About the artist
Loulou & Tummie
A word from the curator:
I love the clean, fun and futuristic vibe of this design- it's like a robot dance party!
Tell us the background of this design.
It actually started off as a banner for Loulou's music blog (http://stereofound.wordpress.com.) Looking at it we figured it might do well on a tee and we like to draw machines and cables and love music and records and synths and all that jazz so we created a tee design with it.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
We're illustrators who live and work together in a small city in the land of the Dutch. We try to make a living out of robots and cute stuff.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
We both have... err... ha, you almost got us there!
Name a few of your favorite things.
Bleeps, pink and brown, heavy metal, Bowser (our dog), internet, sauerkraut casserole, big cities.
What are your feelings about dessert?
Although we practically make a living out of drawing desserts and cakes, Tummie doesn't eat desserts. Seriously, she doesn't like it! Loulou on the other hand is a big dessert fan, he thinks we should have desserts after breakfast and lunch too. Heck, he loves a dessert after chips, tea or cola.
Would you rather write a screenplay, direct a movie, or act in it?
We're camera shy and are terrible with words, so, we're afraid there's not much more left than directing that friggin movie.
Elves vs. Elvis: which would win the battle?
We don't believe in elves... and besides, we bet those pointy ears can't handle rock 'n roll.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
Tummie has a white shirt with a big, pink, dripping, blobby 'B' on it by a small Taiwan brand named Betelnut. We traded it with a designer at the Taiwan Toy Fair last year, which was a blast. So, it's a cool tee with good memories!
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
Oeh, tough one. It's probably gaming, or, reading, no, gaming! We were once seriously addicted to Animal Crossing on the gamecube :)
What inspires your work?
A lot of things! Old books and posters, decorations and illustrations from the middle ages to infographics from the seventies. Internet is a big inspiration source, we spend a lot of time there :) Looking at great work by nice artists on websites like Flickr and Behance brings a lot of inspiration as well. Besides that, we also love strolling around cities, collect all sorts of toys and second hand retro stuff, records, old photo’s and such. So that probably inspires us us well.
Any shout outs?
Yes, we'd like to shout out to ourselves. :) Together with Bubu co. we launched a plush-toy series called The Tummiefriends and you can have a looksee here: http://www.thetummiefriends.com
And we want to say hi to Chi-bo toys! We love his toys, he's a great guy and one of the most talented artists we know: http://www.chiboworld.com/contact.html
