this really has nothing to do with lost, besides the obvious Dharma reference. I was looking forward to a good one, but I guess I'll just have to wait another 24 hours.
Like others I was really looking forward to the LOST shirt and am quite disappointed. The pun isn't as related to the show as it should be for a reference shirt, in my opinion, and it's just ... a let down. Sorry.

me too, I was excited for a good Lost shirt but I wouldn't get this one. I'll hold out and hope the Star Wars one later this week is awesome
awwwww,... man,... ..just gotta say some things here...
Other than the Dharma logo looking like a plate, I guess, & Schwarma rhyming w/ polar bear? I just feel like you lost on this one.
I mean, you could have at least connected the imagery w/ the show a little more.
Maybe the knife could have been Locke's knife, the other utensils could have been replicas from when they ate on the show. I mean the show is all about infinite subtle connections,... and you basically submitted a design that said, "Hehehe, dharma schwarma".
I don't know man, -100 originacreativility points, sorry.
The LOST shirt could have been much better but it's ok. The side art is realIy cool. just hope the Mario shirt tomorrow has a leaf and a racoon tail involved in some way **fingers crossed**
The previous Spock one didn't have anything to do with the show, but I think it won with me because the play on words was clear.
I had to look up what schwarma was to get this, and even then the play on words just didn't really hit me, I guess because I didn't know what schwarma was (though it does sound delicious).
I really enjoy a good pun, but I don't want people to have to go home and look it up to understand it.

I really wish it would've been a better shirt. I'm obsessed with Lost and I really didn't get it until I saw the link. I was really anticipating this shirt and I got let down. The design is well drawn and I like it, I just don't like the reference.
just hoping for a dope mario shirt tmrw.
it would have to be pretty bad for me not to get it.
but things haven't been too impressive around here lately.
although, the side arts have been super good.
what's up with that?
I like lost, seen an episode here and there, and i know what dharma is but rele don't see how this connects to the show at all thought. Well except for the place thing. I do love most of the side art tho. If one of those were up, it would be a sure buy. Hope one of them will be on TeeFury soon :)
Don't really watch Lost so I think I will let this one pass. I gotta say guys, so far I'm really unimpressed with the geek show reference week. Sorry :(
Teevil said: Wondering what shawarma is? Check this out- delicious!
Great! A shirt that I need to click on a link and watch a reality TV show to understand. Should I carry my laptop and a television around with me while wearing it, so everyone else will get it?
I like Schwarma and I love lost, but no way would I actually wear this. So far I'm 0/2 on Pop culture week and you've covered two of my favourite things already. I'm hoping the rest of the shirts will be better. There are so many better LOST parodies that could've been saved for this holy grail of a week.
twoifbysea said: Like others I was really looking forward to the LOST shirt and am quite disappointed. The pun isn't as related to the show as it should be for a reference shirt, in my opinion, and it's just ... a let down. Sorry.
I totally agree. I feel like there are so many parodies of lost out there that would make great t-shirts and this one could have been much better, and more related.
The most delicious Shawarma I ever had was on the island of St. Martin (the French side). I should open up a food stand on the dutch side and use this as my logo! ;)
meow dissapointed this doesn't exactly seem very thought through, no point rhyming a word that doesn't have any real relevance to the show. And I do prefer more subtle references and though anyone that's not a lost fan will likely recognise the Dharma logo I still think it's a bit much. Could do with a punch line!
I agree that a Locke Paper Scissors shirt would have been better!
I want pop culture week to last forever, so long as it's just Star wars and Star trek. I have never watched lost, so really don't understand what's going on here. Still, red is a cool color..
Compared to the previous Lost shirt I've seen on TeeFury (The Polar Beer one), this one seems very basic in both the idea and the execution.
As other posters have previously said, the show is all about little things, but this design is pretty straight forward with no little hints toward the show at all.
This shirt is pretty funny. I've only seen the first 3 episodes (about 3 years ago) and instantly got the joke. Maybe it helped that I've actually heard of a shawarma.
Sorry i had to make an account just to say how much of a letdown this is....when i foudn out we were getting a Lost shirt tuesday i was so excited! Shawarma though? really? Greatly dissapointed.... Maybe we can get a GOOD Lost reference shirt up for the premiere of the final season or something?
I love this website already haha ^_^'
Sorry for the letdown...it's my first design here...
I think it's uberawesome and some of you hillbillies need to get out of your houses and taste some foreign cuisines....it will broaden your horizon. I'm glad I popped my teefury cherry! Shoutout to the BRC!

This looks less like a LOST reference and more like a bad logo for a middle-eastern fast food restaurant. The elements don't relate well, the elements are crudely drawn and no one would get the "joke" based on the information presented.

If it is your design then of course you think it's funny. You also probably understand what you were trying to get across with the design and concept. Too bad you couldn't let the rest of us in on the joke.
Also calling people hillbillies isn't going to make you any fans. The majority of the LOST fanbase is the United States which is a country that per capita, has extremely few restaurants that serve Shawarma which is admittedly unfortunate. However it is very hard to try what isn't offered.
I agree with whacko. I don't watch LOST or much tv in general, so the reference was no where in sight for me, in addition, I had to look up what that dish was as well. I have no gripes when people post shirts that I dont like, but I can usually grasp what they are trying to convey in them.
I also agree with whacko in regards that calling people names that don't understand your design especially when this is your first design TeeFury is selling isn't very smart on your part. Everyone has opinions and are entitled to make them known, and I think you should accept the constructive critisism for your future tees if you want your future designs on the site to be well accepted and/or understood. IMO
p.s. Just because people don't know what that dish is doesn't mean they are any less-cultured with foods. Just means THAT ONE dish is something they haven't had yet. I myself have indulged in many Middle Eastern cuisines but have never had, nor heard of that one.
hmm only got into lost for like the first and second season...beyond that I have no clue, but thats not the artists fault it is very well mine. However I enjoy the side art. You know what I would like to see on teefury? I would love to see something created strictly from the artists mind, not based on anything we watch on tv or whatever....I miss strict imagination.
This is not a knock to the artist because I'm sure it would be really clever if I knew what it was talking about! :)
Monkey said: I said some of you, whacko...and if the shoe fits.... And LOST is international... how narrowminded can you get.
Just because LOST is an "international" show doesn't mean people watch it. You should follow your own advice... "get out of your house...it will broaden your horizons" TV isn't everything my friend, and not everyone chooses to drone out watching that stuff.
It'd just be nice if the commenters would stop writing "schwarma" and spell it correctly. The "sch" is more of a German thing than an Arabic thing, really (kinda' like how "bruschetta" is pronounced "broos-ketta" and not "broo-shetta").
Okay, back to letting everyone else whine and complain again. I'm off.
teefury.com, this place should be called Geekreferenceshirt.com
though I do love a good Shawarma and Lost I still prefer more artistic shirts over a quick laugh
Wow, you gotta love when people don't like their tee designs. I actually don't mind the design, if you don't look at the reference. The bold coloring is pretty rad, but the execution could have been done better. And the Oceanic Air logo is a bit out of place with the rest of the design. I don't know if that was intentional but everything else is too straight edge and sharp for a little logo in the corner. Not bad for your first tee on here. Can't wait for tomorrow!
I have never seen lost but I AM middle eastern. Schwarma is tasty stuff, but this shirt really is lacking. Even if I didn't get the reference, if the design were more interesting or more artistic I would buy it. I loved when I first found this site, seemed like all the shirts were very artistic, even the pulp culture ones...which was a nice change from all of the crappy tee sites out there. But this...this...
Sigh.
And how is it that the artist is allowed to be insulting and offensive but the posters are not?
If the shirt isn't any good, read why, learn, move on.
Okay, I did order the shirt because of the Lost parody, but now, after an insult from the artist to potential shirt buyers, not thrilled. Tempted to cancel order. Seriously? Way to alienate your buying base.
I'm pretty much obsessed with Lost too, can't wait for the final season to start.
On this shirt, I was really excited to see the Lost shirt of the week. I really like the concept of this shirt, but it's tad too simple for my taste. But good work though.
I LOVE LOST and was looking forward to this one, but agree with the other comments that this one is disappointing and not creative. Shawarma rhymes with Dharma? meow. Makes no sense.
Hopefully there will be other, better Lost shirts in the future.
Random question--- why is the Archives button gone? Is it just my comp or did it disappear?
Like I said TeeFury, like I said...you coulda made a mint with me!!!
How so could they have made a mint? The archives show past Tshirts. But you can't buy them.
for any one who wants to go back and see the shirts u stillo\ can even though they took down the archives....if u have a facebook add teefury and in their photos they have pictures of past shirts,by dates...also they give u a preview at like 11:25pm what they shirt for the next day will be...which is great!
Wow you find my comments more offensive then the ones you read
earlier? I take the constructive criticism and the positive reactions
with me. Everyone can have an opinion, except
the artist? These internet discussions are hilarious. *eats popcorn*
I often get schwarma for lunch and I watch Lost, so while this is no where NEAR as awesome as the Polar Beer shirt, I feel I must get it so that I may spread my love for delicious foods and crazy Island hippies simultaneously.
While the reference here is, well... let's face it there is no reference. The artist apparently just noticed than Dharma and Shawarma sort of rhymed and then designed a shirt with absolutely no meaning behind it, I love Lost and I love shawarmas... thus, you have yourself a sale.

saying that a design doesn't work and a concept is weak is a much different opinion than the posters are "hillbillies".
So yes, that would be more offensive. I'd most likely never buy any of your designs simply based on the way you've acted thus far. Which is dad since your talent is obvious in the side art. I just don't want to give you any of my hillbilly uncultured money.
There's nothing wrong with explained criticism the only problem I see is the artist's insulting response to criticism
To be fair to the artist, a number of insulting posts were deleted.
They were much more rude than jokingly using the word hillbillies, which I think was pretty clearly not intended as a serious insult or personal attack on anyone. Chalk it up to cultural differences and move on.

Hitted the nail on his head.
I respect that...
I guess I shouldn't said that word in retrospect...thought that peeps here could take a joke. But nonetheless it's all good in the teefuryhood.
"hillbillies" is totally a LOST reference anyway. that's what the others were initially thought to be to the oceanic crew. it all fits together in the end :P
I missed something somewhere, how do you know tomorrow's design theme? And agreed, this misses the mark for me and I also like that moon one on the side.
The amount of hurt feelings in these posts makes me sad. For the people that don't know what shawarma is that's unfortunate but these things happen. For those that don't watch Lost, again, POP culture reference not CROSS culture reference.
To the people who say this design should have more to do with Lost than a rhyme, did you not see the shirt yesterday? Spoc, paper, scissors - just a reference to a TV show and a rhyme. Heaven forbid you don't know what rock, paper, scissors is. As far as quirky pop culture referencing t-shirts go it's not bad, but quirky pop culture references always have their niche, If you don't fit into the niche don't say the design is poorly constructed.
The designer made a comment that was out of line because he was getting nothing but negative feedback. Everyone else has taken his hillbilly comment as a personal attack. I think it would be best for people to calm down and not get so emotional about a shirt that you're not going to buy. It's not like you buy one every day.
Also "I guess, & Schwarma rhyming w/ polar bear? I just feel like you lost on this one." has to be the funniest comment I've EVER seen on this website.

Thanks for helping to prove my point about people not being able to understand or get the joke. I've never seen the show. I suppose I'm a dummy for thinking that "Lost" was a reality show. Still, I feel my point was valid. If Teevil has to post a link to inform people what shawarma is, then it's obscure enough not to be considered a "pop culture" reference. So, only people who watch "lost" or know what shawarma is, will get the joke. Not really "pop culture". This design makes "Spock, paper, scissors" look like a stroke of genius.
Like I said, wake me when pop culture week is over.
I have never watch lost.. infarct i don't even watch TV or DVDs but its hard to not know about one of the most popular shows on TV. and pop culture week never ends at the FURY

Exactly! Glorious in its dumbfounding, borderline dada take on the "clever reference" tee. Doubt that was the artist's intent, but I always say screw intent it's about what I behold. And what I behold is hilarious madness.
Even a Lost dweeb as myself found it hard to follow. Reading the 'Shwarma' I thought the were mockin Dahrma, "Darma Shwarma". The sun in the background seems a bit unecessary, but still, though overall I do like it because of by bias to Lost itself. Although I suggest picking something easier to understand follow next time. I mean the link alone at the top of the page to actually find out what Shwarma is, in itself screams confusion.
It's surprising to me how many people here have never heard of a shawarma. Thank you for making this shirt all the more awesome, folks, with your hilariously genuine confusion. I will wear this shirt proudly, and every time a person points and says "What the hell?" I will gladly reply "Exactly."
hm, it bothers me how many negative comments people left on this shirt.
i don't have anything close to a normal tv station, so i can't make the reference, but i like the simple layout and at the same time the interesting design of the plate.
Thus, in my opinion, you did not "strike out"
perhaps a few people won't buy it, but that doesn't make it a failure.
I'm not a fan of this shirt, but I'm not going to knock it either. I think it was a good idea, but carried out in a way that made it applicable to a smaller audience.

Thanks for the support everyone! To the ones that didn't like the shirt, maybe my future designs will suit you better. Can't please them all right? :) Always remember tomorrow is another day and another shirt.
SonBear said: hmm i think we need some more grab bags.

I actually sent teefury an email about that, they said that it was gone temporarily for maintenance. Then again, that was on December 21st, over two weeks ago...
Wow, I'm a bit late in catching up with this, but I don't like the shirt and I get called a hillbilly because I had to look up what the dish was? I actually would love to try foreign foods more often, and with the bit I have eaten, I've gone as extreme as possible with it. When I looked up the dish, I thought it sounded delicious. As has been mentioned, the main problem (at least with me and others) is that the pun is just too simple and not broad enough.
I might just not have to decide not to buy any future designs from Monkey if that's the reaction he gets to people not liking his designs.
I hear shawarma tastes extra delicious on tropical islands.
Tell us about this design:
Lost parody, probably the most favorite dish of Sayid. Fun-fact: it's spelled 'shoarma' in The Netherlands.
What's a day in the life of Tan like?
Ya'know, pretty much the same like any other nocturnal creature. Sleep during the day and suck blood at night.
What do you want Teefury fans to know?
95 is the neue black -- yeah you chew on that thought for a while.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Sushi & pho.
Do you own a lot of shirts? If so, what's your favorite?
I guess I own a fair amount of shirts haha. I really love my iheartnewyork-shirt! Let me explain: I've always wanted that shirt with Milton Glaser's logo. I went to NYC and everywhere I go, I saw that shirt. Soon after that I got sick and tired of seeing it, so I didn't bought it....then later back in Europe -- there was a big void, I wanted that shirt so bad! Needless to say, I got it from friends some time later.

Hopefully there will be other, better Lost shirts in the future.

There's nothing wrong with explained criticism the only problem I see is the artist's insulting response to criticism
Monkeysaid 124 weeks ago
earlier? I take the constructive criticism and the positive reactions
with me. Everyone can have an opinion, except
the artist? These internet discussions are hilarious. *eats popcorn*

Amycreates had suggested a shirt asking, "Where's the archive?". TeeFury could have made a mint by selling that shirt.

saying that a design doesn't work and a concept is weak is a much different opinion than the posters are "hillbillies".
So yes, that would be more offensive. I'd most likely never buy any of your designs simply based on the way you've acted thus far. Which is dad since your talent is obvious in the side art. I just don't want to give you any of my hillbilly uncultured money.

Someone tell me where I can find a shawarma to snack on while I wait for the lolcats and photoshops to start piling in.

Exactly! Glorious in its dumbfounding, borderline dada take on the "clever reference" tee. Doubt that was the artist's intent, but I always say screw intent it's about what I behold. And what I behold is hilarious madness.

i don't have anything close to a normal tv station, so i can't make the reference, but i like the simple layout and at the same time the interesting design of the plate.
Thus, in my opinion, you did not "strike out"
perhaps a few people won't buy it, but that doesn't make it a failure.
keep up the good work :]

I didn't call you dumb, I was just letting you know. And like biotwist said LOST is one of the most popular shows on network television, most people have heard of it. I'm tired of everyone hating on pop culture on this site, reality check POP CULTURE SELLS!

I actually sent teefury an email about that, they said that it was gone temporarily for maintenance. Then again, that was on December 21st, over two weeks ago...
