holy cheeeeeseballs this is amazing. i know alot of Tbirds that will be very excited to come to the fury today. the detail is def. amazing and very well done, and seriously, id love this as a tee OR a print. amazing, i just dont know what else to say.
pretty ambitious design for a shirt. i would like to see how this is silkscreened but will have to sleep on it. twelve dollahs is twelve dollahs. any of the sidebar designs i would instantly buy.
Dylan without whatever that is to the right of his face would work for me, but I have to say, looking at this artwork makes my skin crawl for some strange reason? I certainly could not, and would not, wear it.
Dayum, that side art is sweet! This shirt would really sell up here at Bethel Woods, especially in August. I think I'll buy one and wear it to a concert there this summer.
Very cool and detailed... Love Bob Dylan but dont understand why everything is exploding outt the back of his head... I dig the drip though(dont know why). I see your art being more of a print though rather than a t-shirt.
ehh nice artwork but I'm passing on this one as its not something i'd ever wear
but love the side artwork: 1st (...whatever it is it looks awesome), 2nd (the skull would be an instant buy for me), 4th (something about the radio pulls me in...i'd definitely pick it up as well)
love dylan, not crazy about this design. very well-done, no doubt, but seems like a somewhat random mash-up of design ideas, to me. props to Iain, still; the last 3 on side art are all seriously great.
It looks odd.. like it doesn't quite fit. It doesn't really fit. The transition is too abrupt from realistic portrait to the ... design/s. But I will probably buy it because I'm into Dylan and weird designs.
So, I wikied Bob Dylan, an anti war musician among other things "Blowin' In The Wind", and "The Times They Are a-Changin"
I don't feel the vibe of the pattern fitting in with his sort of western oriented music, feels too much like Koi fish and a general eastern vibe, although I think the sea-weedish flowing grasses kind of work for abstract kind of flowing grass and vine.
But then again, I don't listen to Bob Dylan. Everything's done well, artistically, but the oriental themes to his "soul" don't seem to do justice to his body of work, from the wiki, it seems he explored a lot of styles of music, but they're all really western, or go into European/American roots.
since when was a "band shirt" t bird material? i get that bob dylan isnt "popular" or anything, but still, its more pop culture than random art i think.
either way, not for me, but i think the "doodle style" stuff is pretty cool
not a big dylan fan, but my friend from jersey is so i have to hook him up, i've never liked all of the side art from an artist before, hope to see more of it
Bob Dylan is still alive. Why is he always rendered as his younger self? A t-shirt with wrinkly, Christmas album singing, Bob Dylan wouldn't sell? Aw man I guess I'll just have to settle for young, jewish, and attractive Bob Dylan with an explosion of awesome coming out the back of his head.
Buy.
Love the design, but I'm not that into Dylan, and wouldn't feel right wearing this one. However, I'd like to see more Iain Macarthur in the very near future :)
Very nice piece. If I were a Dylan fan, I'm sure I'd be all over this. I love how the "expression" oozing out of his face flows so well together, even the interrupted parts with the jagged edges don't interrupt overly much. The one thing that really bothers me is that white half circle--it keeps drawing my eyes back in and really detracts from the rest of the piece.
Also, on the side art, that skull is amazing. I have never been one to wear skulls. They're fine on other people, but not for me (even though I have been more into darker clothing styles for the past 10 or so years), but your skull is really gorgeous. I would be proud to wear that.
I like this shirt. I love the detail! I don't know too much of Bob Dylan's stuff but from what I've heard it's pretty good. I like that the design is coming from his head. :)
Let me start by saying that your render of Zimmy is well crafted. I do have to say though that from this angle, he looks a bit like young Val Kilmer (not your fault, and perhaps its my own warped perception of reality). I have to agree though that your work deserves a better canvas; I just don’t think a tee is going to do it justice. Perhaps a Strathmore hemp or even a Tiziano paper and some charcoal? If that’s too tedious, you could even use just an indigo pen. I feel that the intricate patterns will be lost on cotton. And Mr. Dylan’s soul? I was thinking it represented more his thoughts (you know, complex like ‘Blood on the Tracks’), given the intense nature of his stare. Maybe the right-sided drip is a reference to BotT? Great work. Good luck to you.
I wouldn't wear any of you art as a tee although it's all freakin' awesome. Thanks Teefury for putting up some real art though, not enough of it I think.
I got the chance see him twice last summer (he was on tour w/ willie nelson & john mellencamp) & made it to the front of the stage @ the first show. the man is a legend... gotta get this.
btw if you're a dylan fan, "I'm Not There" is a must see film.
Kudos here for what is some incredibly talented artwork. Alas, I'm no Bob Dylan fan - so I'm going to pass this time. Nevertheless, I couldn't let this pass without doffing my cap at the skills ;)
first of all, its not Travolta, its Bob Dylan, folks! :]
silly friends, it looks just like him.
this is an extremely wonderful piece, i cannot believe how intricate and beautiful this is. your work is incredible, Iain, your mind is grand.
as for if this matches his type of music, i feel as if this is more about his crazy mind, which none of us have seen. Though we have seen him, heard him, and possibly learned much about him, we don't know what is going on in there, and i sure hope my mind looks like this, because this is what an artist's mind SHOULD look like. Whether you paint, sing and dance, write, or act, this is something anyone would be proud of going on in their craniums.
no idea what a tbird is but I like the skull on the sideart. Artist has a wonderful talent and I enjoy the shading and intercate details, very beautiful.

Bob explored many things at different points of his journey. Try checking out the albums "Bringing it all Back Home" and "Highway 61" probably the albums most fitting to this design. The Lyrics and flow of those two albums is Mind Blowing.

Great movie :) Cate Blanchett was my favorite Dylan of the bunch. She portrayal seemed so on point.

It's really good design i love the whole concept but I agree with it looking like John Travolta, I think its the eyes when i compare it to this:
http://glitterfromdross.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/bob-dylan.jpg
The only reason I haven't bought this yet is I'm not sure how many to get. Definite buy for me, I love Dylan and need a good Dylan shirt. I don't think it looks exactly like him, but the design is good enough that you can tell it's him right away.
Awesome job, and great side art! Love the last one, would definitely buy that as well.
The right half of the pic made me think of the Beatles' Revolver cover. I'm not a big Dylan fan, so I probably won't get this, but the amount of detailing is incredible.
Super detailed design, great job. All your other work is great too. The comment about him always being depicted young was funny. Lots of Dylan hate going on around here btw. Kinda suprising, kinda sad

I completely agree with this...but will still be buying it nonetheless. I don't have any Dylan shirts.
I can't even express how much I love Dylan!!! This is totally awesome and I think I must purchase it! But two shirts in 4 days... what to do, what to do... I will be back! Awesome side art too!!
I have to not get a shirt every day and today it's going to have to be a pass. Though I love Dylan - had a dog named after him in 1969 - I have to pass. Need to pay other bills.
Now, if that skull every becomes available, screw the bills!!!
This is AMAZING art in a most creative and imaginative form. However it's presented... tee shirt or on canvas...it needs to be seen because this artist needs to be marketed and his talent shared with the world.
TrudyBird said: This is AMAZING art in a most creative and imaginative form. However it's presented... tee shirt or on canvas...it needs to be seen because this artist needs to be marketed and his talent shared with the world.
Boring. The stuff coming out of his head looks like every other explosion of shapes and patterns on every indie design I've ever seen. The side art's better.
I think its a great shirt for someone who likes Dylan, and if you can find where the eastern vibe fits his character great, it also has some nice style to it in total, I like the work put into it but I'm not buying.
Does anyone know if it's possible to get the "We all live in a yellow light cycle" tee from yesterday?? My friend lovedddd it and I can't find it anywhere else..
Love the design today! =]
I just hit that unnecessarily large button. One for me, one for my dad. I still don't think it looks excactly like him but I think most people will be able to tell who it is right away.
I love the way his hair is drawn, wish I was able to draw like that!
PS.: I'd love to see more from Iain MacArthur on TeeFury. Tbird, please print that boombox!
Yeah....I could tell it's supposed to be Bob Dylan but honestly it looks more like VAL KILMER to me. Nonetheless, what a great artist you are showcasing here, TBird. That skull is great. Please print that! So good to see some wonderful talent on display.
I think it's a lovely design that captures Dylan's essence but, in reality, looks more like a mash-up of John Travolta and Val Kilmer. There was an earlier Dylan shirt offered on TeeFury that was unmistakable. Unfortunately, I had not yet discovered the site, when it was offered.
I wish one of TeeFury's contributing artists would do realistic designs of the actors Lon Chaney, Sr. (sans makeup) and Christopher Walken. Especially now that he's older, Walken's face has a great deal of character. He looks remarkable in A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE, currently on Broadway.
SURFer said: It's more like a blend of Bob Dylan and Arlo Guthrie. But, when young, there was a resemblance there between the two.

Artist Iain Macarthur is a master of smooth rendering and intricate, rich doodles. What can I say, I'm a fan!!
Tell us what an average day in the life of Iain is like:
my day to day life consists on Travelling about with my sketchbook which i do allot, drinking tea, draw, watching allot of movies, draw, sleep.
Tell us about the Design:
I decided to do a portrait of bob dylan, i thought id do something a bit different with the design so i introduced detailed patterns coming out of his face. it could represent the beauty of expression within his soul exploding out. or something else.
How would you describe your art style?
you could consider my style as surreal and a intricate labyrinth of stuff as i love drawing really detailed, always like to improvise in my pattern work introducing mindbuggling shapes into my portraits or character designs.
How did you get into art?
got into art at an when i was little, watching cartoons like 'ahhh real monsters!' n 'ren and simpy' hency why some of my work is pritty bizzare. wat got me into it passionly is going to art museums in school trips when i was little, always wanted to be an artist :P.
Who was you first major influence, and who is it now?
alot of artists inspire me but the an artist called max ernst was my biggest influence, he specializes in surreal painting, and his work just blew me away. his paintings looked like they have been done in a dream world. but now i get inspired from an artist called bruno 9li whos work is incredible using patterns and nature in his pieces
