A word from the curator:
What does hope look like? For most of western history, it has taken the form of angels- winged creatures who play the role of the hand of fate. I love this design's more modern take on that classic imagery, a tip of the hat towards the beautiful chaos that makes life so interesting.
Tell us the background of this design.
I feel everyday, everyone has someone guiding them whether it be saving them from a car crash, the mistiming of events, the fortune of people you meet by chance and so on. I've had this silver necklace piece that I've always wanted to attach to a chain. I found it after my grandmother died some years back and I've had it my wallet ever since, probably 11 years. I finally found a chain and now I wear it around my neck. It reads "May your angel always walk beside you" by Patricia Victoria. I'm going through some life changing things in my life so this necklace is kind of guiding me or protecting me, or so I feel, as sappy as that sounds. It has the same image on the shirt as it does on the necklace. Hopefully, people will find some sort of faith in it or some inner meaning as I feel it's not just a shirt but some kind of body armor to protect us from the uphill struggles of life.
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
My good friend Josh Kenyon (www.jolby.blogspot.com) was always designing shirts in college. He didn't have to work as his shirts supplied him with enough income. He threw me a job for a band and the rest is history.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
1.Monster Energy drinks will help you concentrate better while working.
2.Enter contests and use the feedback to get better.
3.Find the most talented kid in school and become friends with him/her.
What would be your dream job?
Playing center for the MInnesota Wild Hockey team or having a small studio with people banging on my door to do killer print, packaging, apparel design etc...
What are your feelings on trilogies?
Usually, the first one is the best. You're always going to compare the others to the first.
(George Lucas screwed Star Wars up big time.)
Do you prefer pop, punk, or metal?
I like metal at 6am! My iPod is filled with anything from Atmosphere to Johnny Cash.
Helvetica vs. Futura: who would win the battle?
Helvetica has already won the battle. It's everywhere. Futura is a close second though.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
Probably The Hunter by a_mar_illo from Barcelona, Spain. It's such a good drawing and interesting idea. I'm all about hand drawn artwork. It came out really nice. You can get it here: http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/detail/2625?artist=61&category=1&sort=
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
I was never into comics. I loved the Flintstones, Skoobie Doo, G.I.Joe, The Road Runner, The Jetsons! I'm an 80's cartoon guy.

I must agree about Helvetica, although I'm not a big Futura fan. I'm now on Akzidenz, the grandfather of sans serif.

Nevertheless, still a good design; just bit too girly for me.

edit.
before i order, i wonder what the wrap around looks like?
does it abruptly stop like the image suggests, or does it wrap around the shirt a little bit?

That's very depressing.
Oh well, I'm all for supporting an artist, especially one with such aesthetically pleasing work.
You win, I'm sold,
congrats.
It really is a nice design.

Sorry, too generic, too easy. Some of your other designs are nice, though. The Minneapolis one is interesting.
