Teefury only tweets in English, but we're all about friendship too! - Teevil

    I like it!

Wow. That's some crazy cool stuff.

  • maxhersheysaid 146 weeks ago

What do the words actually say?
  • stablercakesaid 146 weeks ago

Artist has a really nice design sense, but I personally think super-Asian-inspired work is getting kind of tired.
  • omiz144said 146 weeks ago

I think I'll sleep on this one. I like the design, friendship motif might be a bit too corny though! XD
  • mrjuliansaid 146 weeks ago

The combination of the two characters would be translated as "the ties of friendship," which the artist has cleverly written out as the vertical line separating the two figures.
  • scmcverrysaid 146 weeks ago

Stablercake, you do realize the artist is Asian? Hong Kong, hence the Chinese characters.

i have to agree with everything you just said.

    .... just noticed something though
is it just me or are they thumb wrestling?
  • godzillasaid 146 weeks ago

stablercake, what DO you like in a tee design?

    just curious.
  • joiewasheresaid 146 weeks ago

I think I like it. I'm not sure.

    It's pretty stereotypical though.
  • Toonstarsaid 146 weeks ago

haha nice, two samurai's in love.
  • Someonesaid 146 weeks ago

    1 2 3 4 I declare thumb war!
  • CPUT99said 146 weeks ago

The red characters on the olive really pop out which looks pretty groovy but I happen to sit on the side of the fence that is hesitant to sport something in Kanji (or is it another scteefurycopy?) -despite knowing what this particular set means...

    Anyway, blablabla.
  • kgvectsaid 146 weeks ago

This shirt isn't stereotypical at all. Its a new concept as far as I know. How many themed shirts like this do you see with friendship or anything like that? I like it. I'm definitely grabbing this one.
  • laurellingsaid 146 weeks ago

Not thumb wrestling. Their thumbs are cut and pressing on each other's thumb when the blood is running. That's the way to swear for your friendship with each other in the culture.

The design and idea is really cool. Appreciate the artist being inspired by his own culture and incorporating his root into the design.
  • joiewasheresaid 146 weeks ago

You really think it's not stereotypical?

I guess I just wish there were more cool designs repped by Asian designers that have nothing to do with Asian culture.

You're right though - concept is pretty new.
  • ruinsofspacestationssaid 146 weeks ago

    haha ^that is stereotypical^
  • xylotismsaid 146 weeks ago

Another instance where I'd like to see the finished shirt. The guy's coloring looks like the only thing you can see is the red characters [which actually would look cool on their own]...

Eh, I dunno. Probably gonna pass. Not bad though, not bad at all.
  • tPsaid 146 weeks ago

Love those shirt colors. More olive green please. . .:) If the samurais weren't holding hands, I would probably get this one, but oh well.
  • indieviksaid 146 weeks ago

@laurelling Thanks for the explanation. If I hadn't read your post I would've thought that the samurai were thumb wrestling, too.

If I were a bigger fan of the teefury blanks, I'd probably buy this one--love the colors.
  • Reijnsaid 146 weeks ago

    i'm digging it.

I'm also digging the Buddy Holly glasses as the artist's icon.

@ indievik and tP: those are not samurai. Those are Chinese warriors and not Japanese warlords. >

  • AhemAhemsaid 146 weeks ago

i really like the colors in this. great job!

As soon as the EFT hits my account, it's mine! I do like the women's color better though- Would it be possible to ever get two colors for each sex?
  • stablercakesaid 146 weeks ago

    @godzilla

Hahaha, I know, seems like every day I have SOMETHING NEGATIVE to say about the shirt. Annoyingly (for myself and others) I have really specific tastes. :\

    @scmcverry

I understand where the inspiration comes from and I applaud him for sticking to his roots, but as an American taking things at face value, I feel like I've seen shirts of this type before. I'm not saying it's not legitimate art, it is, I'm just saying in my experience it's a little played out.
  • Tuismsaid 146 weeks ago

    @stablercake/spock

Everyone has specific tastes :) The day one tee pleases everyone is the day... Jesuzilla walk the earth!

I do like the characters, but being asian myself (specific case in point), I don't really like to wear mandarin characters. And yeah the guys colours are reaaaaally difficult to make out.

I'm loving the variety in styles around here parts though, yay :)
  • mlonierosaid 146 weeks ago

I thought I was looking at TeeFury- not Wal-Mart.
  • mlonierosaid 146 weeks ago

Designs on the right are good, though!
  • AirHendrixsaid 146 weeks ago

Nice design. I'll see if I want to get this. I already have a Japan flavored shirt from this site "Lord of Cats" but maybe a Chinese one might fit into the collection.

Though the grimacing soldiers embraced through the hands of friendship is somewhat a new image for me. I wouldn't have expected that as a sign of friendship.

Very good idea. I'll see if my mom likes it so she can buy it for me lol.
  • AirHendrixsaid 146 weeks ago

I don't think those are Samurais. They look more like Chinese warlords.

Though they remind me of the late late late Mongol ruler, Genghis Khan lol.
  • AirHendrixsaid 146 weeks ago

They should have had alternate outline colors.

Aka the guy on the right would be highlighted in light orange or possible white with the same color for text.

Though maybe the red color scheme on both men make them unified as "friends".

I'll see if I want to purchase this one. Not bad, Teefury. Nice job on curating this.
  • silruinsaid 146 weeks ago

@laurelling: That sounds like a really great way to spread AIDS.

Oh, but yeah, shirt... agree that Asian theme is old, but like the theme of friendship. Colors are a bit to muddy for me, though. I like some of his other works - second on the side would be a nice wall hanging. Fourth would be a freaking awesome shirt.
  • Ghafooksaid 146 weeks ago

They are not samurai. They are chinese warriors. They are not holding nunchucks. They are holding swords with tassles at the end. There are two chinese characters, the large one on the left means love and the large one on the right means brotherhood. They are holding hands to signify these two meanings.
  • wringzsaid 146 weeks ago

Really like the original color scheme. Probably a White Tee I'd actually buy if it was made! :D
  • Renaesaid 146 weeks ago

The design is awesome, but I need to agree with Fuzzy on the color scheme.
I can't stand military green. Even if the design was absolutely amazing, I just couldn't buy it if it was on that green...
  • neonixsaid 146 weeks ago

I agree with Fuzzy as well. I probably would have been sold on a white or even a silver/gray tee. But olive is ehhh..

If I ever see Wally World selling a Tshirt with 2 masculine, Asian Men holding hands, I'll buy 10 of them.
  • mstreitersaid 146 weeks ago

Love the colors. Love the design. Would have bought for sure but not really into hand-holding samurais even though I absolutely understand the meaning behind it is platonic. Just a bit much for this hetero. LOL
  • Muntoesaid 146 weeks ago

Gotta admit this one is pretty beastly, definitely going to have to think about it...
  • avpma2p5said 146 weeks ago

Love the design!! I have a stupid question to ask so please be patient with me cause I'm new... Uh.. my brother wants to know how he can get some of his designs up?
  • saturninesaid 146 weeks ago

Wow, is that men's shirt dark! Not sure on this one. Very different theme though. I find it amusing that people are critical of an "Asian" design conceived by a Chinese designer... Would you rather he he/she designed a shirt referencing pop culture or brandishing a skull?

That Mao design is intriguing. Can anyone tell me what the characters mean? I could sure confuse the pokemon out of people by wearing that one (assuming the caption is critical of him).
  • saturninesaid 146 weeks ago

So H.e.double hockey sticks = pokemon, eh? What a canny substitution.

avpma2p5, designers can email TeeFury's curators with their work if they'd like to be considered for printing.
  • melbelsaid 146 weeks ago

how do you know they arent thumb wrestling?
  • leastsaid 146 weeks ago

I like the design a lot, but I'm never really comfortable with wearing Asian-inspired designs as I am so incredibly white.
  • laurellingsaid 146 weeks ago

    Maybe they are thumb wrestling!!

All my understanding/explanation is based on my cultural root and I believe that's where the artist got it from. If I'm assuming it right, the artist was inspired by one of our historical story about Chinese warlords called "San Guo Yan Yi". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Guo_Yan_Yi
  • thejakeyl88said 146 weeks ago

The flood of idiots that come out every single night astounds me. Same stupid walmart or "not original" bologna. Or maybe I'm just looking through the same exact page of comments every single night? Because I see no diversity in what people are saying, it never changes, and never will. If you are going to be negative, or going to try to be the cool hater who must see something we all missed, then do it in an original way. Also, everything Asian, no matter how different will look the same to you, if you were Asian you'd see the differences in art. Guarantee you the things you like, Asians would see repetitive, stereotypical uninspiring art, just the same as you do theirs.
  • cardinalgoldsteinsaid 146 weeks ago

The warriors may be holding hands, but they aren't gazing into each other's eyes. I fear their love is shallow.
  • avpma2p5said 146 weeks ago

    MJ thank you :)
  • FuzzyLogicsaid 146 weeks ago

I could never get tired if Asian inspired art. I'm covered with it. :D
I love it. I collect it. It's all over my house [With lots of many other types of art I'm interested in].

I hate blank walls. That reminds me. Time to go hunting for frames
and get some of this stuff put up on the walls!

    @Jakey.
You're reading the same comments day after day.
Even the one you just posted. :D

None of us are real. These are fake TeeFury accounts used to
    lure people to the site.

    Marbles in my scrambled eggs.

Seem bro-mance is alive & well in every culture. Quick check of the FederalReserve acct and I'm in for 1.
  • stoweawaysaid 146 weeks ago

Bwhahaha! TeeFury thinks I pay for my shirts out of the FederalReserve. Now that's putting stimulus money to good use.
  • kab74said 146 weeks ago

Are they thumb-warring? Because if they are, that would make me really happy.
  • Anonymoussaid 146 weeks ago

Awesome design, and even better to know it was made by a person who is actually Chinese, but, it's just not my style.
