I like this one, but I wouldn't buy it.
Funny how I always seem to like one of the ones on the side, but never any of the ones that actually get picked.
Perhaps a system of organization wherein the best tees are chosen by the people would make the most sense, but I give the teefury people their style and such to do with as they like.

    Anyway, love the tech-tree one.
    BECAUSE ITS FUNNY.

Loving the space crabs. Today's shirt is beautiful...have to think about it- I wish that italian food wasn't attracted to these light colors.

Does anyone know what the kanji means? I live in fear of being one of *those* people, wearing something awful in another language and not knowing it.

All you art lovers better be buying shirts like crazy this week. It's your chance to prove they sell as well as 'other' shirts, which apparenly aren't 'art'. Not that I have anything against these shirts and don't think they're well made, but I find a lot of 'art' shirts kind of boring, and not that much more original than other shirts. Not like birds in paper form haven't been made before. For me a good tshirt isn't just good art work, or just a good concept, but both, and a lot of art shirts aren't that good/interesting conceptually.

Word. People gripe about there not being enough art shirts, but when they get them it's always like "Eh, I'd buy it if it was on a different color." or "Not my taste." or oddly "Awesome... but I wouldn't wear it." people are really nitpicky about artsy shirts, but when it's a exploding bacteria tee they will most likely spend their money if they're a fan of the reference, even if they'd prefer it on another color, or think the placement could be improved, they'll buy it anyway, because it's about something they love.

But at any rate, I think people should stop worrying about art vs exploding-bacteria, and just worry about if the shirt is well done or not. Actually, they shouldn't worry about anything, they're just t-shirts, nobody dies or gets hurt so people should stop acting like it really matters whether there are 5 Star Wars shirts in a row or not. You don't like a shirt? Awesome! You get to save some money! It's a recession motherfathers!

Art shirts don't sell as well, for starters, because everyone who likes art likes different art. I may appreciate a tee and not want to wear it. On the other hand, popbacteria nonspoofalicious will ALWAYS sell better because the people who like it are indiscriminate. It has a built-in fan base that doesn't care what it looks like so long as they "get it". What you're arguing is that people should all like an art tee because it's artistic, like people all like reference tees because they're references. Which basically implies that a reference tee's worth is the reference, not the art or the shirt. Certainly not concept. I didn't realize the girl in my 5th grade class who could accurately draw Cathy comics was an art superstar.

If a site were to cater far too heavily to the exploding-clutter crowd, it would likely lose a good deal of its artistic sales base, anyway, so really, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. You equate quantity with quality long enough, you ostracize the people who have their own diverse tastes. You focus on diversity, really focus and not just pay lip service while taking stock of what will sell the most heavily instead of what is simply the most worthy art, and you will maybe sell fewer shirts total, or certainly fewer shirts per design, but you will maintain a more loyal and diverse and growing crowd. To imply that just because someone deemed something artistic a) makes it so, and b) means people who like artistic things should buy it, means you don't understand why art means anything to people, and implies you are complacent in the reasons reference resonates so much. And more than that, it implies that people who are ever reaching outside of the known world and inside themselves should not be the ones who get artistic opportunities. It implies that tshirt graphics are not and should not be art to the person who says it.

I'll concur, though, that people who complain about shirt blank are usually foolish and always annoying. But those aren't the "artsy" crowd, anyway. If they grasped art, they'd also grasp the worth of the chosen canvas color.

It's cool that you're opinionated and passionate about this subject. I think you may read a little too into what people say because you're anxious to debate. You've somehow extrapolated a lot of ridiculous "implications" from what I said. I didn't argue or imply that anybody should by any type of shirt for any reason, I'm just pointing out what happens, which you repeated in a different way. "Art shirts don't sell as well, for starters, because everyone who likes art likes different art. I may appreciate a tee and not want to wear it. On the other hand, popbacteria nonspoofalicious will ALWAYS sell better because the people who like it are indiscriminate." Yeah... that's what I said.

I'm just tired of self-entitled whiners who are outraged that a t-shirt company is not catering enough to them. If Teefury is more into printing exploding bacteria shirts, and people are more into buying them, then that's their prerogative. They're finding their niche. anothersite has their niche, DBH has their niche, and so on and so forth. There are many places out there to get t-shirts. Personally I don't complain about the offerings of any of them, I just buy shirts from the ones that I like. I personally don't sweat it when I don't see a shirt I like, because hey, it's not going to kill me to not buy a shirt. I wouldn't get mad if a company I liked started catering to a crowd I didn't fit, they have no obligation to me, they're a company, they can make money however they see fit. As long as they're not raping, killing or stealing live and let live. Maybe I'm too positive and laid back for the internet t-shirt site world, but I don't get why people get so bothered over shirts.

As an artist myself I definitely don't feel that "people who are ever reaching outside of the known world and inside themselves should not be the ones who get artistic opportunities". But we artists should be able to look at who's offering the opportunities and see which places fit what we're trying to do. If that's not Teefury, oh well. Teefury, nor any other site, is not obligated to give any and every artist an opportunity, only the ones who are doing the things that fit what they want. You keep talking about t-shirt graphics as a whole, but Teefury is just one place, and a business. There's room for all types of artists and types of art in t-shirt graphics, but I don't know where people get the idea that Teefury should be representing everyone. I don't go to Metal Ink and complain about their lack of cute cartoony designs. I don't go to DBH and complain that they have too many allover designs.
I don't know why people act like it's some great tragedy that Teefury, only one of the many places on the internet that sells 24hr shirts, caters more to one crowd than another. I could understand if Teefury was the only place you could get shirts, but it's not. So people need to chill. Give the self-righteous spiel a rest because there are plenty opportunities out there for artists to do exactly the kinds of things they want to do, and plenty of vendors out there for people to buy exactly the kind of shirts they want.

Also, BRING BACK THE ARCHIVE! Never forgive, never forget!
  • usagi32211said 121 weeks ago

I love this, and will definately buy it. However, I think I'd like it more on a light blue background instead of white. It would give it a more 'in the sky' look.

I'm sure it would up costs, but it would be cool if you could choose your shirt color, since I see posts every day fussing about the shirt color.
  • lovejoy_ratsaid 121 weeks ago

Not a fan of the cream... love the pirate pic on the side tho! :)
  • KIDA26said 121 weeks ago

I remember this artist from Shirt.Woot.... the Aloha shirt on the side art is amazing. I want it.
  • PirateZombysaid 121 weeks ago

Wow, this is actually very pretty. I love the angle and "attitude" of the bird roosting on the branch...something about it seems very birdlike to me. Well done!

And Usagi, I agree that there should be some kind of shirt-color-chooser option, even though I have no doubt it'd affect the cost.
  • FuzzyLogicsaid 121 weeks ago

Word. People gripe about there not being enough art shirts, but when they get them it's always like "Eh, I'd buy it if it was on a different color." or "Not my taste." or oddly "Awesome... but I wouldn't wear it." I think people should stop worrying about art vs exploding-bacteria, and just worry about if the shirt is well done or not.

    Thank you. :D

I really can't afford this. I have to break into a special place

Love the shirt, I'm a huge origami freak. I just wish I could pick different colors for the ground of the shirt...think about it teefury, not all of us look good in some colors like bright red. Some of us are really messy and don't like wearing white shirts **cough** **points at self**If we had a little more of a choice in the base color of the shirt you might sell more....just sayin.
    Love ya.

  • Dr. RowdyBushsaid 121 weeks ago

Btw I really like the themed weeks.
  • midnightglorysaid 121 weeks ago

Was excited to hear about art week and definitely getting this one. I like these shirts way more than the shirts that reference exploding bacteria because I'll still be able to wear this shirt in a year or two and not have to explain it. And as much as I think Space Crabs and the Aloha shirt are good pieces, I'm not a teenager anymore and I can't get away with wearing those types of shirts around town. If I was still in college, then yeah, maybe I'd get the Space Crabs t-shirt but then again, I'd probably not have the cash to afford to constantly buy t-shirts anyway.

Finally, I like the cream colour. White shirts are, more often than not, kind of boring.

"For like the millionth time, the artists submit the specific design for TeeFury's approval, TeeFury doesn't choose it."

Well. Whether or not TeeFury chooses it, wouldn't it make more sense for the people who are buying the tees to vote on them? But I suppose that's not the point of this site, either- the point is to get artists some notice, and to have fun with it- to get tees out there that are novel and that people will enjoy- that all sorts of different people would enjoy, who might get stomped on by the majority vote.

    . . .

But still, it would make more sense as a business model.
  • jecrtsaid 121 weeks ago

no, that wouldn't make more sense. Teefury only prints what's ordered. There's hardly any leftovers. Also, moderators can reach out to artists better. It's kinda lame to find a great artist and then tell them to submit something with the chances of being printed for a day. Not to mention, as an artist, that's a lot of hoops to jump through for a profit-sharing model. I think their current business plan is genius.

lastly - this is a great shirt! Great work Chris!

Yeah, it's the business model of EVERY OTHER T-SHIRT SITE OUT THERE and to be quite honest it's extremely difficult to break through the barriers of a popularity contest on those sites. If not for TeeFury, I'm doubting my shirt would have been printed anywhere else based on my sheer unpopularity.

So even though sometimes the tees are lacking here, they do have a lot of really cool break-out designers and shirts that you may not have seen on other sites just because of the sheer amount of people submitting on them.

Do people REALLY expect to like every single shirt produced by one company? Do you even have enough money to buy a copy of every single print, every single day anyway?

So why does it matter if there are days when the designs aren't to your taste? Close the window and move on. Go buy some candy instead.

  • WeirdFishsaid 121 weeks ago

Oh for the love of Voyager....

    1) I bought this shirt because the design is friggin' TEH AWESUMZ.

    2) Yeah, I'm Japanese, but that's irrelevant.... okay, maybe it isn't and that I'm really jonesing for anything that even remotely hints of Japanese bacteria that isn't all anime-white-person-otaku-fruitcake-obsession-like.

    3) If I didn't like this shirt, I would have ----- wait for it ------ WAITED FOR TOMORROW TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT DESIGN WOULD BE.

Like I did for the past month and a half or however long it was since Jimiyo's Darth Tut design. Perish the thought that I could express my opinion with ------ wait for it ------ the option to use or not use my credit card!

    4) $9 is dirt cheap for a well-designed shirt that doesn't scream "tourist." Just sayin'.
