Ehhhh. Not my cup of tea. I loved Avatar but I am not a fan of the shirt. I get that it's supposed to be like making a Mii, but an Avatar shirt could've been far more epic and not a play on the concept of an avatar :(

Love it. And it's just about as good as the movie was too.
  • jakewalczaksaid 108 weeks ago

This is sort of what I expected the movie to be about. Well my first thought was a Avatar: The Last Airbender movie... This is a nice design. Decent design, but needs more umph. It's very creative and unique... but looks just thrown together- I recommend more time being put into the design.

The cars are clever and well executed but since I'm not a car person, I wouldn't wear it. The bears and the king dude designs are most excellent. I would definitely wear either of those. You've got some rockin' skills, Mr. Lefcourt.

The chosen design, however, is not for me and I can't help but be disappointed after viewing the side art. Cute idea, though.

    To whom it may concern,
I've become increasingly disappointed with the direction teefury has been going over the past few months. Everyday I come here to look at the shirt and everyday it seems like I'm presented with another pop-culture reference or a childish pun (Wiener dog/hot dog shirt...c'mon). This site used to have shirts that were well-thought out and artistic.

This is no way directed at the artists there's usually at least one side art design that I would buy in a heartbeat (Such as the falling king today), but shirts of that caliber are never for sale here.

That being said I will go back to silently checking this site every morning expecting quiet disappointment but hoping for the rare occurrence that I will be amazed and drop 11 bucks on a piece of art I can wear.

Yeah...no offense to the artist, because I truly admire your talent (of which is obvious due to the especially wonderful sidebar art), but this shirt is very, well...bad.

It seems like it was just thrown together in a hurry to make one of the first Avatar designs available. I adored the movie and would have loved to have seen a shirt printed with a beautiful piece of Avatar-inspired art versus this bad attempt at a pop culture joke. :(

  • disgruntledchaosaid 108 weeks ago

I'm not saying the art quality is bad. The quality of this work is great, it's just the subject matter, and I'm posting this comment now after so many shirts of this ilk.

Teefury, delete this if you want, but the art you picked for the tee just doesn't make a good shirt. It makes a good picture, but not a shirt. A shirt is something that can be looked at more than once without becoming uninteresting, such as the car design on the side. I buy these tees as something to wear because it looks cool (like my Audioheart shirt, that was on here about a year ago, but someone stole that while it was drying out at the water park. D: I was heartbroken. but at least that means someone thought it was a cool enough shirt to steal it. :\)

Most of the stuff Teefury has been printing are on par with the quality and style of a picture on the internet that one sees, chuckles at, then just tunes out whenever they see it posted again elsewhere. The idea and picture don't make you feel it warrants a second look because everything about the picture is right there in front of you. Teefury always frustrates me with how they leave the better (and i risk deletion by saying actual) designs in the side column, and the entire time I've been on this site I've always seen quite a few people who like the side art of culture shirts like these.

Wall of text/tl;dr: I want a shirt I can wear for looks, such as Audioheart, Tatty Bogie & the Corbies(sp?) and a select other few that have aesthetic merit instead of a well drawn shirt that each of my friends will get one small chuckle out of, then forget afterwards. Teefury, please print something a bit different once in a while?

I agree as well. I come here every day looking for a reason to give teefury my money.

I come here every day looking for an excuse to give teefury my money. Your shirts are high quality, with great printing at an amazing price. But recently most of the shirts seem to be relying on some tired novelty (or a novelty that will get tired real fast) instead of having a great and well thought out design.

I am not against pop-culture references, I just want the pop-culture references to be well thought out and illustrated. The Stooge shirt from the other day was awesome and I bought it. It wasn't a forced pop culture reference (Avatars on the Wii are called "Mii" for instance), and it was well illustrated. On all points a WIN (aside from the 'til' till discussions it spawned).

This shirt.. not so much. I mean, sure Wii Mii's are pretty simple but they are much better rendered than depicted on this shirt. If you are going to go so far as to show part of the Wii controller you might as well go all in with your illustration and capture the Wii style (full body Avatar Mii? Just sayin'). The artist has a lot of talent as evidenced by the artwork on the side. I would be happy to wear ANY of the side-art shirts, but again the teefury shirt of the day just feels poorly thought out and executed.

Of all the things to submit to TeeFury, why did the artist choose this?
It actually DOES feel like shert.wute beginner stuff.

Why the hell was my comment deleted? I just want to know why the side art is always so much better than the t-shirt.

Today is a perfect example, look at the quality of that amazing side art, and then look at the amateur t-shirt that a 5 year old could have put together in MS paint.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the artist, your side art has proven you have real skills and can make some beautiful pieces. But seriously you want this 5 minute amateur piece to be on a t-shirt?

I'm sure you guys will be quick to delete this comment as well.

Artists submit what they choose to TeeFury in hopes to be printed.
This artist may not have even submitted any of the art on the side.
The artist chooses what is given to the curators to choose from.
The artist may have something else in mind for the art you see on the
    side.
Plus, you saying that the side art is always better... that's just your opinion. I like anchovies. You may not. That doesn't mean "Anchovies Ruin Pizza" for everyone.

If you're not trying to be disrespectful, then why are you saying "this 5 minute amateur piece" and "a 5 y ear old could have put together in MS paint."
Pretty disrespectful if you ask me.

That sideart too... wow. I'm glad it's not for sale because I'd be sad I couldn't buy those either. :(

Again, I do trade cupcakes for tees. Name your flavor!

ok, I REALLY want the bears shirt. That's a very well thought out design and I LOVE bears :)
As for the Avatar design, I LOVED the movie... but at first I was totally confused and wondered by the design overall seemed to be super-simple. Then as I continued to read comments, I realized the design was based on making a "Mii" on the "Wii" gaming system. I don't even own a Wii, so that's why I didn't get the reference at first.

As stated by many others on here, I do wish that teefury would get back to "art" tees and maybe just throw a pop culture design in every ONCE in awhile (not ALL THE TIME).

But, I DO hope to see the bear design on a shirt. I'm really rooting for that design. I'm an animal lover and an environmental enthusiast, so I really think it would look great on a shirt! :)

    cheers :D

As far as side art sometimes being more desirable, and questioning why an artist submitted one design over the other, you have to remember that not all of these are submitted by the artist. sometimes the artist is approached by a curator. I've had two printed, and have submitted none.

So...what was I saying? Oh yeah, cute shirt, beautiful side art. Mucho talento!

I always get so confused when the side art is what more people want than the shirt actually being printed, and I thought Tee Fury was picking the design instead of the artist.

    Agree...well said, brother!

    Just to play devil's advocate:

Maybe the reason the artist chose this design to submit instead of some of his/her other work is because Teefury has made a habit of selling culture-related material in the recent past, and so in an effort to be chosen (and thus get the publicity that goes along with that), he/she chose something that would fit in with the trend Teefury has set forth the past few months.

Had this been the same Teefury of a year or so ago, maybe he/she would have chosen differently...

I, too, love the side art and wish he/she would have submitted one of his/her more artistic/aesthetically pleasing endeavors...anyone know where I might find any of them printed on a shirt?

Today's shirt totally made me giggle. I dig the concept, but something about the execution is lacking. I think it is the flatness of it. Avatars these days have some shading to give it a 3D appearance. I think I would have liked it more if it had been more consistent with what current avatar creators look like.

    LOVE the side art!
  • personsaid 108 weeks ago

I think the people complaining about people complaining need to realize that this "complaining" is mostly meant to be constructive criticism. I think if we actually took a tally, more comments would go toward wanting at least one of the side art pieces compared to what is actually being sold. In fact, I'm going to count:

    Avatar: 26
    Bears: 30
    King: 10
    Cars: 33

But the thing i'm wondering is why the curators and people at teefury have been just picking pop culture references for the past 2 months with absolutely nothing that's just a design by itself. I don't know what their thought process is when picking them out, but if you choose it because it made you giggle at the time you need to think twice. The site can't be THAT starved for submissions that it has to shirt.woot it up. Hell, shirt.woot has had some good artistic derbies while teefury has been on it's little culture streak.
