I really think this shirt has potential, but feel the whole Illuminati thing could've been taken a little further, example: Stick a golden apple as one of the blocks being pulled or something, add a bit more universal surrealism to the lower half of the shirt... A busy yet meaningful design. Some will look at it, not think much of it while others can see the meaning that this Tee can bring. The art is great and the entire image is peppered with references. You nailed it dude. Here's the deal, people. Any kick-ass artwork that is meaningful to the wearer makes a worthwhile t-shirt. Period. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you think t-shirt artwork has to conform to any specific criteria such as being able to be figured out within 2 seconds by some passerby, well, you're dead wrong. Every t-shirt doesn't have to be some overly simplistic campy joke for everyone to get, or an inside joke for for some other target audience. There's nothing wrong with complexity. The devil is in the details, and I love details.

This artwork kicks ass. Therefore, this shirt kicks ass. M-kay?

Thank You, twilshire, for saying this. I also find it really annoying and verging on disrespectful too. It's THEIR idea, not yours. I never recall TeeFury nor the artist asking for critiques. Want to make it different/better? Design one yourself but then don't be all upset when some unknown person on the site tells you how you could have made it better for their particular taste.

Would you have told Salvador Dali how to make his paintings better? Jackson Pollock? How about asking Imogen Cunningham to use colour film instead? It's not your place. So why do you feel it's perfectly fine to do it here? They are artists. They have a vision on how they want it to look. Their idea = their work. I'm not an artist at all but I know damned well it's rude to just tell someone else how to "make their art better for me".

I actually liked the design a lot more before reading the description and learning it's actually a startlingly ignorant allegory of the economy. I love simple or complex design. A more complex design usually sparks conversation as well, where a simple, easy to understand tee usually gets looked and the people walk away thinking "neat shirt". I appreciate both.

Hey TeeFurky, is your new black plastic bag recyclable? If so, could you please have them print the recycling number on it, and if not, could you please switch to a recyclable bag? I know it seems silly for someone who buys t-shirts made of cotton, which is a very water-intensive and extremely pesticide-intensive crop, along with the toxicity of dyes (entire rivers in India are completely toxic as a result of industrial fabric dyes), etc., but while we're re-arranging deckchairs on the Titanic, we might as well do whatever we can muster our pathetic selves to do to slow our increasingly deleterious impacts on Earth as well as our own inevitable demise. Thanks.

I agree that a t-shirt design need not be "to the point" or "simple". I LOVE that there's a lot to look at and a lot to think about! The 'money' concept is instantly recognizable in the great creepy creature design. Nice work.

This is my first TeeFury purchase! Artist Travis Pitts creates an aesthetically attractive, yet poignant work focusing on the sometimes frustrating side of the hierarchal workforce.

Tell us about this design

after losing my job and being in a financial crunch, I really began to resent our economic system more than ever, and think of it as a shapless, Lovecraftian monster both created and worshiped by men in the upper ranks of society. That's how the illustration began, making a creature based off of elements mutated from the dollar bill. On the pyramid are the three classes of socio-economic structure. At the bottom, the workers and slaves whose unappreciated work supports the entire structure. A little higher up are the middle class- the artists and creators. While they get to use their talents, it's often the projects and designs of those above them - artists generally have to work for someone, rarely getting to do their own thing. Finally at the top are the businessmen, the traders of invisible credits backed up by nothing, inflated to keep them at the top of the pyramid and keep everyone else below.

Name a few of your favorite things.

Small wooden boxes and drawers. (and fitting things in them) Colored glass. Deer moss. Robots. Monsters. Ray guns.

How did you get into art?

Born into it. I can't remember not drawing or building things.

What would be your dream job?

Even more than being a professional illustrator, creating and selling the things i come up with, I think I would really enjoy having my own gallery/junk store.

Do you have any interesting hobbies or tales of intrigue? Do tell!

Collecting odd bits of junk that I make into new and unrecognizable things. I'm embarrassed yet proud to admit that I usually lay on the floor like a kid when I draw by hand.
