Don't Stop the Beat
About the artist
Words from the curator:
Don't you dare!
Tell us about this design:
This design started out as nothing more than an experiment in illustrator. I was playing around with some type, no words in particular just some random letters, when I was reminded of the Junior Senior video, Move Your Feet, which I had only just discovered the day before. A few hours later I found myself with the design you see here.
Tell us about yourself.
I’ve twice awoken in the middle of the night from a nightmare I found so frightening that it left me in a cold sweat. One involved a rainbow, and the other involved a midget, dressed as a cowboy, who was hiding in my bushes with a TV remote.
I live in sunny San Diego, yet I don’t own a pair of shorts, and I swear like a sailor when I’m driving.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Art (of course), brewing my own beer, and playing softball. I also like plants. Someday I want to create my own topiary garden.
What inspires you?
I really like old comics and children’s books, especially Little Golden Books - Artist like (to name just a few) Hank Ketcham, Charles Schulz, George Herriman, Walt Kelly, Edmond Kiraz, Mel Crawford, and Mary Blair.
What would be your dream job?
Any job that would incorporate everything I listed under “Name a few of your favorite things,” which I guess would make for a really strange job. Haha.
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was
there a specific title you liked most of all?
I guess it was cartoons. I watched a lot of television growing up, and still do. I watched a lot of He-Man, GI Joe, and then Ren & Stimpy when I got a little older.
