Words from jimiyo: Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm familiar with Haynes car manuals because I always had clunkers... ah, depressing times. I'm not sure what this keg on tripod wheels thing is though...
Tell us about this design. Did you use those car manuals?
Yes we always had those books around the house when I was a child but, never one of the car that my father owned at the time. To my father they were the font of all knowledge but, to me (and to my fathers annoyance) they where just incredibly complicated coloring books.
I designed this t-shirt a couple of years ago now, So It's been around for a while. When TeeFury contacted me. I saw this as a great opportunity to finally put it to bed. This is it's final swan song, In the immortal words of Michael Jackson "This is it!" and with my royalties - I intend to give to my favorite charity.
What's a day in the life of Reece like?
I think I'm like most t-shirt designers. I get no satisfaction, praise, or reward for my efforts as a graphic designer. so I design t-shirts. I design t-shirts to relieve my creativity and get a little something back. If it wasn't for t-shirts - I don't know what I'd be doing - They keep me sane.
Do you own alot of shirts? If so, what's your favorite?
I do own a lot of shirts, but the sun never shines here. It's like Twilight's Forks, so I never get to wear them and if I do they are covered with layers and layers of other clothing.
but my favorite t-shirt of all time is the 'Sex, Drugs & Helvetica Bold' I love it! It's pure genius!.
How did you get into art?
I don't know to be honest, all my family and brothers are trades men. I'm the black sheep. The runt of the litter. The one they kept in the cellar and fed through a hatch in the door, with just a cockroach and spider for company.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Keep at it! If you think you have talent - you probably do. It's just the people that employ you, who like to keep you in your place. They are probably not creatively minded and don't come from a creative background. Most people in our trade are money chasers from the 80's.
Any shout outs?
To my lovely wife Kerry. for putting up with me and always inspiring me. She is a diamond!
and to Brian, my cat. who thinks he is a dog. "Come-by, here boy, fetch!"
