A word from the curator:
Animals are interesting because their gaze cuts right to the core- they don't care what hair style you favor, or what sneakers you've chosen. All they see is who you are and what you do. It's a refreshing kind of x-ray vision that eliminates the bullshit and showcases what matters. In some ways, animals are king.

Tell us the background of this design.
There's this king, see? Except he's--get this--a CHIMP. Also--hang on--he has X-ray glasses.

How did you get started designing t-shirts?
College record store needed a new shirt, I had a Dover book of cool old wood type. PRESTO! The black on black ones were extra fab.

What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Make more things.

What would be your dream job?
I kinda have it, except for the bill-paying part. The rest is superb.

What are your feelings on dinosaurs?
I'd--I'd rather not talk about that. I was told this interview would have no personal questions.

Do you prefer centaurs, griffens, or phoenixes?
Robots. Failing that, streamline cars from the 30s.

Pac Man vs. Donkey Kong: who would win the battle?
Pac-Man: all gums. Advantage, Kong.

Describe the last shirt you bought.
Safety orange, from the hardware store, on sale for $2.

What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Spider-Man, hands down. Wherever there was a hang-up, there he was.

What are a few of your favorite websites?
Google image search and any imagescrapers that present me with a stream of random images. Loc.gov.
Craigslist, always Craigslist. (though there are certainly more mentions of guns 'n' gold here in Phoenix).
A couple whose first rules prevent me from discussing them.
Facebook has become oddly satisfying.
