Hmm, I actually like your side art better. It seems that the design is too unoriginal. I suppose I like things that are sketched more than made in a program, they seem to flow better if done by hand on paper. But congrats on the print.

He did some time ago and I recall they were for sale on his site, but don't see them there right now (prolly sold out). I bought either an XL or an L but have never worn it.. if you're interested in buying it, shoot me an email (ducktree13@aol.com).

Klay is quality for sure, his Animal Gravity print was also a TeeFury shirt.. in fact I think it was what introduced me to the fury!! =D

I like the colors, but not feeling the horizontal lines extending across the body with the birds.. had it just been a piano going down the side, I would have already clicked "Add to Cart." Nice design, though!

i love the art designs that come up on teefury every once in a while. this one isn't a buy for me because it doesn't say or mean anything. it doesn't necessarily need to say or mean anything, but it definitely should if the design itself is a little lackluster.

The design is aneat, I'm just not sure about the way it actually lays on the shirt. I think this would be best as just a print :)

But I really do enjoy the orange sunset side art. Overall though, all of the artist's work is very nice.

Mike Klay (aka Powerslide Designs) is a Seattle-based artist who has created gigposters for the likes of Ladytron, Camera Obscura and Death Cab for Cutie. Previously, he was printed early in Teefury history with Animal Gravity, which you can view in our archives. It was one of the highest selling designs during that time. He's back with a clean simple design that sure to please old school Teefury members.

What a day in the life of Mike like?

6am wake up

I've heard that you've invented a product? Can you tell us a little
bit about it?

The Munkey! It's the first mobile device stand that duals as a hanger. I basically got tired of holding my iphone on the plane to watch a movie so I came up with this strap and stand combo that makes it much more comfortable to relax and watch a flick in the air. Works in the back seat of a car too! It was a year and a half in the making and I'm stoked it's finally a reality. All the info can be found at http://www.themunkey.com

If anyone googles Mike Klay, they can find a wealth of mentions about
your posters. Is that your main profession?

I'm a Graphic Designer by trade and have always loved music, been in numerous bands as well. It was just natural that the marriage of design and music would somehow come about. Enter the concert poster. Created my first one in 2003, then learned to screenprint and shortly after decided to give art prints a whirl and they've been the most popular.

How did you get into the art industry?

I failed Calculus as a Mechanical Engineer.

Any advice for aspiring artists?

Do what you want and don't listen to other people. Take some advice from the people that know more than you, but in the end, create something that YOU are happy with.

What's your art process like, from initial sketch to finished product?

75% Illustrator - 15% Photography - 5% Photoshop - 5% Pencil and paper
