Words from jimiyo:
Missmonster is always a hot seller. I think it's not only because she makes cool artwork, but truly, she has a very supportive fanbase, and I think it stems from the respect and attention she gives back to them. She loves making art, but also loves her fans. She's someone to follow if you want to know how to succeed as an artist. ENVY!
I know you work like crazy, so what's new with Missmonster?
Yeah man, there is always something new coming out of the missmonster cave. Such is the life of a freelancer. Okay so, i have a TOY coming out through www.patchtogether.com! We are working on getting the paint colors right and then after that it's going into production. It's a big foo dog monster of course. He should be out in April and you can buy one at the PT site! I also teamed up with http://www.starbornalchemy.com/ to make this monster themed custom scented body product line. It's KILLER and the gal that runs the site knocked it all out of the park. First we will have lip balm and body butter...with names like Foo Dog Farts and Chimera Sweat! Haha. Should be ready in a few weeks if not already out at the time of the publishing of this shirt. I'm also planning a silver jewelry piece series with another friend but we are keeping it on the DL for now...should be out sometime this summer/ late spring!
Tell us a pleasant childhood memory.
I'd love to. Snorkeling in the Carribean by myself near dusk. I was about 11 or 12 and i remember looking at the bottom of the sea, scanning things to see which reef i should go explore. I saw a freaking Green Sea Turtle and swam to the bottom to get a closer look.
He let me get close enough to touch the top of his head before he took off like a dart. As an animal nerd, getting to actually touch a WILD sea turtle was a really big deal and i will never forget it.
What one artist are you digging right now?
I just got Paul Richard's new sketchbook in today. Not only is he a nice guy but he's an AMAZING artist. You can see his stuff at http://www.autodestruct.com/ . He makes these designs that are so fun and dynamic, the dude just rocks. Did i mention how nice he is?
Because he is.
What tools are you working with? Computer? Pencils?
Right now I have been doing a lot of digital stuff because for some reason i just want to sit in bed and make art and not go in my studio. I use a tablet to color digitally on my laptop. I get in phases where i switch to loving one medium for a week or two and then change my
mind. I do the same thing with food, go figure. But i was a good girl and did some leather work and a couple real media paintings the other day :D...
What are you looking forward to in the next 3 years?
I'm so bad at judging the future but i will take a stab. I am looking forward to growing up more, honing my skills and becoming a stronger person over the next three years. I look forward to hardening my shell a bit and letting more roll off my back. Looking forward to the economy getting better hopefully so people will be happier and not worry so much. Short term, i look forward to hitting up San Diego Comic Con this year and every year! My favorite thing to do as far as nerdy stuff. And super short term, i look forward to the ice cream I'm going to eat after i answer these questions....
Anything you want to promote, say, or soapbox?
Hmmm, here are store links if people are interested in my other stuff:
A huge thank you of course to the folks that constantly support me, look out for me and send me love via this series of tubes called the internet. I cannot do this without you guys and it all keeps me going. I will keep up my end and will continue making cool stuff for your eyeballs to enjoy!
