Tell us about this design:
You'd like that, wouldn't you?... Ok - I'll play your little 'game'... This piece was actually a direct response to a piece I had done for Hydro74's The Brass Tack apparel line (plug!). You know - the 'kids' these days like the skulls on their shirts. I assume it is something satanic in nature, or as a result of school budgetary cuts to the science curriculum, have no clue what a human skull is, and therefore are fascinated with them. Either way, I'm pretty sure I'm right, according to my research.
With the aforementioned insight, I decided to try to take that movement to the obvious next level before other designers realized it was happening, and/or acknowledged it. My answer to that was a decidedly landmark juxtaposition of a human skull with a mustache and lit cigarette on the body of an ostrich. As difficult as that sounds, that is EXACTLY what I did.
I, as well me, and myself, am still very confident this has made a tremendous impact on the 'skullparrelTM' industry as a whole. I have been quite humbled by how fellow artist have responded with such great respect to both myself, and this new trend. They won't even dare touch it. It's really quite something.
...So, after the enormous self-perceived success of that 'millennial- trendsetting-juggernautTM', I marked my new challenge - to take on a new, and self-assuredly explosive, genre. That of the 'Dignified Owl Man Hybrid with Pubic Hair Exposed' genre that I was pretty sure was just over the horizon.
So, with that as my challenge, and an iron will of determination, I set out to redefine the possibly impending movement. And as you can see, I did just that , like, times a MILLION! I took the foundation and added my own originality to it - a 'mustache' and a 'pipe'. BAM! Can't believe no one thought of this before!? WTF!?
And on a side note, did you know a baby owl is actually called an 'Owlette'? I @@@@ YOU NOT! HILARIOUS. I can't wait to see one at a zoo and call it out! (And did you also know, that if they get wet - they are referred to as a 'Moist Owlette' (*rimshot*)) BAM!
What's a day in the life of Jeremy like?
It's a little like this... and a LOT like this...
Do you own alot of shirts?
I do. I'm a half-tuck kind of guy myself. Mainly cause I like to let people know A) I've perhaps done my business already and B) if I did, I probably never stopped by the sink mirror to wash my hands.
If so, what's your favorite?
Favorites? Hrmmmm? Well I do have this one, *hahaa* - it's of Woody Woodpecker - you know the drunk bird from those walter lantz pornos? So, it has a picture of him looking all like him and all... and the text above him *hahaaa* says *chortle* 'Woody' *snort gurgle* 'Woodpecker' *HAHAAAA*! But, get this! The 'Woody' text is HUUUUGE!!! *haha!* Much larger than the 'Woodpecker' text... fricking high-larious - LOVE that shirt! *wipes tears away*
What is your favorite color?
Blue.
Zombies, ninjas, pirates, vikings.. who would win in a fight?
Um... if memory serves correct...Ninjas beat paper? Rock beats Vikings?....um... Zombies, eventually.
What wine goes best with...Brains?
All wines really - in moderation, of course. The map-kinase enzyme stimulates & regenerates neural cells...(walks over to closet and grabs the 3DBB. Begins to explain to Chumley he may benefit from intake of wine...)
Zombie Apocalypse breaks out tomorrow... Your weapon of choice?
Your mom!
Name the three most important phrases you need when you're talking to a zombie.
"Huuuurrrrrrrr." (what up!?) "Harrruuuuuurrrrrrr."(word up!) and "raaaaaruhuhuhhhrrrrrrr." (your mom!)
What inspires you?
Cartoons & videogames. Mostly the latter, but more so the prior... I think of my style as a bit schizophrenic depending on the intent – but ultimately as the result of an impatient-mongoloid-bastard-love-child of Ed Bennedict & Neal Adams (you know they’d do it if they were able). At least that seems to work in my mind…
If you could go only to one restaurant for the next five years, which would it be?
That is the TOUGHEST question anyone has ever asked me. But it's an easy answer: Max & Ermas. EFFING SQUARE CHEESES DEEP FRIED ON STICKS, BITCHES! BOOYAH!
Have you ever had to get stitches? Any battle scars?
Yes & oh hell yes. True story, my right hand was ripped open by a piece of car trim as I passed by a car in a vertical fashion as I was thrrown to the ground. I was like 13. On the palm of my hand, right by the thumb and into the webbing. You could see tendons - very gross. Seriously screwed my thumbs mobility. Still can't palm a basketball with that hand to this day. All scarred up.
What would the you of now, tell the you of 10 years ago?
Probably something like 'Don't SHOOT! It's me! I mean, YOU! I mean US! I'm me/you from the future! 10 Years in the future to be exact! In 10 years you will need to answer some questions for a website that will be selling a design you did of an Owl/Man with Pubic hair expo- DON'T SHOO - ach...*gurgle* *gurgle* everything going black *gurgle* ...rosebud'...
Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years with your art career or other?
I'd like to see myself swimming in one of my MANY Scrooge McDuck-style money vaults, whilst Gizmoduck keeps out an eye for those nefarious Beagle Boys... But, I would also accept being able to simply support my family & pay my bills while drawing weird shit full time... an ounce of respect would be ICING on the effing cake! WHo's with me!? ...no one? I see...
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Don't do it- you can't compete. Leave it to us grown-ups - ok? Go save whales and stuff - I mean, the planet is going to die if you don't do something more meaningful with your life! Right?... but if you really HAVE to do this... 1)do what you love 2)work hard 3)be patient 4) expect to FAIL if you go up against us!
MAC or PC?
PC - I'm actually a former Mac guy. Why the switch? Wasn't geeky enough - that and I'm cheap. But by doing so I could save and afford get a Wacom Cintiq ;) So, that's something - right!? -I do own an iphone! We still cool!?
Any shout outs?
Certainly. My parents for never telling me how wasted my God-given talent is and supporting me through college.
Hydro74 for his charity work in including my piece in the Brass Tack Apparel line (plug #2). My wife for supporting my artistically self-indulgent tendencies. And lastly, Jimiyo for having to fill a date on a calendar and having more important things to do than seek out a respectable piece/and/or/artist. Peace out. Word to your mothers.
Lastly, can you really touch your tongue to your nose?
I can, and I'm doing it right now.
