I don't understand. I don't see why you'd have to explain anything. It says "The Forgotten Turtle" and features a never seen before meek little anthropomorphic turtle on it... that's the joke, haha. The name is just icing, it's not like Sandro Botticelli is a household name, I think you'd actually have to explain more if it DID have the name, haha. "Why Botticelli? Who is that? Why not Picaso or Rembrandt or something?"
Hey, worst case scenario you might have a conversation about TMNT or italian painters because of the shirt :)

I thought it was humorous, but there's one little problem. I managed a movie theater in the late 80's early 90's, and we opened the TMNT movie. During the opening showing of the movie, the TMNT video game was delivered to our theater. We had both for the entire run of the movie. I'm afraid there's no way I will be wearing anything turtles related.

Besides, I liked the comics version of them before it got tamed down for television.

    Thestray:

I love your interview and how you seem to be one of 2 or 3 artists that actually mingle with the members when your designs get printed. I think art ought to be discussed, not just consumed. And even though I've bought a few of your shirts in the past, I will have to pass on this one because, despite the fact that I like the concept, I try to stay away from "funny" shirts. I've noticed that when the joke gets old with me I stop wearing it. But, had I not had this revelation yet, I probably would've gotten it for myself. I considered getting it from my boyfriend since he likes TMNT, but decided against it because he's not educated in art and "wouldn't get it" as others here claim. He might be a bit worse than the rest though because, before he met me, he had no idea ANY of the turtles were named after artists. How weird is that?!? Anyway, I definitely wanna see more art shirts from you! A billion is a good goal, can't wait to see what you come up with. 8D

No sir, I don't like it. Not that it's bad per se, I'm just not interested in anything with TMNT as the subject matter. The art around the face works, but the rest of the turtle looks like he's made out of glued together asparagus.

Hallucinogenic said: The art around the face works, but the rest of the turtle looks like he's made out of glued together asparagus.

Agreed. A good concept and one I have seen done a few times - but better than this. The details (and any semblance of shading?) on the turtle are, well, lacking at best. Could use a rework, in my opinion.
  • banzaaiiisaid 117 weeks ago

i think the slightly darker and better shaded version with the brown elbow and knee pads on your blog looks a bit better, but maybe it wouldnt have printed as nicely, i dont know enough about shirt printing.

    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IQzBYo4Bj6I/Szb8vCRjWmI/AAAAAAAAAGk/6tqg9lAYn4o/s1600-h/botticelli.jpg
