    The designs don't look anything alike, and how do you know the other ones were made before his, your assuming, not showing any facts what so ever other than a picture and acting all high and mighty about how its already been done.

    this shirt has a completely different feel then the one you showed, the line work on the ampersand its different, and much more outlined, let alone and instead of the symbol.

    uhh lets see... if i already own this shirt... it was obviously printed before this one. thats kinda common sense.

    and IN MY OPINION they are extremely similar... they are both ampersands with "and" inside of them... except this one is spelled out.

    you need to smoke a joint or something, there is no need to jump down someones throat it is a tshirt website, we arent debating the war or abortion. Take it down a notch.

    melbel, I think what he is trying to say is that we have no way of knowing which was designed first.

    Personally, I see them as being pretty different thematically (though similar in construction). The one you linked is about how ampersands look, this one is about what ampersands ARE, to me anyway.

    Mj--> No I understand what you are both saying... all im saying is how many ampersand shirts can you own? I just think like... when I do my designs and my paintings... I google stuff to see if there is something like it... I dont want any of my art to look like someone elses.. its supposed to be original.. and I just see it as & means and... so its the sam idea but instead if & it says and. It is just my opinion, Im not asking for anyone to agree with me, I thought that was the point of posting comments... to express our opinions. I have already said that I enjoy the side work and I checked out the portfolio.. Its great... but this is just my opinion on the shirt.

    mel, apparently you don't know how designs work, they arn't designed and put up the day of. The design could have been in a portfolio from before, therefore, this guy could have designed it before and just had it printed now, and yours just happened to get printed then, there really is no way of knowing, i was just point that out, you say don't get down my throat about me jumping down someones throat and then you do it right back.

    So next time you say someone lacks common sense, make sure you know what your talking about, or what they are really saying

Just like I told MJ.... the shirt had already been printed... whether it was designed first or not... it had already been printed. I do know how designs work... I went to college for it. My mother is vp of a printing company. I know how designs work and I know that it doesnt do any good sitting in a portfolio.

    Navy is pretty dark, the color you see above is pretty dependent on how your monitor brightness is set I think.

    melbel, I,m happy that you have an opinion. But studying in graphic design doesn't make you an automatic designer.

    I'm bilingual, my first native language is french. While doing this design I learned that this symbol in english was called "amperstamp" for me in french it's "et". Simple. So I'm sorry I haven't seen the other design you've shown. But still, I believe this one is different.

    I guess this one is more for typo lover, and I love typo.

    ...For the love of buggery, it's an AMPERSAND. You cannot copyright an ampersand, and having looked at both designs, the only similarity is that it's an ampersand with the word or symbol for "and" inside. The excecution is different, the quality is different, the overall design is different. Similar in idea, but different in final product.

    I have seen more ampersands that I thought I ever would in the past year alone. We had some design studio come and visit the college with a studio based on ampersands, I have a poster of an ampersand on my wall, I did an entire project on bloody ampersands. Y'seeing where I'm going here? In that it really, REALLY wouldn't be that farfectched to imagine that two people had similar ideas, considering I am nearly smuuuuuurf certain that one or three of my thumbnails for my own typography project was an ampersand made out of words (though, words about visual communications rather than "and".)

    I personally like this shirt. I'm really digging the handdrawn lettering in the middle of the bold outline. Not made into the banana colour though, it does nothing for me and is a seriously difficult hue to pull off. I don't see why the neutral navy couldn't have worked for the girl's shirt too :c But I will be thinking this over, certainly!

    I like how Jimiyo described this design as "Easy, clean and simple" - and this comment page is anything but! Yikes! I'd like to say don't people have anything better to do than come on here and keep posting nasty replies to each other, but then again, I just spent about 10 minutes reading them all, so I won't cast the first stone. No one knows anyone else here personally, so I would support everyone in not making assumptions about other people who have posted here. : )
    That being said, I like the design, but like Nekophoenix, I'm not sure I can pull the Banana off. I'm kinda wishing I bought the ampersand t-shirt a month or two ago that CPUT99 reposted - I seriously considered getting that one, and I think I might be able to pull it off better. But RecycledWax, I think your designs rock! You got talent man - and I don't think anyone on this website has made a shameless plug by sharing their designs with the teefury world.

    CPTU, that's a completely different shirt, just because they both contain an ampersand. That's like comparing Optimus Prime to Marvin the Paranoid Android and saying make Marvin square, red and tall and you've got Optimus because they're both robots. It's just silly. Like Nekopheonix said, similar concept, very different outcome and actually I much prefer this one!

    Star wolf is awesome, under the bed is very original, I actually own the drummer, I love that raccoon! Even the work on the side is all original and great looking. As for the featured work, I have to agree with Mel. Sure the shirt is different in it's own way, but I feel like I've already seen this shirt dozens of times because there are already dozens of the same ampersand with something inside of it type of shirts out there. This doesn't mean the artist did a poor job at all, all the line work is amazing. I just think that everyone who already has an ampersand shirt, would rather see something more original featured for the day. I don't normally post anything, but no one seemed to have Mel's back here and she said exactly what I thought right off the bat hehe

    I am really surprised and angry that my previous post was deleted. It wasn't defamatory, I didn't call anyone pejorative names, I merely stated my opinion. Here it is again:

    I'm with MelBel in that I come here for original shirts and this is another example of the exact opposite. Along with yesterday's shirt.woot reprint, the pop culture car shirt that was a reprint, all of the traced Olechka designs, and the Dead Inside shirt. I am disappointed in the lack of originality.

    If you delete this post again, I would like an explanation as to why.

    Some people like ampersands on shirts. Some people like animals. Some people like skulls. Some people like jokes. For each of these categories, there are also people who would never wear anything like that. And people who would wear one shirt. And people who want a dozen.

    Be respectful. "Unoriginal" is very different from "a shirt I don't want to buy" and some of you are getting dangerously close to insulting the artist.

    This is not something I would want to buy. However, I am a big fan of RecycledWax most of the time.

    Both of those facts aside, as MelBel pointed out, this shirt is dangerously close to being like another shirt that has already been printed. My disappointment is not necessarily with the artist because as others have pointed out, we don't know which shirt was designed first. I'm not saying RW copied this shirt at all, and I don't think MelBel did either. However, the fact that a similar shirt already exists causes me to be disappointed in Teefury. This is not even close to the first time that a shirt that is similar to (or the exact same as!) shirts/art that already exist has been printed here.

    Okay... so this is going to be my last comment (hopefully :) ) All i want to say is that I wasnt trying to attack anyone and what kyle is saying is spot on with what I was trying to say... he just said it better. haha. But I have to be honest that I got more aggrivated with RW's response than any other response I got... for the pure fact that an artist is supposed to take criticism. I wasnt trying to be hurtful and I even said a few times that I really liked the side work and the portfolio... but then when he said, "But studying in graphic design doesn't make you an automatic designer." Since he doesnt know anything about me it just seemed like a really low blow from one "artist" to another.

    MJ I know you are just doing your job and I agree with you that this should be a place where people can give their comments but not be rude or cruel, but I think we all also feel that it should be a place where we can give our opinions without being attacked, I know after this tshirt I am going to think twice before I comment on something.

    Kyle, I know that you and a handful of others see these designs as very similar. But a lot of people, including many designers and commenters here, feel differently.

    I'm attracted to this design because I love hand-drawn type. The Etsy example doesn't interest me at all because I'm not inherently a huge ampersand fan.

    To me, this is more like two people drew a shirt with a tiger. Each used a different drawing method (let's say colored pencil and charcoal), but since most tigers look alike some similarities are shared. People who don't care for tigers won't want either shirt, and might even be upset that more tiger shirts are being made. People who love tigers might want both. And people with a strong preference for charcoal or colored pencil might pick up a tee too, despite not having strong feelings about tigers. I think we can agree that even though the subject matter is pretty similar, that doesn't mean both shirts can't exist and that both shirts can't target different audiences.

    I'm not an ampersand-loving person, but I'm a big fan of RecycledWax's designs, owning three of his shirts (Star Wolf, Coffee Cloud and Under my Bed) and seriously thinking of buying the Drummer one too. (looking forward to buy The Expedition somewhere too.)

    As for this shirt ... the whole Ampersand is not really for me. I think it's done well though. Though for some reason I keep thinking it looks like they went to Ampersand University or something. Like some college tee. Although I will definitely be on the lookout for RW's work as I like his side stuff. Wish I would've gotten one of those "under my bed" tees before the sizes ran out. Bummer.

    I seriously need some help with my pad and paintshop skills.
    Rediculous.
    I spent 3 nights trying to come up with an idea, got 3, stuck with one and it turned out like charmeleon because I don't know how to use my paint programs that well.

    I bought the tablet over a year ago, and like many new art supplies and formats, I just never get around to doing much with them. I always feel bogged down by something else.

    Time to forget other hobbies and try to concentrate.
    I've lost so much ability. It's sad.
    But on a happy note, I'm makin' my own chili cheese burritos for dinner. Homemade steak chili too.

    @CPUT99 I know if you don't buy it I'm seriously tempted to buy it. I love the feel of it. I'm not pro Nazi or something dumb but I love how it feels like it's just right out of the 40's. Like the way the banners are in the back are exactly how they would've looked. I too am curious as to where the other dictators are.

    the shirt is boring and yellow, not at all up to par with the sidework. now that I would wear!! It looks like you have your own awesome style, grab on and go with it.

    Does Recycled Wax, aside from this shirt, remind any one else of Wotto? I think they have a similar, cartoony, fluid, style. Maybe it's just me.

    He's sort of for sale, but I was going to hold out and sell him and the other 5 dictators as a set for 2 grand or something, but it doesn't seem likely that any one person would buy. The flickr to see them all is RIGHT HERE. I don't have them all on my website because they don't have the same feel as the newer work in my portfolio.
