Haven't bought from TeeFury in awhile. This is a refreshingly simplistic, meaningful, and stylistically pleasing shirt. Thanks for choosing this for today!
i was hoping there would be a michael jackson memorial shirt, but i was hoping it would be a picture of, well, michael jackson :\ the bird is cool and all, but not everyone would get it.
and i would have to disagree with stablercake. this may sound cliche, but his music is what's going to live on.
My opinion is FREAK! I missed yesterdays shirt! I ran to my computer and got to it 1 minute too late to get it. Is there ANY WAY I can get it? somebody help a brother out.
@jayropedawg88 Sometimes, things we wear are for ourselves. So no, not everyone would get it, but some things are for US to know what it is and the meaning it carries for us.
agreed wonderboy, but personally, i'd rather memorialize him with an artistic interpretation of HIM, not just him as a bird because it's teefury related.
Obviously its in memory of MJ, I'm just saying it's a pretty lame "tribute". Think of the great images any one of the artists here could have created of the great singer. Could have been really cool.
I see where you're coming from and I'm glad you were mature enough to answer that way. I was afraid you'd be one of those people that would yell at me for saying something slightly contrary to what they had stated. Thanks for being better than that :D
I'm so torn because I in general like this but at the same time don't want to be that girl with the tribute shirt.... Also, am I the only one who finds it kind of morbid that its the dead bird (beyond just shameless tee fury promotion/ its probably the point)
i don't think real art or something proper is something we should be worried about here. the point is teefury made a tribute for a pop king. they used there own logo in memorial and made it a into something that could represent something bigger, as well as themselves. it's a nice, classy design.. and i think it represents the person well.
personally, i think tributes should be a simple design like this, it gets the point and consideration across to more people quicker.
I would love to have had a survey yesterday which asked opinions of Michael Jackson, and one tomorrow that did the same, and compare them. I am sure that the "crazy" tallies would shrink dramatically, and the "love" ones would grow exponentially.
He had plenty of classic songs, but the fact is for at least 15 years, he has been about drama and hype and crazy, not about music or being the "King of Pop." I respect his musical legacy. But that died long ago. If I ever feel like paying tribute to that, I will put a CD on. That's in memory of Michael. This? I don't know what this is, but I'm pretty sure I don't like it.
jayropedawg88, personally i'm really happy it's not just a picture of mj. i know i wouldn't personally wear a shirt like that. i can see how it's a more 'classic tribute' but i'm glad it's the teefury bird as well, it's give us something even more personal to the shirt.
well eludingsun, that second part is the problem. a tribute as a teefury bird won't get the point across to more people because the bird is confusing to anyone not familiar with teefury. that's why more of us want something different. don't get me wrong, the design is cute, but just not what i'm personally looking for.
Not that "Popular music 5" would have been a good idea either, though. You would not wear michael jackson's face on your chest ANY OTHER DAY except the night he died. No matter how artfully rendered. Admit it.
As that goes, classy tribute. Thank you for not subjecting us to the man with the female-genitalia face. But I still feel wrong about it. Not as an MJ fan, but as a consumer.
MJ had such a bizarre childhood I can't really blame him for being so squirrelly for the past dozen years or so. So I'll remember the parts b4 that- like the way I was jealous that my friend had Thriller on LP and I didn't, and how his Beat It jacket was all the rage when I was in 4th grade, how he teamed up with Vincent Price for Thriller, how BAD arse Smooth Criminal was (song, video, and especially video game),how Burton Guster dressed up like him in Psych (saw that repeat today online coincidentally), and etc., etc.
Anyways, great shirt memorial! I hope the proceeds go somewhere, though, or it's kind of tacky.
I would have bought this without the tear. The tear makes it all sad. It's like one of the tacky shirts people wear with Biggie and his dob and date and of death. Creepy and Morbid.
Also, when I see a shirt I think will piss off adder, it makes me read the comments more often...
His musical legacy hasn't died, and it never will. The man went wackadoodle long ago, but the music stands on its own merit. "Thriller" still thrills, "Black or White" still addresses the wrong of racism. "Who's Loving You" still has that incredible first note coming from the throat of a freakishly talented 10-year-old. Have you listened to "Human Nature" lately? Was beautiful the first time I heard it, will be beautiful forever.
Good call doing the bird instead of an image of some sort. First you have to choose which of his/her faces to use, then there is the issue of the creepiness factor of having MJ's face on your chest (lol)
Overall I think going with a symbol like this is much classier, will be worn more often, and will get more sales (god forbid, you all seem to Arrrgggh on anything that seems at all "commercial". this is a business, is it not? get over it)
Not 100% sure if I will get one, as it will prob. be something I would only wear for a while, plus I'm kinda broke lol
Okay, seriously teefury, I can't say h_a_t_e ??? This is getting ridiculous. Anyway, don't want to drive this off topic, this is another fight for another day.
I think this is great. Here's why. I can't stand MJ's music, and I REALLY can't stand MJ. What I can stand is his significance to music history. Like him or not, he is an International Icon. One of the greatest performers of all time. For history's sake, he deserves tribute. For his other stuff.... DAMNATION!
As far as TF's so called "Cash In"? Seriously. W-T-F? Are you loonies seriously calling TF out on this? You know how many people are printing up MJ tshirts right now to sell for $5 3 for $10 outside of the smuuuuuurf hospital right now?
*psst to everyone who said its the dead bird, you're wrong... The dead bird is the one that is upside down with an x on its eye. This one is upright and is just the teefury logo.
Bought.
I think its perfect, I wouldn't want any other MJ tribute shirt.
jayropedawg - "well eludingsun, that second part is the problem. a tribute as a teefury bird won't get the point across to more people because the bird is confusing to anyone not familiar with teefury. that's why more of us want something different."
I think maybe you're looking at it wrong. Because this little community we have are the only ones getting it, we are different. We can pay tribute with this shirt. Finding it funny all the wench slapping TF is getting yet everyone is still here. Why wouldn't you want a site you support to do well? It's kind of like hating your favorite band because they got signed and can live off of something other than stale pizza crust and warm beer.
I like the shirt.
The symbolism is ever present.
I think anyone who looked at the shirt could tell it's an MJ tribute.
I don't have to be a huge fan to say that he was a big, and important, part of music.
Great stuff TeeFury.
I am of the generation of the Jackson 5 and in fact, was in HS choir with Randy Jackson before they got yanked out of public schools when they got really big.
Reading these comments are making me very sad. No matter what your feelings about the man, he is a musical legend and deserves some respect. This is a fitting tribute by TeeFury. Personally, I wouldn't go around wearing a shirt with his face on it. But I would wear this. Who cares if anybody else knows what this shirt means. I do.
Oh, and I had Thriller on vinyl also hehehe. I just got rid of all my vinyl a few years ago. Now I wish I had kept them all.
I'm with razz...would have rather seen a Farrah shirt. Never liked MJ when he was "cool."
Do like the route TF took with this tribute, though. Wouldn't matter what they did, a few here woulda griped no matter what... Lurking through the comments nightly is getting pretty predictable with the same choir of whiners. At least no one has thrown out the obligatory dig on blank color.
Ok, woa. I know I'm not a fan of the shirt and don't understand the newfound respect for MJ, but let the record show I do NOT feel he SHOULD HAVE DIED as charlie325 seems to think.
I'm upset about the public's reaction, not the man himself.
I love this. It's subtle, yet obvious at the same time. Lovely.
Michael Jackson brought so much to the world of music. No matter what else he may have done wrong in his life, he should be remembered for the good he brought to the people of the generation, and the future generations proceeding it.
I had goosebumps when I first came in this page... Brilliant.
MJ was really my childhood hero... I just recently got all his songs again... And was really happy when he said he was going on tour again (and then found out it was London tour :()
He was the king of pop, and I will not be joking today. It is a black day (arrgh couldn't resist) indeed.
he is the last music icon that we will see in our lives think about do you think anyone will care if Justin Timberlake or that kayn west guy will be remembered like this I dont think so. its all about Elvis and now Michael Jackson rip you will be missed
wow! that was fast!!!
MJ was awesome and it is undeniable, I remember sitting around with my whole family watching the first release of thriller video. I turtlepoo my pants. If you lived through this guys good times you have to have nothing but respect for him.
Weird part is I was just listening to Alien Ant Farm's remake of "Smooth Criminal" on Thursday morning. I haven't played that mp3 in ages. smuuuuuurf my subconscious mind for knowing when people are going to die.
I don't typically buy bird shirts (though I got the sombrero teevil in the last mystery bag- SCORE)... and for once I will way disagree with Adder. In the past 10 years, I have had little respect for MJ the PERSON-- however, his music will live eternally. I mean, when prisoners across the world are reliving Thriller...
I remember... well, I don't REMEMBER, per say, but I am still told the stories of my parents wearing out the tape when I was little, because I would run around saying "beat it... beat it.." or "billie jean... billie jean...." and I was still in diapers. They had to play that old tape to put me to sleep at night.
Not since the death of Elvis... or the death of John Lennon (may he rest in peace) has the death of a musician taken over the media in this way.
That speaks volumes.
See, I think it is a good tribute shirt- It clearly says... "Teefury did this"... it isn't just another random tribute shirt with the same old images and ideas on it. Pretty neat to me.
Michael Jackson will be missed very much. I was looking forward to his tour and hoping he made a comeback, though I wouldn't be able to attend any of his shows. Whether or not anything that happened is true, he was a musical genius and I'm completely certain he was a great man to talk to, it's just the world didn't see that side. I don't cry for those who passed, people die every day and in the most respectful way, he was just a man (and I don't say that in any way other than, like all of us, he was a person who had his own problems, his own hobbies, his own pursuit of happiness). I can say though, that I got a bit tearful when I saw him talking about his tour, it's nice to see a celebrity that looks genuinely happy about that happiness of his fans.
I have to disagree with Monkeyinjacket though, Elton John and Billy Joel are still going on and when either of them parse, I don't even want to think about it. Elton John is the MAN, his music, his range of style...unmatchable. Much the same way Michael Jackson's music is.
This shirt, on first glance, looked horrible to me. It looked like a novelty, not great, but okay. Not exactly tasteful though. On second look, it's great. It's not putting a face to what we've lost, his music has no face. Great shirt TeeFury, I couldn't picture myself wearing it but as far as a tribute shirt goes, the picture and text thing is over done. A tribute deserves to be iconic, and that this is.
I was watching CNN and they had a plastic surgeon on that used to share his practice with the plastic surgeon that worked on Michael Jackson. He had a theory of why MJ did all the surgery and his theory was that Michael may have saw a resemblance of his father in the mirror. And because of his father he didn't have a childhood. Was an interesting theory.
I agree with Myztri. He was an icon of an era. Just like Lennon and Elvis.
I was 3 or 4 when Thiller came out and I was scared as tarnation of that video. But I too remember singing Beat It and Billy Jean. Good ol days of having fun as a kid.
is it just me or does stabler cake always have something negative to say. His music has never left your just to self absorbed to realize other people have different tastes.
lmfao, it's funny how you think your opinion matters. (you know who you are) Please don't chime in on Stem-cell, abortion, Yay marriage or euthanasia issues, as your crarse opinions will be invalid in other such discussions as well.
I thought only perfect people were allowed to judge others.
I like the shirt, as a tribute to the entertainer and a man who changed music and reinvented it on his own terms. He was a musical genius, and a flawed human being.
Didn't like him or his music.
Don't really care that he died.
Also, I don't really understand what the effing big deal is, since death is avoidable, right?
I rememeber having a red leather jacket and white glove, imitating Michael when I was very young....even though I'm not the biggest fan of him now and don't agree with most of the things he has done in the past years. I do believe he was a big musical inspiration and he will be missed.
I have to be honest... I will not remember michael jackson for his music, I will remember him for being an alleged child molester and a man who bleached his skin and got so many surgeries that he looked like a woman.
All there is to say is buy it if you like it dont buy it if you Arrrgggh it. Everyone has a right to their opinion but dont disrespect MJ a day after he died. Plus there will prob be a farah shirt soon too.
OFFTOPIC: what's the matter whith the teebirds shirts that like you so much!? i just don't get it.. it's PATETICCC LAMEEE BORINGGG ETC WHY WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO HAVE A SHIRT WHIT THAT?!?!?!?!?!
If you don't like the Teebird shirts nobody is forcing you to buy sheesh.
I'm not normally interested in the logo shirts myself but I'm making an exception today. It's a lovely subtle tribute that will remind me of an innocent childhood filled with awesome music and not the later allegations be they true or not. Mean at the time who DIDN'T start doing Thriller impressions?
I'm going to have to agree that this is probably the only classy way to make a tribute shirt. I've seen one other so far with just his picture and it's really tacky. This is subtle enough that fans will get it but not so over the top where you are walking around with "lol guyz im mournin MJ" on your shirt.
MJ was definitely a favorite of mine in terms of oldies music, as far as a tribute- i really love this shirt.. subtle is the only way to go with such a legend. i just wish i had a little more coinage in my coffers *tear*
The fact was that Michael Jackson was a man who was in desperate need of help for the last decade or so of his life. No one could reach the deeply disturbed individual because he surrounded himself with people who let him do whatever he wanted. What he wanted was to become a child again and live without the pain and responsibility of being an adult. That is why he got repeated plastic surgeries and why he surrounded himself with kids. He was a regressive drug addicted pedophile who spent millions of dollars daily on furniture and accessories while the world he sang about saving in the 80's continued to suffer. It was a sad, pathetic decline and the only people that should be truly upset are his loved ones that know what he could have been. This shirt just seems like blatant capitalism. I see what could have been the idea here, but putting your corporate logo up for sale wearing MJ's hat and crying misses the mark.
Like MJ or not, how many of us will leave such a mark on the world? Whatever his faults were, he now speaks to a higher order than anybody here can offer. His legacy, whatever history will remember of him, will live on.
As for the shirt, I am not a MJ fan of the man. His appearance seems to have put me off. But some of his music speaks you know. How can it be bad when somebody leaves such a powerful mark on the world? He changed much of what was and what will forever be in the music world. Upon his shoulders who knows where the future of music will take us, but without his shoulders to build from we might never accomplish what we otherwise might.
Rest in peace. Your time is done. Whatever faults he had, whatever he did or did not do is now between him and God.
yes. his music was without a doubt ground-breaking. but i can't ignore the way he lived...the way he treated people...the way he treated himself/herself....
i am not a fan of him. just because he was this great musician doesn't mean that he didn't deserve what was coming to him...
sure it's a great shirt. cute i guess...but not that touching.
Maybe I do say negative things often, but I'm a pessimist at heart, not going to lie. I'm sorry you feel I'm invalid because of this. I usually judge TF on an artistic basis and yes there have been times where I judged it on personal objections. I usually can find some positive to mention, but there is no positive in this choice.
I say positive things when I feel they're deserved. If I hated everything posted here, I wouldn't keep coming back and buying.
I didn't judge anyone here personaly. I judged the pandemonium going on around his death and find it to be shallow. The news channels are spammed with it. They didn't televise my nightly news show because they had to memorialize him at 1am.
I'm just livid that the life of a man who most would have dubbed a loon until he died is more important than the entire country of Iran or the tests North Korea plans to perform closer to Hawaii.
But let me be completely clear, I do not think he was MUSICALLY relevant at the time of his death, I DO think he was relevant as a PERSON. I have found in my random crawling over the internet that there are some who feel his death is a blessing. That's unfair and disrespectful. I have my opinion and feel it is a sound one, but at the same time will always respect anyone's right to exist as a human being. My opinion is against the public's reaction, not the man himself.
And yeah I know that was really long.
tl;dr - The negativity of my comments doesn't make me invalid.
memyself&I, i think even though you said 'i Arrrgggh being rude', you need to remember that there are better ways to say things, without being rude. i think we all understand what you were trying to say. but i am guessing, you didn't know mj in person, in which you would have know say in what would insult or not insult him. but i'm guessing, mj wouldn't be insulted at all. i think, even though i did not know him either, he'd be proud to know that people still care about him and his music, and to know people are saddened by his death. i also think, that he would be more insulted by people saying any tribute, especially his own, was 'LAME.'
Get over it stablercake, when one of the most famous people who has EVER LIVED dies, yeah, you're going to hear a LOT about it. If it interrupts a day of the usual news, boo-hoo, the world's not going to spin off it's axis because we don't have an Iran update. For all he contributed to our culture and our lives, he can get a day of news coverage when he dies.
Wow, I've only read a few of the comments and I can already tell that a bunch of you guys are complete smurf bags. If you don't like the shirt, don't complain about it "not being art", teefury isn't forcing you to buy anything so stop being a little b*tch. Don't voice your opinion if it's rude and unnecessary, because SOME of us happen to have grown up listening to Michael Jackson and appreciate that teefury went through the trouble of putting together this amazing tribute.
btw I love the moonwalking bird at the bottom of the page =D
Whether or not you like or dislike Michael Jackson, he was a human being.. and one who greatly influenced the Entertainment Industry for over 20 years now. He is, was, and always will be a legend. He's probably the only person to ever come close/reach the magnitude of Elvis actually. In fact, I don't think that any musician today will ever come close to Michael's success.
He led a hard life (molested/beat by his father). I expect someone who has lived in the limelight their whole life and gone through things such as that to be a bit disturbed. And so when it's all said and done:
Whether you like him or not, disturbed he may have been, he's human. We will never know, nor is there proof to the accusations of child molesting.
As Bob Marley once said,
Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect and I don't live to be. But, before you start pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean.
And John 8:7,
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
No one has the right to judge him. Horrible people for when you decide that you do.
When a famous person or celebrity you don't like dies, you just have to grit your teeth and bear the fallout.
I wanted to spit at the TV when they had all the pomp and circumstance and "he was such a great man" BS when a certain bobbleheaded former U.S. President died a few years ago, but I didn't. I just rented a bunch of movies and ignored the news and network TV for a solid week. A large percentage of the nation watched every possible moment of news coverage, from the first news of his death to the funeral and beyond.
When Tim Russert died suddenly last year, I watched the news because I liked and respected him as a newsman and as a person. I'm sure there were a lot of people who rented movies and purposely ignored his eulogies and tributes.
If you didn't like Michael Jackson, well, it's your turn to ignore the fuss and distract yourself. Sometimes that's all you can do.
Further more... If TeeFury wants to give a tribute they should donate all the money they make off this shirt to Micheal Jackson's family or favorite charity...
It would even help them to advertise more... Which seems to be all this shirt does.
just bc you have an opinion doesn't mean you have to say it. part of maturity is knowing when to agree to disagree. i doubt half of you would say any of the things you do to the faces of the artists or curators of this site and frankly, its a turn off for a lot of people.
thanks TF for doin something cool in such a short timeframe and jimmy that moonwalk is the hottness...your education was money well spent :)
Imagine being the dude or dudette scheduled to print here tonight before this shirt. And being told that hey, Michael Jackson is more important. You need to wait longer.
This is not a tribute. It is marketing off a tragedy. If it was a tribute, it would probably have taken more than 6 hours to put together.
If the "dude or dudette" who was scheduled to have their artwork appear here instead of the MJ tribute shirt had fallen short of your standards in any way, you would have made every effort to make them feel as bad as they probably feel at being bumped.
And just as a casual observation, this is a good dog:
Side note: I'm totally okay with Teefury "capitolizing" off of the death of this mega super star international icon figure. At least it's a small business who employs worthy artists making it so we can put shirts on our back.
Srzly... It's not like they have Jonbonet Ramsey up there ffs.
After reading the numerous comments left by everyone, I think many people are misunderstanding what a tribute is. And i feel like this tshirt does a wonderful job of using simple symbolism to honor a legend.

I Arrrgggh to be rude ever but this is just LAME.
FUDGE!
Yes. You know exactly how Michael Jackson would feel. Yes. Yes.
You have a Ouiji board!
I Arrrgggh it when people try to speak for dead people.
Maybe it's just one of your personalities..... :D
Me Myself and I. Seems maybe you have a few.
hehehe
Umm not for nothing but if he didnt sell a few million records people would be saying "Hey you know that pedophile who bleached his skin and now looks like a woman? Well he died. One less child molester in the world."
Just cause he can moonwalk and sing some high notes doesnt change how I feel.
I don't wish death on anyone, but I'm just unbelievably thankful that not one single child will ever be abused by that man again. I could care less what music he made 20 years ago. He was a predatory monster. Why in the world would I want a t-shirt suggesting otherwise?
It is clear to me that all Tee Fury is saying is that they mourn MJ's passing. I mourned him some time ago, when he became someone else. He was an amazing artist who transformed into a tortured soul destroying himself before our eyes. RIP.
I'm not new to this site but this is my first post, and I think a good way to start off.
Here's my opinion, love it or Arrrgggh it:
Michael Jackson was a spectacular dancer, wonderful singer, and AMAZING performer over-all. He may have done some things that could be frowned upon, but he is still a legend for what his impact on the entire music industry, actually, the entertainment industry as a whole. He deserves respect for this, as a musical icon, not a person. I'm not gonna act like I've been a huge fan of his, because I'm not, but I very well recognize all he's done, and you should too. As far as TeeFury trying to "cash in" with this tee, I think that's insane and unfair. TeeFury is paying their respects in the best way they know how, which is a meaningful-yet-creative fashion.
People, you should really lay off with the harshness. I'm sure TeeFury didn't intend to profit much off this design, or they would have just made a shirt EVERYONE wanted to get everyone to buy it.
TeeFury, you did your thing and in my opinion it's a great shirt for the purpose that you intended, not the one some people on this site try to dig out of it.
Thanks for your time reading this,
-J Mayle
@FuzzyLogic,
yes, I am not perfect and after coming home drunk last night the whole thing struck me wrong...
I am a very multifaceted human being... I think I was feeling insulted and I therefore projected...
I don't care if you think I am crazy. And if I am and you can't be compassionate about it... Well, there's nothing I can do about it.
So, have a nice day.
To everyone wanting something with his face on it or a more artistic tribute, this is what we would end up with: http://www.mspaintadventures.com/scraps2/MJ_farrah.jpg
Oh and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth that teefury is making profit off a freshly dead man. Like say, if you had a shirt with Chris Farley or John Belushi it wouldn't be as bad, but this is in the heat of the moment praying off the sadness of his fans.
Regardless of whether you liked him or not, he is, was, and will be an enduring world wide icon, a Legend. Those of us who grew up with his life in our peripheral vision through the power of mass media will no doubt recognize that his passing will leave some impact on us, even if it is only for a short time until the next big news. Be that his existence was so widely known, we understand there will be many opinions. Anger, sadness, apathy.

Man... now I'm all fired up.

I think its perfect, I wouldn't want any other MJ tribute shirt.
Fat Possomsaid 136 weeks ago
I think maybe you're looking at it wrong. Because this little community we have are the only ones getting it, we are different. We can pay tribute with this shirt. Finding it funny all the wench slapping TF is getting yet everyone is still here. Why wouldn't you want a site you support to do well? It's kind of like hating your favorite band because they got signed and can live off of something other than stale pizza crust and warm beer.
Gozzsaid 136 weeks ago
The symbolism is ever present.
I think anyone who looked at the shirt could tell it's an MJ tribute.
I don't have to be a huge fan to say that he was a big, and important, part of music.
Great stuff TeeFury.
RIP

Reading these comments are making me very sad. No matter what your feelings about the man, he is a musical legend and deserves some respect. This is a fitting tribute by TeeFury. Personally, I wouldn't go around wearing a shirt with his face on it. But I would wear this. Who cares if anybody else knows what this shirt means. I do.
Oh, and I had Thriller on vinyl also hehehe. I just got rid of all my vinyl a few years ago. Now I wish I had kept them all.

The King of Pop will be missed.

Thanks for your time reading this,
-J Mayle
