A word from the curator:
Derek's style, with it's angular lines and uncanny color sense, is a breath of fresh air. Each character's pose tells us everything we need to know about who that person is and what role they fill, from the confident athlete to the slouching slacker. His designs aren't just to look at, they're made for exploring.

Tell us the background of this design.
Recent viewings of Meatballs and Mac and Me prompted a need to purge the memories from my cerebrum. Art is therapy.
 
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
It's not contagious.
 
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
One of my current favorite television programs is iCarly. I like the Gibby episodes.
Also, I  am trying to collect cartoons from the 80's marketed to girls specifically to sell toy products. If anyone out there has vhs copies of Moondreamers or Glo-friends contact me.

Name a few of your favorite things.
Mike Diana comics, old vhs cover art (especially if it's faded by the sun), triscuits, Terry Richardson, and Irene Cara.

In fact, if Irene Cara comes out with a new album please let her know I want to do the cover art.
 
What are your feelings on silent movies?
No thanks.  Not my thing.
The last few movies I watched were Slave of the Cannibal God, Prisoners of the Lost Universe, and Rollerboogie.

Do you prefer gold, silver, or bronze?
Silver, because I make gold turn green.

Giant squid vs. nuclear submarine: which would win the battle?
The squid would win. Nuclear submarines are mythological creatures.

Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
Kenny Rogers 1982 World Tour purple tee with white stitching. It's super comfortable from age. I'll weep when it falls apart.

Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
Reading is best. Unfortunately, I don't have much time to read anymore. The last thing I read was DC Showcase presents Green Lantern volume 1.

What inspires your work?
I often get ideas from looking at the acoustical flocking on the ceiling. Y'know, the cottage cheese looking stuff.

Yeah, to my awesome wife, daughter, and unborn son.
They are really, really cool.
