Consider this a love letter to everyone who complained about the missing cigarette on the gorilla shirt ;) - Teevil

  • Greenlion22said 143 weeks ago

Why would you bother even making a "guys" tee? I couldn't imagine wearing that.
  • Muntoesaid 143 weeks ago

This is trippin, I might have to get this! Gotta have a night to think about it though...
  • stablercakesaid 143 weeks ago

Would have TOTALLY bought this if it were just the snail. I'm not real into the Mucha lady...
  • heartlucesaid 143 weeks ago

I really love your linework, Luke.
  • Palomino0220said 143 weeks ago

    I agree 100% with Greenlion22 lol!

I love her, and everything she stands for.

I like your work, and this mucha-style illo is very nice!
  • movingpangeasaid 143 weeks ago

very nice! still undecided tho -- not big on pink. wish the girl's was cream instead.
  • yayziksaid 143 weeks ago

Wish the guy's came in pink. Still probably gonna get it though.
  • bluebirdsaid 143 weeks ago

    tempting...
  • Silent-tsaid 143 weeks ago

Holy Mucha trace-job! I love seeing art nouveau-based work, but not if I've seen the exact same thing before. Even if it was sans-snail.
  • skonen_bladessaid 143 weeks ago

I gotta side with Silent-t here. This isn't Mucha-inspired so much as it is straight-up traced.

    http://www.arthistoryguide.com/images/27.jpg

I love me some Mucha and I'm a huge fan of the artwork on the sidebar there but I don't think this tee design deviates enough from the work of a master to call your own. Mixing it with a snail is a nice touch but I'm not sure I think it deviates enough. My opinion. Art is subjective. If I had no idea who Mucha was, I'd probably think it was a kick-arse design.

That robot/jukebox thing holding the tree on the sidebar there is sick! And I love that Fleetwood Mac logo.
  • SonBearsaid 143 weeks ago

    Great design + color scheme!
  • I45Livewithmomsaid 143 weeks ago

If that is a joint in her hand, Im buying
  • Mandazsaid 143 weeks ago

I love your drawing style! The linework is fab. The awesome one on the side is my favorite :)
  • jthanesaid 143 weeks ago

@ greenlion22: who cares what you think?

i want this shirt, but i've already screwed the budget.

except the part about this being a trace is kinda lame, but most wouldn't know.

    (draw more octopi)
  • stablercakesaid 143 weeks ago

I in fact know a lot of men who would wear that shirt.

Buuuuuuut I DO go to art school xD
  • TheFlorksaid 143 weeks ago

i do go to art school and would wear it, but not in yellow.. gross! this site shouldn't be so sexist and just make both of them pink. id wear a pink shirt and punch people in the throat.
  • notelovesaid 143 weeks ago

oh man. i am in love with your style and linework as well.. but pink? :p
  • clarkneilpsaid 143 weeks ago

    @I45Livewithmom: I think it's a joint.
  • Nekophoenixsaid 143 weeks ago

Mucha INSPIRED = good. Mucha pretty much traced? = not so good, and very off putting. Interesting concept and all, but the fact that I knew exactly what picture this was copied from the second I laid eyes on it makes me say no. I'm with skonen in that if I didn't know Mucha's work, I would probably think it a kick arse design, but it just looks like a ripped off mash up as it is.
  • kori pantssaid 143 weeks ago

Its gorgeous, the way it all fits together too is also quite awesome.
  • cardinalgoldsteinsaid 143 weeks ago

Seems to be a fine shirt for the ladies. I wouldn't want to be seen in this one, myself.
  • Link117said 143 weeks ago

Put that boat one on a shirt and i'll most definately buy it!!
  • lashtaylorsaid 143 weeks ago

@ jthane: who cares what you think?

I'm gonna have to agree with Greenlion22 on this.
  • leastsaid 143 weeks ago

I'd like to see the octopus and school bus.
  • LukeLukeLukesaid 143 weeks ago

Thanks everybody! Just for the record, definitely not a trace. I'll admit it's a close freehand but I think I definitely took it in a different direction from the Mucha original (e.g., skinnier girl, gianter hair, snail). It's an ode to my favorite piece of art just wanted to do it justice! Anyways, thanks for the print Teefury and I hope everyone who buys one loves it! I can't wait to get mine!
  • Scrimshawsaid 143 weeks ago

    BANANAGRAMS YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  • kittykattysaid 143 weeks ago

If it weren't for the snail's creepy head and eyes, I'd buy it.
  • campkatiesaid 143 weeks ago

  • evildeviantsaid 143 weeks ago

  • allenimagerysaid 142 weeks ago

As I logged in, I was PRAYING that the design off the day would be something I wouldn't buy because I have already bought 2 this week... there IS a GOD!! Thanks for saving me money.. just not MY style.
  • psychesaid 142 weeks ago

Dude, girls don't all want to wear pink or yellow.

  • DevilDollsaid 142 weeks ago

    simply smashing!
  • Qwertysaid 142 weeks ago

I would buy the Octopus & Bus!!
  • monkeyinjacketsaid 142 weeks ago

nice drawing but like Greenlion22 said i can't image a guy wearing that maybe if it was different color on the outline of the snail
  • themidgardknightsaid 142 weeks ago

This is great drawing. I LOVE the robot one. I would want to see this one printed for sure. The octopus and ship ones are awesome too. Keep it up.
  • Rick_ROSSsaid 142 weeks ago

If you look closely- you can see on the origional Mucha, that the smoke is comming from the cigarette- and on this tee it's trailing from her mouth.. definately not a trace.. also the hair is similar in style- but very different on the print, it's a great freehand.. kudos on that.

I think this is more a construct of Alstyle's dramatically limited color selections. I get the feeling there are some shades that they don't have in both genders, also, which contributes to some of the more "stereotypical" tee choices. This wouldn't be an issue with, say, American Apparel, but I recall Teefury's community being very adamant in the long long ago, when there was talk of switching for a higher price-point. By and large, cheaper shirts were more important than more diverse color options and arguable higher quality.

As for this specific shirt, I really like the art and the weirdness, but it isn't for me. Not because it's too feminine... that's a total cop-out answer. I'm just not a fan of Mucha.
  • Arrowsaid 142 weeks ago

It might be tough to hear this Luke but I completely didn't notice that IS Mucha. You can call it a freehand or whatever but there is nothing new, just adjustments to the hair n smoke with a snail. If it was your own creation I would be really impressed and was. I still really dig your work and look forward to more.

  • ShellyShenoysaid 142 weeks ago

I'm SO PISSED that the very first comment on this board is 'why even bother making a "guys" tee' because the design is SLIGHTLY FEMININE.

I'm SORRY, but how many BLOODY, ZOMBIE, ROBOT, ALIEN, GORY, DEVIL, SKATER, PUNK arse, MINION, DARTH VADAR TEE SHIRTS need to happen before ONE LONELY SHIRT arrives that is SLIGHTLY beautiful and not tom-boyish to the max for a female to wear?!

If tee fury is a sight for 'dudes and their junk' only then fine - but since I'm pretty sure it's not, then shut the tarnation up about one in a hundred shirts that's actually suitable for a woman.
  • echoromeoindiasaid 142 weeks ago

love the pink, love the design, love love love this shirt! buying.
  • Euphoriasaid 142 weeks ago

I'm happy they are using more colored shirts for a while there it was all black! i dunno about this one i feel like the octopus one with the schoolbus would have sold more.
  • mattius6said 142 weeks ago

being a big mucha fan i gotta say this: mucha's drawing doesn't look like it's from beauty and the beast. you smurf for copying AND you smurf at copying. stick to original work.
  • DeltaSigChi4said 142 weeks ago

i think its fantastic. looks like the old JOB cigarette ad the Alphonse Mucha did. nice job.
  • Nonie Baloneysaid 142 weeks ago

    Totally Lush!
  • nathanlausaid 142 weeks ago

Seriously... what's with the Mucha elitism? If you are really an Alphonse Mucha connoisseur like many of you say you are you would notice that the female's body angle, the way her hair falls, smoke, lips, hand, etc. are different. I'm a big fan of Mucha's work and I've never seen a half decent T-shirt print of any of it. So why not even if it's an "inspired by" piece?

P.S. I'm a guy, and I bought the "guys" tee.
  • elvenjuiceboxsaid 142 weeks ago

while it is elegant and very art nouveau I don't think it's a copy, more like an inspiration, all be it not a very close one. I think this wouldhave been better colored in or sans color gradient
  • hurricanesyndromesaid 142 weeks ago

Definitely not traced. I find nothing wrong with appropriating imagery to create new imagery. A definite ode to Mucha and done very well.
  • Khoroshosaid 142 weeks ago

This is most certainly a copy. It might not be traced, but that doesn't matter - the concept, the style, and the pose are from a very specific work by Mucha. A better ode to his work might have been to come up with a brand new pose, and then incorporate it into a design.

Tacking a snail on it doesn't make it your work. And it is a great design! Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with this - unfortunately, both TeeFury and the artist are making money on it, and that makes it wrong. :(
  • supersprytesaid 142 weeks ago

Reminds me too much of Mucha's Job for comfort. I'm not even all that familiar with Mucha's works and I caught it.

That being said, the artist seems to have a great sense of line and style; why use something that he doesn't need? The style of the "borrowed" work is a little too different from his own style anyway.

Been liking a lot of TF stuff and the curators are doing a great job, but this one perhaps slipped through the cracks.

    Its beautiful though
  • LukeLukeLukesaid 142 weeks ago

It's so cool to see all this feedback! If you bought one feel free to email me a picture of you wearing it for my website. My last two cents on the trace or not-trace issue: I wonder how many shirts or artworks are out there that use the Mona Lisa or the David as imagery. Also, I wonder if people said Dali traced Millet or if they said Van Gogh traced Hiroshige. Thanks for all the insight everybody! Thanks for the print Teefury! I can't wait to work with you guys again in the future!
