Oh snap, Teevil beat me to the TOS! Arrgh!

Teefury Announcement: Some of you might recognize this awesome design from DBH 1.0. We've since moved on, but since Ian Leino's art was so amazing, we wanted to give the internet one last chance to snag it before it's truly "Gone Tomorrow Forever!"

This shirt's gonna make your life so much betta!

    Hahaha, awesome!

I'm going to send this one along to my brother, he was real into most of those shows/movies and he was always really into cars,

Ghostbusters and Back to the Future ftw! :D

The death cab shirt on the right is pretty amazing as well.
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

I would drive around in the ghostbusters car without a doubt.
  • shutts67said 55 weeks ago

A-Team, Dukes of Hazard, Back to the Future,Knight Rider, The Blues Brothers, Ghostbutsers, Transformers, Is that the car from the arcade racing game? I don;t know about the space station-y thing of the helicopter...
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

Kyle how old are you? Just wondering cause I know that you dislike all the pop culture references so I was just wondering if its cause you are a lot older than me or what. I personally love the pop culture stuff because I feel like its a conversation piece. Like if one of my friends saw that shirt on me we could start talking about all the great shows that used to be on and reminisce about old movies and everything... Just my opinion
  • KyleMittskussaid 55 weeks ago

    23. I just wish there was more original stuff. Like the shirt with the dude that was spitting people out -- someone help me here -- I love that shirt. One of the only 2 I have purchased here. One of my all-time favorite shirts actually. Period. I like a lot of the more original, artistic-style shirts, but a lot just aren't my style, so I've only bought two. And I don't think I've said very much about pop culture stuff, although I could be wrong. I say a lot during the plagiarizing parties.
  • evilbreadsaid 55 weeks ago

Pass. I'm not going to one of those, "HAY! look at my '80's pop culture shirt! Sooo sick! Even though I was born in '83 and I didn't grow up watching these TV shows or and have only seen a few of the movies."

Do kids these days still say "sick", brah?
  • KyleMittskussaid 55 weeks ago

For example, I really like the bottom print on the right.
  • silvioislamesaid 55 weeks ago

The death cab shirt on the side is pretty solid

and @melbel i'm 18, and i still enjoy this shirt haha

wouldn't buy it for the fact that i'd feel a little funny seeing as I didn't watch them when they aired, but all quality shows or movies that I saw as a child
  • Mr. Sweet N Awfulsaid 55 weeks ago

I got all of them except the hellicopter and the sports car in the back, which I'm guessing is the car from Ferris Bueller's Day Off?

you gave away ONE free shirt? nice promotion...i'm assuming you have amazing servers that blast out to everyone's email simultaneously?

being a prepube in the 80's, the cars where the most memorable thing about the television shows. love the design, bought it!
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

Kyle I agree with you I love the original stuff... and I wouldnt buy this one because a few of the movies are before my time. I just kinda like when people make the shirts about pop culture that you wouldnt find anywhere else you know?

Anyone wanna make a Rainbow Brite shirt? haha

But I agree the bottom one is great and I think I know the shirt you are talking about with the people being spit out... Thats why I look on woot a lot because the shirts are kinda quirky and really original.. I feel like this site has a mix of both pop culture and original but you are right... its been more pop culture lately.. I just happen to not mind it. Being a girl I cant get a lot of the pop culture shirts here... Like I wouldnt walk around with darth vader on my chest or anything.
  • razz007said 55 weeks ago

  • KyleMittskussaid 55 weeks ago

Nor would I. And shirt.woot, yes for the dailies, about 70% of the time. But not the derbies. For the most part, the winners are unoriginal, horribly drawn, or just all-around terrible.

I don't dislike the pop culture shirts. I'm just getting really really tired of them. Unfortunately, I don't run the world.

    How old are you?
  • KyleMittskussaid 55 weeks ago

I didn't get an email either kylecoster.

  • Sirknifesalotsaid 55 weeks ago

Gotta go Gran Torino on that. Unless you're talking about the fake Testarossa that was built on a Corvette in the early Miami Vice episodes. Until Ferrari found out about it and just gave the show a Testarossa to use.

Not such early episodes, the Testarossa didn't come into play until the 356 Spyder was blown up. Season 3 or 4 maybe? Didn't Glen Frey have something to do with that? I haven't seen Miami Vice since before I started repressing memories...
  • Kimoppisaid 55 weeks ago

For everyone out there who have more experience with all the rules of copyright and art adaptation, etc... I'm curious:

Where is the line between copyright infringement and art? I've been curious about this lately. Exactly how different does a pop culture reference have to be from the copyrighted material to be allowable as a new idea and therefor NOT a case of infringement?

I never really understood the distinction. I really started to think of it back when we had the plaid Darth Vader head (Plaidinum 5-12-09). Would it have been a case of infringement if it had been black, but because it was plaid it was now pop culture inspired art?
  • Thomas Magnumsaid 55 weeks ago

    Got it.
  • Kimoppisaid 55 weeks ago

I almost forgot... As a child of the 80's who STILL worships at the alter of hilariously awful (and therefor BRILLIANT) 80's movies and television... I LOVE THIS!

Too bad I've been unemployed for the last three and a half months. Once I finally get a job I'll be a grab bag monster and hope for the best. :-)
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

sir... i just checked out the american apparel website... wowza.
  • Sirknifesalotsaid 55 weeks ago

I didn't watch much of Miami Vice ProfessorE. Only a few reruns. Oh and the bad movie remake which was just boring. I only remember hearing about how when Ferrari found out it was a fake Ferrari they ended up giving the show one or multiple ones to use. They recently auctioned off one from the show a few years ago on Barret Jackson and it went for surprisingly cheap considering it was a Testarossa. I mean something like $77,000 cheap. Which is probably still cheap for that car and considering it's history. Plus I mean if you bought it you could totally pretend you're them. Lol!
  • Sirknifesalotsaid 55 weeks ago

Yeah Melbel. A little strange eh? I only went to it cause I think Stablercake mentioned something about how come Teefury doesn't use them as a t-shirt base like a lot of other t-shirt companies. So I went to their site to see if I could get good fitting, plain tees. And low and behold there's some baffling "artistic" photos in there.
  • StuartTheMansaid 55 weeks ago

I love the fingers design. Love to have it on a tee...
  • Sirknifesalotsaid 55 weeks ago

And by baffling "artistic" photos I mean could be child porn. o_0

  • pbanditosaid 55 weeks ago

"Like the shirt with the dude that was spitting people out"
Not quite as eloquent as one might have put it but that would be Apparition of the Grouchy God. Love that shirt; definitely my fav out of the tees bought here.

As to this design - I'd like it much more if Optimus Prime were in vehicle form, lined up with the others so that it's more subtle at first.

...And when are guy's getting some turquoise love?
  • le6osaid 55 weeks ago

Whoop, I've been wanting this t-shirt for so long, I Ordered it from DBH and was then told it had sold out. Thanks Tee Fury, its my birthday today as well, great little present to myself :-)
  • eludingsunsaid 55 weeks ago

    happy birthday le6o! :)
  • thejakeyl88said 55 weeks ago

Few people don't want to buy this shirt because they don't want to be "the guy with the 80's tee." You do understand thats just your opinion, you think that, and its your thinking that, that is stopping you from buying it. Don't be your own enemy ;)... I mean really no one is going to see this shirt on you and think "oh man he's just trying to be cool." Heck I was born in 1984, but I grew up watching these shows and movies, so it don't matter. I can see you not watching it and not wanting the shirt for those reasons, but to say people will look at you and think that about you just makes it seem like you feel all of us buying it will be looked at like that. I don't want people to think that about me, so I hope you are wrong.

Also, why do people complain on a nightly basis that this shirt should be more artistic, or more original or what not. All I have to say about that is, just wait a night or two, and you'll get a shirt up there that you like and that fits your style. There are plenty of shirts a lot of us don't personally like, but we don't try to act as if EVERYONE hates the shirt and that Teefury shouldn't put shirts up like this at all. Sorry to complain about complainers, but its been bugging me lately because its like trying to weed a garden, they just keep popping up.

    Guten Nacht!
  • thejakeyl88said 55 weeks ago

@jaysea420 - Yeah. I totally would have bought it if there was like an Enterprise and a TARDIS in there, but I think those shows were out since they spanned a bigger timeline. STILL, would have bought with a decrepit blue box in the mix.

And SirKnifesAlot- I think you might be a prude :\ Sorry to say, I've seen the site and sure, there's nudity, but in my opinion it's not pornographic at all.

As for all the American Apparel stuff... I agree with Sir Knifes Alot... Im no prude by any means but I dont want to be seeing Shlong, Gina or Tittays when Im shopping for clothing. IMO
  • icecubesaid 55 weeks ago

Hm, I never noticed that about the AA site, but then again I've only looked at their hoodies and T-shirts before.

Did the site give a warning about nudity? I usually skip past that stuff. (Just curious)
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

I didnt see a warning.. I guess the only reason that I think its weird is cause there is a kids section on the site... lol

But I will say that the site is not as bad as it used to be... theres a lot less nudity now then there was before.

Lol just because they have kids' clothes doesn't mean kids will be shopping on the site

And what's all the h.ate? I'm a girl and I dig Star Trek and Doctor Who all that Sci-Fi and comic book nerd junk and I know I'm not the only one :) Give it a chance, maybe you'll like it!
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

Im not h.ating on star wars and all that... its just not my thing, Im not into the sci fi stuff. And I am def not into the comic book nerd junk... I have nothing against it or the people who like it... It just doesnt interest me.

and I know kids who are like 13 and 14 and go online to find clothing... so yeah there is a chance that they will see it.
  • PSORngrsaid 55 weeks ago

My first purchase. I've been following since the TMNT shirt. Nothing up until this one has been really wearable. Seems like a lot of the shirts on this side are very morbid, a stark contrast from the usually kiddy shirts on woot. Why can't there be a middle ground site?

I've like a few of the shirts on here but none, until now, enough to buy and woot has some great ones in the contests but they never seem to win.
  • jayropedawg88said 55 weeks ago

    @ melbel:

yeah, i can see that you're not "h.ating." i just wanted to make sure that you knew that it's not strictly a guy's thing.

and you do have a good point about sci-fi being geared towards guys. i mean think about it: princess leia wasn't wearing a bra when we first met her (i don't mean when she was born, i mean in episode 4 as an adult), then 2 movies later she's wearing hardly nothing in her slave outfit. then you have the women of starfleet wearing really short skirts in the original star trek series, then seven of nine wearing a skintight outfit in voyager. firefly did better with zoe, but then you've inara the "companion" who's basically a glorified prostitute. one could even argue that with zoe's character, the only reason she's "awesome" is because she's not feminine. wash gets on her for wearing the pants in the relationship!

so, yes, i see your point :) it makes me wonder why girls even like sci-fi. it's obviously a patriarchal ploy of phallocentrism. but then again, what isn't? ^_^

whoa...just realized how long and snooty this post is. sorry about the feminist rant! i'll leave it up for the sake of discussion though!
  • jayropedawg88said 55 weeks ago

    correction: "you've GOT inara"
  • robinzeggblusaid 55 weeks ago

for those of you bitching (complaining, in case that got sensored) about the pop culture references, pop culture is the hre and now, its what happening in the world around us. If you're that into old things, buy some shirts today, throw them in the attic for a decade or so and, tada! vintage! lol.

I think the idea is great and the design is solid, not for me but keep up the good work.
    :)
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

    @joeyropedog

I wish I knew who you were talking about... all I know is princess leia haha. But I agree... any movie where there is a female alien she is always a sexy female alien. But yeah that I guess that is always why I always think that stuff is geared towards men... and I have no problem with your feminist rant... Its nice to see some girls on here. I feel like its always dudes.
  • KyleMittskussaid 55 weeks ago

    Hey Mel,

The female alien from the Alien movies was not sexy... AT ALL!
  • geofortsaid 55 weeks ago

This is the MOST original T-shirt that TeeFury has put up for sale. I've been viewing this site on and off for over the past six months and have found two shirts I loved, which I purchased. Yes, this is a POP culture T-shirt, but would you rather have something that has nothing to do with anything. Pop culture means "POPULAR CULTURE". It sells because it's popular. As a product of the 80's, I loved (and still love) all of the shows the shirt references. Wearing the shirt will share my love with everyone else. Would you rather have more skull shirts? Or better yet, maybe another animal shirt that looks like it was found in the trash can of a third world country. Chariots Retired will be my third purchase. Thank you Ian Leino.
  • thejakeyl88said 55 weeks ago

You know a shirt speaks to ya, when you promised yourself "NO MORE SHIRTS THIS WEEK" and then find yourself clicking that final order button a day or two later.
  • stablercakesaid 55 weeks ago

    @jayropedawg88

Lol, really? I mostly watch Sci-Fi for the interesting visuals/writing of TECHNO-FUTURE, but a good portion of my interest the hot mens.

Sooo it can really go either way, haha.
  • Gods & Monsterssaid 55 weeks ago

I dont get how this is even close to making a new record, but to each their own. Good Job, it is a great illustration.

has anyone else read the fine print on the bottom of ian's website?

    Geofort:

This shirt has been previously printed so it's actually not original. No offense to the shirt, congrats on the new record, but it's not the most original shirt on here because it's recycled. Good recycled, but nevertheless...
  • ianleinosaid 55 weeks ago

    WoooooooHoooooo!

I've always wanted my name on a TeeFury Heisman, and now my dream has been achieved! Thanks SO much to everyone who purchased, commented, blogged, linked, tweeted, and in any other way helped this become the new bestseller.

You are all wonderful, amazing, and dare I say beautiful people with generous hearts and a highly refined sense of style. Thank You!

    @stablercake:

haha, yes really ^_^ i know what you mean about awesome plot and characters and stuff like that. like i said before, i love sci-fi and fantasy too :) i just thought i'd point out some of the sexism latent in sci-fi because most of it was created to pander to guys.
  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

I didnt but the shirt... but I am going to pretend that I had some contribution to you becoming the new best seller. It makes me feel like I did my good deed for the day.
  • jayropedawg88said 55 weeks ago

now for something related to the t-shirt: how do we know the exact number of shirts being sold? like, how do we know it's a record? just curious :)

Epic design, great shirt. I have now joined SOLELY because of this (I must now go get rid of some shirts to make room).

  • Sirknifesalotsaid 55 weeks ago

I'm definitely no prude. I guess I just don't see the point of showing of the clothing when you're not actually wearing it in a few of the pics. Especially when it's the piece you're supposed to be modeling. I question the motives behind it because of that. Agree or disagree I don't care. I'm just explaining how I viewed it. Just seems a little suspect is all.
  • Sirknifesalotsaid 55 weeks ago

What prompted the change from the Batmobile to Kit from Knight Rider?
  • Sirknifesalotsaid 55 weeks ago

Melbel are you talking about the movie Species?
  • seraberasaid 55 weeks ago

Loved it, didn't even hesitate to buy.
  • Mr Rockssaid 55 weeks ago

Congrats on this shirts rebirth Ian. It's finally found it's market, and deserves to sell well.
  • pizzaboxsaid 55 weeks ago

  • melbelsaid 55 weeks ago

What prompted the change from the Batmobile to Kit from Knight Rider?

On the original Threadless sub, there was a great deal of discussion about which to use. It originally had the Batmobile, and Kitt in place of the General Lee. Things just progressed from there.
  • cbass99said 55 weeks ago

Nice work Ian. All of your stuff is pretty sweet! Congrats!
