Glad I can take a break from buying, seems teefury always comes up with at least 1 really good shirt a week. Still, this is a better print than a shirt for me.
It's cute, and I'd totally wear it, but the quality on the preview looks a little shakey, crunchy more like MSpaint than a quality vector/illustration. Could just be the image?
wow this is almost as bad as that bird hunting guy shirt... this and most of the illustrations on this persons portfolio look rushed and... well for lack of a better word... amateurish... just look at the white dog, its all out of proportion.

i agree and no thats what every thing looks like in this artists Portfolio
It could be the hour at hand or just me being an indirect jerk but:
Yawn.
I really don't have anything positive to say about this shirt, I'm sorry... I suppose "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all" which is somewhat what I'm trying to do... but... I don't get the joke, don't see the humor (call me ignorant) nor do I see this as being anything more than an average illustration placed upon the predictable horizon line of a tshirt (the boobies)
Hmm I like the concept of it, but It isn't something I would wear on a tee. Maybe a design with more to say on it. Sry I'll have to pass on this one. :\
I don't think this artist is quite ready for this sort of thing. This design and the portfolio work is still pretty amateurish and not quite there yet. Keep developing, though -- you'll get there soon.
I must say that I, as well, am mystified by this choice of artist. She is far from ready for commercial work if what we see here is any indication. Not to be a krabby, I think she needs to practice her drawing skills much more before she's ready.
And the idea is kind of lame, to be honest. Nipper has been used as the logo for UK company HMV for like 100+ years, so we've seen about a billion parodies of it. It's something you see in tourist shops: shirts with Nipper staring down a pint of beer with some "clever" slogan about getting drunk on vacation. Could be a euro thing, I guess.
Not really sure if it's amateurish. Don't know if that's a word either. Anyhow, it could just be her drawing style. Some people have their own unique style. Kinda reminds me of someone drawing that old Doug cartoon except combined with the movie cartoon Heavy Metal. I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore. Lol! Oh well.
Nice idea, but the art is a little spotty. ie: some of the lines are out of place - unnecessary, like on the knee joint of the dog to the left, it's chest, it's left leg looks mangled, or the huge line circling Nipper's backside separating his top half from his bottom. Overall I'd give it a little more work, mainly just erase a few lines.
Thats what I was thinking... Like maybe thats the style.. because she even says, "I think a lot of my drawings could be the encyclopedia or dictionary illustrations tucked into the margins that make you take a second look because there's something that isn't quite right. They get the point across but they aren't masterpieces." So I think she knows she isnt perfect but liked the art the way it is.... do i like it on a shirt? not so much? Could I see it as a weird birthday card or post card.. I guess so.
Kind of reminds me how one of my friends has an art illustration degree and he always comments on how much he likes the drawing style of my other friend. The other friend only draws once in a while for fun but he definitely has his own unique style to him. His is very different in it's own way yet still good.
I hadn't seen that in the interview section =X "I think a lot of my drawings could be the encyclopedia or dictionary illustrations tucked into the margins that make you take a second look because there's something that isn't quite right. They get the point across but they aren't masterpieces."
Which makes me respect/value the work a lot more. *nod nod*
My first TeeFury purchase and made all the more poetic by the fact that not only is it an amusing shirt I like, but I actually work for HMV who have Nipper The Dog peering into the gramophone as part of their old corporate logo - so more commonly associated with HMV in the UK than RCA.
i like the idea, I dig the style,
(cos I do think it's a style, if only the rest of her portfolio is "tighter")
But I do see where everyone's coming from. Practice practice practice, make more stuff and make the style more consistent - it'll help immensely for street cred :)
Nice idea but not very well executed. If you do art as a hobby, I believe you should give yourself a bit more time to present more color in your pieces.
The bird taking off artwork on the side is cool. The others... Well, they're not great for T-shirts lol.
First of all I think you are uneducated for calling something Rikered, on top of that you didnt even spell it correctly. Get some class. Second of all if Macs are the worst computers in the world then why are some of the top IT companies using it? Nvidia uses nothing but macs.. I think you maybe are just not smart enough to be using them. Feel free to continue playing World of Warcraft on your PC in your mothers basement.
But a lot of companies that need networking use PCs because they're easier to network. Sorry to say, but unless it's a graphic design or other art-type firm, there's absolutely no reason for a company to be furnished with Macs.
Also, Macs totally sock for gaming. TOTALLY. sock. FOR GAMING. I can't even play Spore on my not that old Mac because my graphics card isn't made of pixie dust and angel farts.
I'm on a Mac and am in love with it and would never change for anything since I've had a few PCs in the past that fail after 6 months unless I spend a ton more money on useless virus rattata, but they're worthless for what offices and gamers use them for.
I have a Mac because I'm an artist and I'd recommend a Mac to anyone who is only using it for like word processing and internet, but finances/networking and gaming is easier and more functional on PCs.
I play Spore on my Mac and it works perfectly fine so Im not sure whats going on with yours... And Nvidia isnt even close to being a art type firm. I lived in Silicon Valley where all the major IT companies are and I know a good percentage of them all used macs. Every PC I have used is it a piece of charmeleon, they freeze all the time not to mention worrying about viruses. My father runs a whole business completely on macs. As long as you know how to use them you can do anything with them.
And I wasnt trying to come off as a biotch in that post but anyone who knows anyone with mental disabilities knows that it is horrible to call something "Rikered". People are so uneducated about things like that and it is just sad. Saying that to someone with a disability is like calling a wigglytuff person the "f" word. Maybe it was okay 30 years ago but it isnt anymore.
You realize they make many PC products, yeah? Actually, a majority of their products are for the PC platform. It's not possible for them to create those PC products on a Mac, so clearly the PC departments run on PC's to have the proper environment for their own products. I don't know how you could NOT realize this... Perhaps their accounting and marketing departments run on Macs, but there's no logical way they could possibly be "using nothing but macs."
And as a side note, the good old "PC's are good for games and Mac's are necessary for graphics design" was true in the 90's, but not so much anymore. Both platforms can handle graphics well, and a maxed-out customized PC would actually be far stronger with graphic design than the most powerful Mac. Simply because the PC scene allows you to configure whichever machine you want, which is not possible with Apple. (Being able to pick which HDD size you get when you buy a Macbook does not count.)
I laughed, I cried, I wound up the gramophone and played it again.
Tell us about this design:
It's a play on Nipper, the RCA dog who looked quizzically into a gramophone that played "his master's voice." I drew it with the P.D. Eastman children's book "Are you my mother?" in mind; the RCA dog was searching for his master and came up short again. I thought the e collar was a nice parallel to the gramophone. I realized later that the picture could also be read as a lost opportunity after a certain procedure at the veterinarian's office.
What do you want Teefury fans to know?
I love t-shirts! You might have seen my drawings kicking around as submissions on threadless or illustrations on daytrotter.com for a little while, but I've been quiet lately.
How did you get into art?
Both of my parents are really good artists. My dad has always painted and drawn in an abstract style. My mom is an engineer and her drawing is technical and very precise. I like technical and realistically detailed drawing but I also like that I have the power to decide when something is finished. I think a lot of my drawings could be the encyclopedia or dictionary illustrations tucked into the margins that make you take a second look because there's something that isn't quite right. They get the point across but they aren't masterpieces. I think that my affinity for that style relates to a sort of documentary or preservation motivation I have that also fuels my interest in photography. I carry a camera with me all the time and I got in the habit of photographing birds eating strange food people leave behind. Birds are so quick and those moments are fleeting. I'm compelled to document and collect things.
Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years with your art career or other?
Right now there isn't any pressure on my art. It's a hobby. I like having deadlines for projects because it helps me to focus but I don't really have anyone to answer to. Sometimes I think that if I tried to turn it into even a part-time career all the business and competition would kill the enjoyment of creating. It's nice to have my skills recognized and appreciated on a certain level but I've never been in a position where people are paying me for my art work. Maybe it's because I've never asked. Hopefully I'll build up my confidence and be able to get more illustrations further than my sketchbook.
MAC or PC?
I've developed a PC sensitivity, but I'm loyal to my MAC. I use a PC at work and I've realized I truly am in the minority as a MAC user.
