This is so great, Rob! I love how he's so detailed and then done in just the three colors (including the shirt coming through). The yellow and bright blue look great together.
Your other designs were before my TeeFury time, but I love Midnight Visitor and Windmills & Birdbaths. If TF ever remixes designs, I hope to see those again.
On a Rubik's cube, the white side of the cube is directly opposite the yellow side of the cube; therefore, the two colors never touch. However, this design has both yellow and white on one of the corners. Although most people wouldn't notice this, the design is incorrect.

Are you suggesting the wizard is using his magic to alter the form of the cube to secure his winning?

Nice! It is very sad, but I have known some wizards to use their powers to cheat.

The blue face and the green face are opposites as well, but they border each other in this design.
However, there may be a solution, perhaps Gandalf is not holding a 'Rubik's' brand cube. There are many different brands of rubik's cubes. There are even cubes that you put together yourself. Perhaps Gandalf just put his cube together with a abnormal color shceme. :)
Unless you are a stickler for details, the colors on the cube shouldn't keep you from buying the shirt.

The artist probably can't replicate the Rubik's cube without infringing upon copyrights.

err 6 colours? is that allowed :P
either way this design is amazing, instant purchase. I actually borrowed this guys zombie for my profile pic, so I must say thanks for that. Insta-buy!!!
This is cool, it is now owned by me, but I want the side art too (especially the zombie, because I love all things undead). Much, much cooler than the Dr. who shirt, so where are the pancakes?
This is such an amazing shirt. It is unique and you don't need to know any pop culture reference in order to enjoy and appreciate its value. While money might be tight right now, I absolutely love it and probably will buy it. Great work!

In addition, the older models of Rubik's cubes had no standard for coloration, so any color scheme was possible.
Your artwork is excellent... I love it all! Especially that Lord o' the Flies one... that's... it's fantastic. Really nice attention to detail on all of them. That's totally how I solve Rubik's cubes too.. but with slightly more magical sticker moving... >_>;;

And, as Monty Python says, also also wik... you can still get them in any colors or even have them as calendars! (I got the Japanese one >_>;) http://www.cubesmith.com/index.htm

See, this guy knows what he's talking about.
'Cept.. It includes a wizard. That does magic. I dunno if reality is the matter here.
The rubix cube is patented, not copyrighted. You can't copyright an invention. You copyright original works of art, words, logos, etc. That means they can't make and sell actual rubix cubes, but they can create art around them all they want.
Even if it was copyrighted as an image, this falls under the "fair use" clause which allows artists to use a copyrighted work in the process of creating a new and original work.
Also, in order to sue, the makers of the rubix cube would have to somehow demonstrate the presence of measurable damages - and in this case, that would be impossible to prove, but rather the opposite is more than likely true: This piece of art work is like free advertising, and rather than lose money or reputation, it enhances the reputation of the Rubix Cube makers and likely increases their income.
Therefore, practically everything is fair game in this business really. There aren't many legal concerns Teefury or these artists should have to worry about.
By the way, the name "Skywalker" is copyrighted and your use of it - even in your username - is a violation of Copyright. Not that George Lucas is going to go after you... but he could.

You are correct, sir. I thought I fixed the issue where I had two green centers, but obviously I still fudged up. I freaking own one too, so that's sad.
No way to fix it now, but I really do like the idea that not only is the wizard rotating the cube, but he is also pulling off the stickers. Nice save, spider villainy.
True story here. My sister is a year younger than me and when we were kids, we had one. I couldn't solve it, I was like a monkey with a hand grenade, no idea what I was doing. My sister has a go and she shows up later that day with it solved! My dad takes a look at it and says "Tammy, did you peel off the stickers and put them on the correct sides?" She was so busted. Good times.

hahaha. yeah i am kind of a nerd as far as rubik's cubes go. i learned how to solve one on youtube about a year ago and i have been solving them since. It takes a bit memorization, but after that, they are pretty easy.

Every dollar helps, christianasaur, but thank you... especially because I've been unemployed for 2 months now... but just started a new job, so it's all turning around, on the up & up, gravy on my mash potatoes ***knock on wood***
Next time you attempt solving a rubix cube, don't feel bad! They even give wizards a headache!
Artist location: Oceanside, CA
Tell us about this design.
It's a wizard tackling one of those impossible rubix cubes and he's reaching the breaking point of frustration, exerting all his powers and magical stuff with lightening bolts and zappy things. Oh, and his crystal necklace, like the ones you find at truck stops, that thing is about to pop.
Can you complete a rubix cube?
Nope.
You can have pretty diverse art techniques. What's your favorite style that you have?
Graphite sketchiness.
How do you go about choosing color schemes for a design?
Sometimes I usually have something in mind, like this design, I knew it would be on a dark base color. I then play with the color palette from there. It's easy and fun to adjust colors when you have them separated in different layers (Photoshop). I also pull reference on any color combos I see in magazines, ads, whatever. I also took a color theory class in 1997 at CCA with Jack Mendenhall. That helps.
