What's a day in the life of Kathleen like?

Besides design projects, at this time of the year there's always wood chopping and animal care. To balance sitting in front of a computer, I try to work outside everyday. I live in a rural community where I am also a mom, chicken wrangler, property manager, sometime art teacher, and whatever else is needed that day.


How did you get into art?

I just started drawing when I was young and haven't stopped making art in some form since then.

What advice would you offer to aspiring designers/artists looking to make a living with art?

The computer is just a tool. I think it's very important to spend time to get the basics down, drawing,  painting, basic design and composition. Technology is important but artwork without the basic hand skills is not as interesting in my opinion. Then, find a niche, an industry where artwork is important to their success. Especially in this economic climate, you have to let whoever is paying you know what the value of your work is.

MAC or PC?

I prefer and have always used a MAC in my own studio, but PCs don't seem to be that much different.

Do you have any interesting hobbies or tales of intrigue? Do tell!

I don't know that it's a tale of intrigue, but I have a story about my experience with attack roosters. It's a long story so it's posted (temporarily) on my blog.
