summer but I am catching up on Mad Men at the moment. I am in the middle of season 3. Really like that show. Ahhh, Joan Holloway... I also love watching Yo Gabba Gabba or The spectacular spider man with my son.
Anything you want to talk about? Not really.
Any shout outs? The usual, the wife and kid, for being awesome.
