His face is very unusually proportioned, but I like it. (: And I'm digging those dreads. I'll have to sleep on the idea of buying it! But overall, I really do love this. Wonderful job!
I really do enjoy this design, and I've always been quite the Marley fan. However I do not like the positioning on the woman's shirt. I'll have to think about.
i love your caricatures! too bad i'm not a huge marley fan :\ i would feel like a poser wearing it :P
honestly (and i know i'm going to get dogged for this) when i saw the mj tribute yesterday, all i could think was "man, i wish mcquien would do a caricature of mj. i would buy 10." kind of ironic that you were the next artist to be up :P
i think the last few weeks have been teefury's notsogreat depression. the last few days have been a slow comeup, and this is just another little dip but i'm still hopeful. the goodies will come back soon...
i thought it was supposed to be marley... but i will admit i have a terrible time distinguishing his characterizations at all. i must look at peoples faces in a vastly different way or something.
Ugh I must have messed up the tag or something in my last post. I'll skip the tags this time so I don't break my post, though the preview was fine before. It looks like a caricature based on this picture: http://spicewriter.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/bob-marley.jpg
Was there a #2 in the series or did the Obama shirt take its place? I've got 1, 3 and 4, but don't recall seeing a 2. Keep up the great work Randy.
I think the furybird should be listening to Three Little Birds right now instead of doing the moonwalk. Now back to listening to my best of Marley tunes. Maybe it will calm me down from the realization that Teefury is trying to rock my wallet dry.
For those who are saying its not marley, compare to the image here:
http://ccdob.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/bob-marley.jpg
Great caricature, you are very tallented.
definite buy
Marley to me gives off a peaceful, hippy vibe.
This gives off a creppy, not-so-cool vibe.
Sorry, but no sale.
[haha Toonstar, I totally agree, their censorship is getting a little ridiculous. actually sent in an email about that, because apparently you cannot say h_a_t_e, as it turns it in to "Arrrggghh"]
I seem to have the opposite problem from everyone else, I love the art (not creepy at all to me and I can't figure out why everyone keeps saying that) I love the warped perspective, I'm just not a big Bob Marley fan.
Also, who the frick ever claimed this wasn't bob marley? It's called popular music and it has a classic picture of bob marley laughing on it. What other POPULAR artist has 2 foot dreads?
oh btw, that owl tattoo is so awesome!
I too have been designed a tattoo for a long time but i keep changing my mind so I still haven't got my first one yet.
Lovely illustraion, if I were more a marly fan I'd be all over it, but I'd also have bought that owl-tattoo on a t in a heartbeat X3, that or Gaiman :D great work!
@HeyReputah, no need to attack anyone man. its just a picture.
whhitt can express herself anyway she likes, if you're offended by it then sure raise an issue but no need to vaunt at her lack of clbadonkadonk. just let it be.
If I could select one person to never make another shirt ever again, Randy McQuien Jr. would be on the shortlist.
THIS IS NOT A SHIRT. It is a passable caricature, but it is not a shirt. And once again, it is a blatant moneygrab. Gee, let's slap someone famous on a shirt AGAIN and see if their scads of fans buy one!
Why don't people understand this? Oh right, because it brings in money. If you the fan want it, it must be good. Money is the only measure of quality.
Seriously, even woot has been more creative than Teefury lately. What does that say?
While it's a great illustration/caricature (the texture work is awesome) I could never wear this as a shirt. He looks like Zombie Bob, rising out of the grave, all dirty. No offense to those who dig his music or message (as do I) but I could never own this as a shirt, which is why... I guess... I won't.
Why do people say things like "x place is a business" like that somehow makes it OK for them to not care about their product.
That's like saying that it's OK that a restaurant sells frozen, overprocessed food. It's a business. It doesn't need to care about quality.
Or if you go into a store looking for the newest CD by some band, only to find they don't have anything more diverse than Miley Cyrus. It's OK! They are a business!
A good business sells work that they can feel proud of. A bad business sells anything that will turn them a profit. When your business is also AN ARTISTIC COMMUNITY, you should have standards that correlate.
It's cute that there's such an outrage about the selection of t-shirts at a website. I don't know about other people, but when I don't like the product I take my money elsewhere. Not everything can be to our liking.
Well put thestray. I don't understand the constant whining, if you don't like it don't buy it. If you are that unhappy with how these shirt sites are run, how about spending all the time wasted on whining and using it to start your own site.
Randy has consistently been one of our favorite artists. Actually, he was one of the first big successes. It's almost as if Teefury and Mr McQuien Jr are growing up together! I gotta feeling this shirt is gonna be alot of people's new fave. It's a happy shirt ain't it?
There's been some major changes in your life recently, give us an update. What's the master plan?
I made a 180degree turn about a month ago. Everything has changed. All I can say is, I don't have a master plan. I'm sort of winging it and it's a little scary, but what I've seen from friends and colleagues is that if someone is determined and is 110% committed to following their dream they'll succeed or at the very least be happy that they are doing something they love (cheesy but true). I know I have a lot to learn and have a long way to go. I just want to do my best.
Has Teefury helped you get any commissions or exposure?
The exposure has been great. All of the emails that I'm still receiving from other artists and loyal fans of Teefury has been overwhelming. Thank you. You've given me the confidence to attempt other online design and t-shirt contests and I've actually placed on several. As for commissions, there is now a waiting list. I'm drawing all of the time. It's Awesome.
You recently got a tattoo? Pictures? Getting any more tattoos? Is it as addictive as they say?
I did, I do, I will, and it is addictive. It took me about four years of designing and deciding to get the first one and about four minutes to decide to get the second. I'm already working on a half sleeve design. I like birds.
Any shout outs?
Jimi, Thank You. Teefury, Everyone who buys tshirts, my Parents, friends back in Nashville, and John English for helping me with the Illustration Academy.
