Smokey the Lost Bear
About the artistArt curated by
A word from the curator:
The appearence of the polar bear was my favorite moment in the early episodes of Lost- it was so perfectly absurd and mysterious that it set the tone for the entire series. I'm loving this tribute to that moment and the dangers of the island!
Tell us the background of this design
Well I’m a huge LOST fan so it’s only natural that I’d create a design to honor my favorite show. Smoke the Bear like most of my ideas just hit me one day while sitting at my work station…I thought it would be awesome to dress this well know character as an “other” and add a few references to one of the coolest events so far, the Dharma purge. (*cough* shovel *cough*)
PS - I know it’s not a question but if you had to ask me what I’m most looking forward to in season 6 it would be the Richard Frickin’ Alpert episode! Somebody needs to explain to me how Luis from the sitcom Suddenly Susan became an immortal(?) island dweller…seriously!!
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
Just fell into it really…went spelunking around them there interwebs, came across a competition site and the rest as they say is Hillary.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Have talent…I hear it helps. You don’t need to be a Jimiyo or a Collision Theory just as long as you don’t draw like a blind mule with a crayon wedged between its hooves.
If you’re new to a site stick to critiques before submitting…and LISTEN to what the successful designers have to say about your work even if it’s not what you want to hear.
Do not spam! Do not spam! Do not spam!...got that? One mo time! DON’T SPAAAAAAM!!!!
Study the chosen designs to get a feel for the style of the site …don’t waste your time designing for the wrong audience.
Submit QUALITY designs as often as you can!
Send Fruit Baskets and money to all the curators (how the heck do you think I got Tired of The Tiger Face got printed?) lol
What would be your dream job?
I really want to travel the world so to be a globetrotting, laptop carrying, adventure having illustrator would be heaven for me!
What are your feelings on holidays?
[F word] YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can wake up at 3pm tomorrow!! *head bangs*
Do you prefer land, sea, or sky?
Ah the old “Centurions” question…lol
I’d be Ace Mc Cloud, I’m definitely a sky guy!
If I were a bird I’d soar above the clouds, fly through the aurora borealis and strategically perch on tree branches so I could poop on people’s heads
Posters vs. t-shirts: which would win the battle?
Tees, only because I own more than I do posters.
Fun fact: I have a smexy Angelina Jolie poster…it gives me comfort on those lonely nights.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
“Rescue” by Chokelle…one of my first tee purchases and I managed to get the original black color. It’s just a simple, powerful design and I can’t even count the number of compliments I’ve received for it…money well spent!
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Cartoons! Thunder cats was one of my favorite shows!
Had the biggest crush on Cheetara…she was one fly cat lady.
Always hated Snarf though…twit!
What are a few of your favorite websites?
Gmail –always on it talkin’ to muh clients
The Awesomer – great place to find out about the latest cool…well…anything
Compete-tee-tion – always fun reading the tee reviews each week
FFFFound – really getting into this site…I’d sure be swell if I could get an invitation, I SAID IT’D SURE BE SWELL IF I COULD GET AN INVITATION!
