doesn't mean it's not cool ^_^ and i'd get the women's if i didn't look awful in yellow so instead i shall get the men's! agreed on the foo dog though, totally bitchin!
i agree with ladynightshade that it's stereotypical, but i gotta add this design is a LOT cleaner than the ordinary dragon shirt, which is what i like about it. it's a simple design of a dragon without and stupid text or some dumb banners ruining it. i like it because it's a just a dragon. nothing flashy, but hey, not every shirt's gotta stand out. i think this design would go well with most any outfits that needs a good shirt.
don't like the yellow either, maybe if the colors were inverted...yellow ink on a blue shirt. i'd buy that.
thinking again the design isn't the issue making this shirt feel run of the mill...it's really the colors. grey on grey is bland and the yellow people just don't seem to like. different colors may make this shirt stand out more.
I've just seen this type of design way too many times. After all, the Japanese (Asian) style dragon has been depicted in art for a thousand years or so... Well done but over done.
"An obvious tribute to some of my favorite old school Martial arts movies. One of them "The flying guillotine ". I could visualize this design tattooed on one of the contenders battling the Guillotine! Classic film. Oh and can't forget about "The Big Boss" and "Fist of Fury". Two classic Bruce Lee films! If you haven't seen them.... Check it out! Btw The [Asian letters] on the top mean "Soul" and "Strength"."
Oh man. What's with all the awesome yellow! I wish I liked the designs that came with them. Sigh... Also, sadly, I feel uncomfortable walking around in Asian inspired shirts.
Me = Asian
Dragons = Asian
Chinese characters = Asian
Yellow = Asian
Ha. But to necrophyte. Dude, I read that article and it made my blood start to boil.
I wanna give credit to the artist for the detail in the design, but wal-marty indeed...this looks like a generic tee by a no-name brand trying to capitalize on a trend like tee's with dragons on them, which Im pretty sure hasnt been trendy for awhile now, unless you're an anime head. I think the girls got the better end of this deal as far as the color scheme's tho.
My sentiments exactly, Nellie. And I don't even have a Chinese name (is Chinese). Heck, Chinese aren't even close to having the weirdest names in the world. At worst we only have three syllables.
"Indians are Asians too!" D:
~ Russel Peters
*opens can of worms* I'm personally irked at the contemporary, popular use of the word "Asian".
I would have to agree with Nellie. I'm half asian (Japanese) and I feel uncomfortable with wearing t-shirts with asian imagery on it. But that's just me. I feel like americans like to either idolize or degrade the "asian world". It is very difficult for a half asian with no "true" identity to wear something that may be based in ignorance. MB, i'm not trying to be rude, my opinion is based on personal experience and purely at that...it has nothing to do with you at all. How can i judge you if I don't even know you! ^_^
I will say this, it is one of the better designs of asian imagery that i've seen in a long time. I like the placement of the image near the collar of the T-shirt, and the use of kanji in a non-intrusive manner. Overall, you did a good job.
Personally, I don't mind the yellow for the ladies, but would've like a yellow/orange ink. Why not go all in?
Necrophyte- I have been quilty of using the word "Asian" in conversation when I do not know the specific country of origin. Just as I have said "Middle Eastern" or "European" or "African". I have been to locations in all of these vacinities, but sometimes too underinformed to distinguish in casual conversation. I don't believe when people say "Asian" that it is always intended as a slight or insult, just a description of approximate origin. With all that being said- if I were publicizing something, I'd probably figure it out first...
If I had to use one word to describe this design, it would be: boring.
Not only have I seen way to many chinese dragons, I also think the symmetry of the design makes it very uninteresting. There's nothing to catch my eye, especially when it's gray on gray.
Sadly I agree on "Wal-Mart-y"
Dragon shirts... come on! Might as well print "Sports Division 1982" on it.
Plus the girls color is awful again. Bright, happy, lemony yellow with a mean-looking, mystical dragon?
i love how people throw around the word "stereotype" without knowing how to use it correctly.
But yeah, this design is waaaay overdone and lacks any distinguishable traits that would set it apart from its predecessors.
The black and grey is kind of boring, and --despite what people say-- I rather like the yellow and blue together. No buy, though, it's not my kind of shirt. Sorry. Amazing pic anyway.
Jeeeez! Everyone is a critic. No ones forcing you to buy this shirt. Sheesh. Besides, it's not a bad shirt and I love yellow! (I do realize that yellow doesn't look good on everybody.)
haha...good call above. in the UK, you'd get this T at next or burton (not the snowboard brand). Super lame sorry. Come on T-fury, let's see some original designs.
Though I agree the Asian prints are a bit over-done, I love it.
Love it.
LOVE IT.
So I'm getting it. What I like most, besides the silver, is the symmetry. I love how the dragon pans across the bust, rather than spread around the entire shirt, like most dragon prints. So I like it.
Besides, I would like more silver shirts in my closet. Nice touch.
So....buy!
Oh, and the sun's collapse would kill us far sooner than the black hole it creates. Remember, there's the supernova phase, which will wipe out the solar system.
Actually our sun doesn't have enough mass to ever collapse into a black hole, and as to NeoCenturio's comment, the sun is also not massive enough to ever become a supernova. It will become a white dwarf though, which is way cool but not nearly as exciting as a black hole.
Can't agree with you more, Mr. McKbrown. As you might've noticed in my first post, I'm very much aware of that. I actually think that there is no such thing as being "offended". But I do want to help people stop sounding like they're ignorant. I don't mind the occasional use of generalizations in casual conversation, but tell me whether or not you feel "Asian letters" up there bothers you as a supposedly accurate semi-professional representation of "Chinese Hanzi" or "Japanese Kanji". I'm hoping you know how many kinds of written languages fall under the category of having an approximate origin in Asia.
*waits for comments about how I'm apparently making a mountain out of a molehill*
Thanks for the correction, Razela :)
I knew my astronomy was a bit rusty.
But if the sun were larger, granted that the distances and sizes of the surrounding planets were adjusted accordingly, would the supernova kill us?
"a half asian with no 'true' identity"
Reijn, you break my heart! As someone who is multiracial as well, we all have an identity. There is no such thing as a "false" identity unless you're pretending to be someone you're not.
Necrophyte- I don't disagree with you at all. Which is why I said if I were going to publish something, I would figure it out first- to ensure accuracy.
MB- I too find the symmetry of this design and the tone on tone coloring very appealing.
Neo, I highly suggest reading the book Death From the Skies by Phil Plait. It's fun and silly, but also accurate and interesting. In explaining what would happen to a planet orbiting a star that goes supernova, he says "having your primary star explode in a billion-degree conflagration can end in only one way...torched, sterilized, and any air or water is stripped away by the sheer energy of the explosion." So, there you have it.
Each person as an identity for the self. But when trying to identify with an already established culture...when you don't have a defined culture...is a tough world to live in. That is what i was trying to say.
Mission Brainwash was one of my first curated artists here at Teefury. Time flies so fast. MB just keeps gettin better too! Dragons are irresistable, unless you have a Dragon Orb, but uh... well... very hard to come by. Good luck gettin it from Lorac.
Tell us about this design.

Is the world going to end in 2012?
No, but we'll finally make contact with beings from another solar system...
If Gozar the Gozarrian was like, "Yo, choose the form of your destructor," and you had to choose the method in which the Earth would be destroyed, what would it be?
Sucked in a black hole from the Sun collapsing... Or how about another (inhabited) planet colliding with Earth...
