Great art and good timing since you said Monkey Island inspired you with the release of the updated Monkey Island 2 this week. Not something I can see myself wearing, but I do like the art and I think the Red Riding Hood is great too. I'm definitely going to have to check out your portfolio later.
I am buying a T-shirt every week or 10 days. But the thing is I have so many tees that I don't apreciate the old ones any more.I really wear only the latest ones.
Like the Pirates, not too keen on the stomach... LOVE LOVE LOVE the Little Red, but probabaly wouldn't buy if it was a shirt, designs too big. But it would make an AWESOME poster :o)
queenmob said: Thanks for the kind words,. everyone. I think I will have to submit Little Red riding Hood. THough, it does have to many colorsfor print I think...
I would love this on a black tee. It would be a definite buy for me.
I loove this!
Especially because my tummy pirates have been plotting my demise for years. Now I can spread awareness of them and hopefully be able to form an army to combat them...
I mean... nice shirt, I hope I can scrape up some cash for it.
fivefootmayhem said: I love your style! The little red riding hood especially struck me. ^_^
Totally agree.
Love the Joy Ride on the side as well. And yes, I bookmarked this portfolio as well. I need to make a complete page of bookmarked artist porfolios. Woop! Woop!
As for the ninja pirate discussion, I want to post this discussion I had with friends on the nerdboard:
phredd wrote:Arrrrr!But... What do pirates eat for breakfast!?
Queenmob wrote: Ninjas.
phredd wrote: But, but what do ninjas eat then?
Queenmob wrote: YOu had to ask, hm?! YOU HAD TO ASK??!!!
They eat NERDS!
phredd wrote: But don't nerds eat pirates? How does that work?
Queenmob wrote: It's an endless circle.
great design.
not a buy though(nothing personal, i'm just not a brown shirt guy)
but i did have a question for the masses.
does anybody remember the artist who had the "Hood Shaggy" (as i would call it) sideart within the past week?
i would like to try and see if they had it printed on another site.
great job though on the design for this one, i think it was fantastically done.
I don't dig the stomach, but the pirates and the ship are very very sweet! :) I don't think our stomachs are that big! :P I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the side art, especially the second and third ones.
I would buy this just for the color scheme because it's flattering but I don't wanna field all the questions about why I bought a shirt that says there's a pirate in my stomach.
Hmm... I like the art style, but I'm not that keen on the concept. Usually, I like "weird," but this is the wrong kind of weird for me; I guess the joke is that your stomach is upset because there's a ship full of pirates in there, but it's not clear at a glance...
nice shirt, i love love love the pirates, but i wouldnt want to bring attention to my stomach, as this does haha.
but still, great work, your an amazing illustrator, i have thought about going in that direction before, and i am glad to see such a talented one on teefury!
love the idea and the way it's illustrated! and by the way; you're right, the pizzas at schillerplatz are great ;)
(i'm from graz, too. and lived some time in salzburg as well. but i definitely don't share your opinion about avocados.)
And can I just say, you, Anna-Maria Jung, are AWESOME! Born in the 80's, likes Monkey Island, did the art courses at uni I'm currently doing, more or less XD. Geek girls ftw!!

Hahaha! Just noticed that car (which kinda looks like a sandspeeder, now that I think of it) says "Tardis" on it!
totallypipe said: don't get the reference, but then again i'm not a gamer. cute shirt nonetheless!
This isn't really related to the game at all. The only common thing with this shirt and Monkey Island is pirates. And maybe ponytails.
Just to shout out a last, nerdy statement: Though I played the old gamed, this is more or less a reference to the new season - the epsidoe where Guybrush gets swallowed my a manatee, which has already swallowed a pirate crew and their ship.
Okay, image number 13 of 28 in the illustrations tab is titled "Poster for a Theatre Production." It's got a greek goddess in the upper right corner, an amazonian woman, a girl dressed like a lion, some lawyer looking lady, a guy dressed like one of the fellowship of the ring guys, and a guy smoking a hookah flanked by two lizard people. What the hell play was this??? I am far too intrigued. :)
Hehe, the play was called "Barbarian!", it was a Fantasy Hip Hopera written by Jason Ellis - the crew was mostly New York amateurs, I had the honor to create the poster and play 9 different extras in the play, including a singing Ninja and a poisionus lizard woman - oh, and the head of a two-headed monster.
information: http://figmenttheatre.com/
It was awesome! Very nerdy! Unfortunately it's over.
See pictures of it at my blog (via my website, there is a link to my blog, fotos should be in the May beef) Thanks for asking :-)
Well, first of all, pirates still rock (far more than vampires). Influenced by nerdy game culture (aka Monkey Island) I wanted to pay tribute. Also: 12 % of all stomach pain is caused by swashbuckling, saber-swinging pirates who try to get the hell out of there. Let’s just hope they chose the front exist. Next time, don't try to be cool and just let them take the booty.
Where are you located?
50% New York City, 50% Graz, Austria
Tell us about yourself:
I was born in my favorite year 1984; I always imagined being part of a bigger adventure. Due to the bad health plan for ninjas, pirates, time travelers or monster hunters I decided to become a comic artist and illustrator. I did my Master in Salzburg/Austria, specializing in Animation. I am currently doing my Master of Arts in Illustration in NYC. I am also a proud member of the nerd NYC community, which means that I spend my free time with RPGs, computer games, comics and quoting cartoons. In my work time I create graphic novels and illustrations for various clients and for fun.
How did you get your start in art?
Comics introduced me to narrative, visual storytelling. I always wanted to tell crazy, funny and exciting stories and I decided comics are the way to do it without a big budget. I was highly influenced by French comics and American Fantasy and Horror comics. For me, it really started with the publication of 20 pages noir thriller comic when I was 18 years old. In the same year, I met comic artist Darick Robertson who told me I was doing a great job. I guess that convinced me sticking to it.
What's your art process like, from initial sketch to finished product?
Sometimes I start off with a thumbnail sketch, sometimes from the sketch. From there, I create a clean, inked version. I scan it and color it on the computer. I work with a gazillion layers, it’s crazy. Coloring on the computer turned me into a control freak.
What would be your dream job?
I would like to be a traveling thief in a D&D like fantasy landscape, adventuring for profit and saving handsome and cute guys from monsters and occasionally saving the world in an epic battle. If that job doesn’t work, I would love to make shitload of money with graphic novels.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
One of the most important things for me was sticking to exactly the genre, style and way to work I loved. Stick to what you’re good at; don’t try to satisfy any commercial needs society might have. Tell the stories you would love to hear and create the pictures you would love to see. And one of the most important things nowadays is: Be social – communicate with other artists, share and make you known out there. An artist has to be at least 20% businesswoman or man nowadays.
Tell us about your favorite food.
I love yummy Austrian dark bread with butter and ham. Besides that I love the silky texture of Mozzarella, Pizza Hawaii with tons of pineapple (best one at Schillerhof, Graz, Austria) and Avocado on all variations. I could go on about food for years. I should stop now.
If you could own an exotic animal as a pet, what kind would you have, and what would you name it?
A cat-lizard hybrid (Frank Frazetta style) with a saddle, steam-punk iron wings, a telepathic link to my brain and loyalty until death! I would call it Ladidadi.
What are a few of your favorite websites?
Io9.com (nerdy nerd blog)
Oglaf.com (explicit fantasy web comic with lots of nudity)
