Third up in the BRC series is Ste7en Lefcourt. Ste7en has been on Teefury before, way back in the beginning so it's great to see his return. Ste7en is a truely skilled designer. He has skills in all areas of T-shirt design and this tee demonstrates that beautifully. Don't like white tees? Don't like shapes that shift? It's time to wake up and smell the awesome. Ste7en, welcome back.
First of all how did you enter the circle of awesome known as the Black Rock Collective?
Back in those days BRC was still relatively small. An awesomely nice guy, and all around great artist named Leon Ryan invited me in. Its really that boring.
Tell us a little bit about your ‘BRC series’ design.
Shapeshift is a design/concept I came up with while bored at my other part time job. I wanted to do something both iconic and animated. Being iconic, however, is something no artist can plan, but there are certain things that help toward that end. Breaking a design down to its most simplistic and easily identifiable composition is a good start. So, with that in mind I decided to abandon my original idea of complex explosion and melting animations and go for stark black and white moving ink effects.
Which BRC project has been the most interesting to you as an artist?
The BRC Card Deck was not only a blast to work on but also eye opening as a member of the group. Most of our work together has been about t-shirt design, and all the limitations and recurring artistic qualities that medium brings with it. So it was great to see what the other members could do with no limits, while still working within a common framework. The variety blew me away.
Who is your favorite member of the BRC? (Don’t be shy, I’ll be asking all the others too ;)
Ste7en is the one I know the best, and he makes me laugh.
Which members of the BRC have you met?
Again, Ste7en.
Give us one piece of inside gossip on the BRC.
I imagine most members will make up silly things here, so i'll be serious and say expect some cool new things, in the next year, that are a little familiar but a lot of awesome.
Do the BRC have a secret handshake, if so what is it?
"No touching."
What’s next for the BRC?
I'm still trying to talk them all into a comic book anthology.
Which member of the BRC would you most like to collab with?
I have collaborated with a lot of them now, (slaterock, d3d, and jublin come to mind) and I wouldnt be unhappy to collaborate with all of them- time permitting. Too many to list and I can pick a fav at this point. http://blackrockcollective.com/artists.html
