About the artistArt curated by
A word from wotto: Sonmi. So glad to see her work over here. This is one creative girl. If you haven't seen her work then you must have been hiding under a nicely painted rock. /sonmisonmi.com/ is the place to see all her wonderful creations. She is an inspiration to many artists and is blessed with the ability to stay grounded and supportive of others. Welcome Sonmi, pull up a seat by the fire and lets fill a sketchbook with doodles.
Tell us a little about this design.
Lately I've been interested in 3D imagery, like actually using the
positioning between blues and reds to create depth. This design was
inspired by the interest... though obviously isn't 3D itself. It's just
Where in the world are you?
Madison, Wisconsin, USA! We live next to a wise, old tree, with rotting
roots and squirrels living in every hole. It's not unlike the tree in
Poltergeist. It makes watching thunderstorms through our large window
What is your favourite medium?
I work a ton with digital media. Too much. Photoshop + Wacom tablet
makes things so easy. For analog media, I love a simple mechanical
pencil. It produces great linework, and you never have to sharpen it.
Which superhero power would you like the most and why?
Telepathy, maybe. I'd love to know what a dog is thinking sometimes.
Who is the best villain ever?
I like villains who have a soft side. Sorry if that's not specific enough!
What was the last song you listened to?
A song by my friend's band, Burger Kingdom.
One written by an art pal of mine, Will Bryant: "I like nice people who
make cool things." I live by this phrase!
Who has been the best client you have designed for?
I don't know if there's a best one; I'm still at the point of
freelancing where I get excited working with any client, and haven't
been burned quite that much yet. I really enjoy working with the
magazine of my alma mater, The University of Wisconsin- Madison. They
ask me to do some illustrations for them then and again.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Anyone who's open to suggestions.
How many t-shirts do you own?
Too many. I can't really buy that many more. Over 100.
Which website do you go to everyday?
Threadless. Twitter. Flickr. This is pretty much my entire online existence.
