Colours are fine, and I like the military green.
Though my initial thought on this design was: sloppy. The execution hardly screams "vintage / classic sci-fi". Even your choice of imagery and camera angle are questionable.
I love the style of the illustration, but I feel the content is a bit lack-luster. You said you liked the idea of capturing the 'fight' moment, but I feel that the entire picture is quite frozen.
about the shirt, i like it alot.
the ray gun rocks the socks off just about ANYTHING.
but it does seem messy, but thats just not my style.
a more classic vintage, like an old aquaman comic kind of feel would have been more to my appeal.
great job though, alot of people will still be very happy about it :]
He looks like he's just looking at his gun. It's definitely before the fight moment. Subject matter too unclear. But I do like the sketchy style and the color.
It's interesting how there's a split between people saying there's a lack of finish or a lack of content - I personally find the style to be a bit too loose for a final product, and it could have benefitted from a bit of love from some vintagising if it was supposed to be vintage. Too clean and vectory?
Thanks to all and the constructive crits. I'm not going to defend the style of the design. Yes it is meant to look static, quickly penned, and where vintage fits in is behind the idea as a throw back to old school sci fi descripts.

I just got this from the Teevil Grab Bag, and I have to say it looks a tarnation of a lot better in person. The design is larger, the lines are smoother, and the color of the shirt and the design blend much better than pictured here. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised!
A word from the curator: Space is the final frontier, a place full of mystery, wonder and danger. That makes it a fascinating place to explore, because you never know what you might find... or what might find you.
Tell us the background of this design. I'm really into vintage / classic sci-fi and mystery publications such as Amazing and Astounding from the 1950's. Among so many stories that pepper that decade there is the common "man vs. alien" theme. In many of the short stories of the era authors would describe these villainous creatures who attack the human characters from a dark abyss. It is typical for the human to see only slimy tentacles reaching from the depths and not catch a full glimpse of their alien adversary. I liked the idea of capturing a struggling fight between space man and the ever eluding tentacles. What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you? I'm constantly exploring new platforms and structure for creating unique and original imagery. When I started my career I was doing editorial illustration work and freelancing in a major way. Since my induction to the commercial creative realm it was necessary for me and my work to bounce around. I found out quick freelance illustrators don't make a lot of dough and began to do more graphic work to offset the slant. Since then, the fields have merged and advertising has assisted in the coalescence. When I'm not doing client work or anything commercial there is nothing more I love than to start filling a blank canvas in the studio. There is something mystical that happens somewhere between the hand, brush, and canvas that will never compare to the plastic pen tablet. What do you absolutely not want them to find out? My beard grows 0.75" a month. Name a few of your favorite things. Looking through a lens. The smell of mineral spirits and oils. Tasting homemade wine and cheese. The sound of a distant train rumbling through the night. Collecting antique toys. Being humbled by mountains and oceans. Nostalgia... What are your feelings on the new Pepsi logos? They are spending way too much money on an unconvincing campaign reface! Do you prefer cake, cupcakes, or coffee cakes? I'm really more of a pie man...but I dig a red velvet cake...ooh yeah. CMYK vs. RGB: which would win the battle? CMYK would take the title due to millions of colors and smoother grays. Hey, what would we do without the K? Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much. My favorite shirt is an old school Alice In Chains tee from the grunge days. Sad to say, it is totally falling apart and is way out of print. There is a front and back design and they look like they were Max Ernst collages or a rendition of...I so wish I could find this shirt again! Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium. I spend way more time watching films than reading, but I would absolutely say that reading is way better...just less instant gratification-like. Right now I'm back and forth between Phillip K Dick and HP Lovecraft. I like to switch between retro science fiction and macabre horror lit. What inspires your work? Groups like Matmos, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Bloc Party, and Foals. Artists like Dali, Mark Ryden, Beksinski, and Brad Holland. Minds like Michelangelo, Maya Angelou, Copernicus, and Mandelbrot. Anything that takes me back in time...let's reminisce. Any shout outs? Lemme get a shout out to the mothership and all the funkatronic masters of visual mayhem, bringing the illest ... no scratch that ... dopestokealiscious design imagery to this ego-dimension.

Dig the idea, but the execution is pretty sloppy. Looks like a comp instead of a sketchy final.
Subject matter makes me think of MY MAJESTIC SQUID CAR
...and now I'm sad because my car's broken.

The idea is nifty but c'mon mate, you hardly fleshed it out beyond a thumbnail sketch in terms of quality.
