TRAP
About the artist
Tell us about this design:
Initially it was just a test to see if I could replicate Fairey's Obama poster accuratly, without using one of those silly "Obama Poster Generators". I like how it came out, so I made a self portrait in the same style with the word "TURD" under it.
I was checking out your website. Looks like you're a skater, your spawn(s) are too, and you were once a hair farmer. Can you tell us about yourself:
I have been skateboarding for 26 years, and my body desparatley wants me to quit...but I can't. I design skateboard graphics, skateboard t-shirts, skateboard stickers, skateboard hats, skateboard print-ads, skateboard point of purchase stuff...and little else. I may have pidgeon-holed myself a little. Skateboard companies tend not to pay in money, they pay in skateboards, so my garage is filled with skateboarding stuff, and I'm ok with that.
I am married with two sons 10, and 7. The 7 year old skates with me, but the 10 year old isn't into it. I'd like him to skate with us, but would never try and make him. I think if my parents would have tried to make me skateboard, I NEVER would have. Instead they made me go to a psychiatrist because they said I was quiet, but there must have been some other kind of crazy going on that I don't even remember...what's wrong with being quiet?!
What's a day in the life of Tom like?
I work for a giant company as a DBA (Database Administrator). Most of the time I'm counting the minutes until I get to hang out with my people and watch Spongebob, and then go make art in my garage studio. There's usually some beer at some point too.
Do you own alot of shirts?
I own a TON of T-shirts. Most skateboard companies like to pay in product, and not actual human money, so...I have a lot of shirts. I love T-shirts, and I wish I could clone myself so I could wear more of them every day.
If so, what's your favorite?
My favorite shirt is the one I designed for Spitfire Wheels using the Spitfire head, and the JR logo I made for Johnny Romano. Johnny died a year ago, and I still feel emotional wearing the shirt. Jim Theibaud of DLXSF told me Johnny really liked the design, even though he couldn't talk when Jim showed it to him, he did give a big smile and a nod of approval.
If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
I would become a full-time artist, and rent a really big studio, that I could fit a nice big halfpipe in. Then I would make art, art, and more art with a skateboarding break every hour or so. I would also probably put a futon in there, because skateboarding makes me sleepy. In reality, I'd probably make a little art in the morning, then skate, then get a burrito, and then sleep the rest of the day. God that sounds so good.
Do you have any interesting hobbies or tales of intrigue?
I coach lacrosse to little people who don't listen. So really, I just stand there and watch them beat each other up with sticks...which is actually pretty awesome.
Any shout outs?
All my homies...you know who you is.

Never going to forgive myself for missing the "these are not the droids you're looking for" shirt. :(
Love this shirt though :)
