Scumbugg's first design at Teefury was Prairie Squid print on February 15, 2009.
This was then:
Tell us about yourself.
I live in Columbia,
Missouri (a slightly larger town in the middle of America) with my
girlfriend and a cat. During the day, I cook Thai food. At night, I run a
small startup etsy/myspace based clothing line in which I print
everything myself by hand, do printing and design work for bands, and
drink Stag.
I’d like to quit the day job. Like everyone else, I’d like to live comfortably doing the artwork that I love.
This is now:
Anything exciting happen since your last print?
I
was offered my dream job.
I was just starting to worry about what to do with my
life, and this perfect job basically fell in my lap. It’s really a dream
come true for me.
I moved to Denver and took co-ownership of a thirty year old union
printshop. Business has been good, despite the crappy economy, and it’s
been incredibly refreshing being my own boss. My co-owners and I are in
the process of acquiring a warehouse, so it seems life is about to get
even more amazing.
Although my workload now includes designing
and printing various paper products, I’m still getting a fair amount of
freelance work done. I got to work for Fright Rags and Earache Records a
lot this year, as well as a bunch of other great bands and clothing
labels.
Since design and printing is now my career rather than my
hobby, that’s opened up my nights and weekends for hanging out with
cats, Wii bowling, failed attempts at eating seven pound breakfast
burritos, and an absurd amount of Quantum Leap.
What's in the future?
Theorizing that one could
time travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett led an elite group
of scientists into the desert to develop a top-secret project known as
Quantum Leap. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Dr.
Beckett prematurely stepped into the project accelerator, and vanished.
He
awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and
facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with
his own time was maintained through brain-wave transmissions with Al,
the project observer, who appears in the form of a hologram, that only
Dr. Beckett can see and hear. Trapped in the past, Dr. Beckett finds
himself leaping from life to life, putting things right that once went
wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.
This is an alternate past:
What would the Matt of the Now tell the Matt of 10 years ago?
Chill, bro.
Any advice for artists just getting into the game?
Dive in head first. Give it your full attention. If you’re preoccupied
with a day job, or whatever, it will reflect in your art’s quality. Draw
everyday, even if you don’t have any clients and find an art community
you can get critique from. Both of these practices will keep you on top
of your game, and help you evolve and adapt.
