Teefury

A word from the curator:
It is now Christmas Day, one of the few days in the year when most people settle in to spend time just being with their families and the people who are most important to them. With that in mind, today's TeeFury is a piece from Furyous Omnibus, commemorating the first time that this community joined together in celebration. The colors make it a great holiday tee, but the style ensures that it is just as at home any other time of year.

Tell us the background of this design.
This happy, holy birdie was my submission to a recent TeeFury collaborative shirt design. He's a friendly, quasi-mechanical fowl who's always ready to whisper into your ear the right thing to do.

What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
That I'm happy to be here.

What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
That when a Hall & Oates song comes on the radio, I don't always turn it off.

Name a few of your favorite things.
Cherry Coke, spaghetti, psychedelia, pixels, Star Trek, the public library, Elvis, googie, Godzilla, kitsch, vectors, LOLcats, and Barbara Stanwyck

What are your feelings on science?
She blinded me with it! But seriously, it's made our lives easier, it helps us live longer, and it gave us the Wii remote. So, what's not to like?

Which is your favorite dog breed?
The hot dog. I don't really care much for canines, but hot dogs are delicious.

Which TV show is your all-time favorite?
The Twilight Zone. And I mean the original series with Rod Serling introducing each tale ... with his lips stretched tightly across his teeth and gripping a smoking cigarette at chest level. Some of those old episodes really give me a thrill.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would you change?
I'd hire the Great Men of Science (you know, those guys that make us live longer and provide us with motion-sensing, wireless video game controllers) to build a giant magnetic coil that would absorb all the hate, spite, and maliciousness on the planet and store it in an enormous battery which would then be detached from the giant coil and launched directly towards the sun.

Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
Gaming is fun, but I'm mostly poor at it. Reading is great, but there's never enough time to read all the books that I want. It's movies that move me, and they take priority. Though I watch flicks from a broad range of genres and eras, it's the b&w films I love best (those in which most everybody who participated is now dead) and Citizen Kane is the cream of the crop.

What inspires your work?
The funky design and decor of the 70s and the 80s video games of my childhood, the 60s psychedelia that pre-dated me, the old Marvel and Richie Rich comics I snagged from used book stores during my teenage years, and the art of the Northern Renaissance which mesmerized me in college.
