dont like the fact that there is a copyright on the shirt. im liking the color scheme but this isnt for me. thats ok though because i just bought yesterday's tee.
Not that I blame artists for wanting to protect their work from being ripped off, by all means stick your watermarks on your deviantart uploads, but, we ARE paying for this, so you are already getting credit. Note to future TeeFury tee-designers-to-be.
And, if you have to put it on there, at least make it so that it's not an eyesore.
I swear I'm gonna flip if this post gets deleted or modified.
ok i had to stare at this a long while, and normally i make my decisions in less than 10 minutes...
the colors on this NEARLY made me buy even though i had reservations about other stuff, but the other stuff won out im afraid.
to ME it looks to have been "cut out" from a complete design, and not with much care. although i understand the capabilities of a reticulated reptile, it still feels bent wrong. as for the copyrighted issue, hey im the first to say tag your work... but dammit make it fit into the design.
so, with much regret, i must pass this time :(
Okay... I'm about to say something that will probably get me banned from Tee Fury, but I think I'll say it anyway. I'm a HUGE fan of this site and this project. I love the limited addition 24 hour gig. Amazing. But... I think it's time you stepped it up a bit. A lot of the t-shirts I have seen lately look like stuff I could get at Target or Old Navy. I understand what it takes to make a great print with screens and passes and ink and what not, and some basic prints are really great. And I know you can't get a killer shirt for $9 anywhere. I have to agree though, this one looks like elements were removed to "make it work". Perhaps it's the addition of artists prints to the right that are killing it for me. Some of their stuff is super amazing and they kind of minimize the artistic-ness of the T print. Case in point with Sherrie. I would love to see that crow print on a shirt.
As for the Copyright comments. I would agree. Make it a cool signature or something. The bold out of place lettering completely takes away from the art.
Thanks for all you do Tee Fury. You still totally rock and hope you keep kicking ass. Just my $.02
GReat idea! the art conveys it well, I like the simplicity of the design. Gotta say that bird on the right is one of the coolest illos I have seen in a minute! Congrats!
Shirts like this make me cry. No offense Sherrie, because I really like some of the stuff in your portfolio, but its like you lost half of your design knowledge when making the shirt.
The line work looks shabby and the colors are awkward next to each other. Not only that but its oversimplified and too cliche.
Like Fat Possom this is just my 2 cents but TeeFury really needs to step up their game when selecting work, IMO.
Oh and don't even get me started on the copyright.
I love the rest of your work, But I don't like this shirt. It's too generic. I might have liked it if it wasn't in an "o" but I guess being in an "o" was part of the whole plan. The copyright is really tacky too. But at least you put it on a cool color of shirt. I love dragons but not this shirt. Try the crow or skull next time! Those are killer!
No more "eyesore" copyrights.
No more generic shirt designs.
It's a bit counterproductive to display such a secondhand design alongside some of the artist's more respectable work. The shirt looks almost terrible at first glance by comparison. The discovery of the boldly stated copyright after a closer look only further degrades the value of this shirt to a possible customer.
Don't set yourself up for failure like this, TeeFury.
Don't scare us like this again. Please.
Hey guys, can you try to keep your criticisms a bit more constructive? (ie, "This is well-made, but I prefer the style of the work in the sidebar" instead of "This isn't as good as the sidebar and it looks like Target") While we love to hear your opinions, part of what I've always enjoyed about TeeFury is how welcoming and supportive a community it can be :)
Plus, if we get a rep for being too tough on artists, it will be harder to get awesome people like Sherrie to give us a try!
Oriental dragons will always be cool & this one is killa.
I love the curves in the background, they really give this peice movement.
Also the colours are bang on & are freakin sweet on a navy tee.
All in all this design is dope & I hope like hell Sherrie sends more art work Tee Fury's way.
One more thing, the art work to the right is amazing!
Great work Sherrie :)
Love the colors. Love the design. Really love Asian dragons. The copyright killed it for me. Artists should definitely protect their work, but that could've come off for the print. No thanks.
Wow, some of the comments are harsh! Many of these complaints could easily have been sent to Wotto directly, and privately, rather than causing a single artist to bear the weight of supposed disappointments "lately". Perhaps such comments fall in line with comments like first!, in their look at me! look at me! effect.
I hope Sherrie continues to submit here. I love the dragons expression. The raven is amazing! Want!
I really really like the colors and the flame in the background, but dragons are not my style at all. Especially since the dragon seems a little too circle looking. I love the dragon on the left, though, but I gotta say I need to pass this one.
What Targets do you guys go to because I'm sure as hell I couldn't find something like this..
and I just noticed the copyright(after reading some comments). It doesn't stick out or anything, only if you notice it at first. I'm sure on the T-Shirt no one will even see it so don't make such a big deal out of it. :/
i'm not liking it, it seems to plain and unfinished. also, maybe it's just me but i keep trying to follow the body of the dragon and i can't make it meet up...not a fan of this or anything recently
all in all i am definitely liking the image here but dragons have never been my thing. i just spent some time looking through your portfolio and there is some amazing work. i definitely think you should continue submitting here and i am looking forward to seeing more of your work on a t-shirt.
At first I thought this was a new colour offering, as it looks nothing like the Navy-coloured tees I've purchased in the past. The mockup looks a lot lighter than the actual navy. Or maybe my monitor is off. Or maybe my eyes are still crusty and sleep-deprived and blinded by the sunrise. I'd best go with 'C'.
congrats on the print. that raven design is serious good. and please try and leave the copyright out next time. it distracts from the art and depreciates the shirt a little.
I love the raven on the side and would have gotten that in a heartbeat for my brother for the holidays. I would have seriously considered the death thing with the wings too.
As to this design, the dragon doesn't flow on this one to me. Where does the part near the mouth go? It looks like it ends and then reappears higher on the design. Also, the type face for the copyright really bugs me. I think it takes away from the art instead of adding to it. Also, I'm sure I would buy a t-shirt where the designers copyright mark was so obvious, I think it would go over better if it was blended into the design.
One last thing, is the design really that low on the women's shirt? That would put it right over my stomach and...um...yeah, no.
Just to be clear. I thought I was stating that the artists work is usually frickin' awesome on the sidebar. Tee Fury does a great job of finding awesome artists. I was just noticing that the design chosen to be on the T is usually much simpler.
Didn't think to comment to Wotto directly. Good point by whoever said that.
I dig the colour combo.. but placement seems a bit low. Should be 4" from collar that is industry standard for centre chest.
The art is cool but it's missing something... like the dragon body doesn't make sense to me.. where it goes and ends up.
I concur with whom ever posted above.. the art/shirt need to step up.
If you guys are printing these before they go up like you claim. Then why not post images of the actual printed shirt.. instead of these cheesy mock ups?
I wonder how accurate your mock ups are compared to the actual product.. like ink colours, placement, art size, etc...
Sblake: These mocks should be pretty accurate, as this is the same mock that the printers see.
I don't believe that shirts are being printed ahead of time, either, so posting images of an actual printed shirt is probably a bit impossible for the time being.
I absolutely love the raven on the side, but I'm not a fan of oriental dragons at all. It's a nice illustration, but I come to TeeFury for rediculous shirts and art I couldn't get anywhere else.
something off about the dragon's tail that is throwing the whole shirt off for me. I didn't noticed the copywrite until it was pointed out... I was too busy trying to figure out where the tail is coming from...
I love the color combination on this, but the tail is making it hard for me to look at... I'm totally fixated on it.
As for the sidebar... I'm with everyone else on the raven being totally bad-ass. Sherri, your work is exceptional... please redo the raven so it can be printed on a shirt... I'd buy that without even thinking about it!
(after looking at it again, it totally reminds me of jimiyo's raven shirt that was printed here a long time ago that I"m actually wearing today... I'd still buy another raven shirt. Can't have too many bird shirts nowadays.)
A lot of the complaints here are because it's pretty obvious Sherrie is much more talented than this particular design demonstrates. This shirt is good but the sidebar stuff is great.
Also, some people can't see the shape of the dragon's body, which is because this design is overly simplistic. If there was one more color to show shadows on the dragon it would be clear the dragon is not in an "O" shape, but "spiral-ish".
I love the colours. The design isn't overworked, which can sometimes be the case with dragons. I just don't like the body shape of the dragon. It took too long for me to see the continuity of its body. I can't get past the initial reaction that the body was wrong.
As for the copyright... it's a T-shirt, not an oil painting. Get over it. Even oil paintings have signatures. Give the artists their due.
Thank you all for taking the time to discuss, debate, criticize, and/or support my Flash-based site and designs. It's been really interesting to see the conversation progress throughout the day. I understand some of your concerns with the copyright; I have been ripped off before, but your comments are duly noted. In regards to the difference of illustration style, I've always loved exploring and experimenting with different artistic styles and understand that certain content and styles are not for everyone.
With that said, thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your day.
You have my vote for #1 on this design. Once again your design rocks!
Also, thanks for the nod about my work. I'll be posting some new designs here soon.
Tell us a little about this design. I've always been inspired by my Asian heritage, tattoos, and mysticism. With Dragon O, I wanted to experiment with opposing ideals—freedom and confinement—the carefree spirit of the dragon in a restricting, but universal shape.
Where in the world are you? San Francisco Bay Area.
What is your favourite animal? Can you guess? Dragons, dragons, and oh, dragons. Snakes are a close second.
Which superhero power would you like the most and why? Invisibility. Learn the world's secrets and take over! Buahaha!
Who is the best villain ever? Joker—he's always having a good time.
What was the last song you listened to? Hieroglyphics & Goapele: Soweto
Favourite quote/lyric? "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"—Da Vinci
If you were a curator here which artist would you ask for a design from first? Shane J. Wiggins has insanely cool designs.
What do you find most annoying about the Internet? Spamming.
Who is the best T-shirt designer in the world right now? Ooh, that's a toughy. There's so many amazing designers & illustrators out there--can't just stick to one. . . Shepard Fairey, Sam Flores, and Simone Legno always throw out cool stuff. Also love the tattoo artwork from Horiyoshi III on the Affliction line.
Which website do you go to everyday? Flickr. Addicted and loving it.

It does seem kind of lop-sided to me, though. But then again that is probably because it's poorly shopped onto that girl's shirt.
nobahdisaid 180 weeks ago

but, i do agree, the girls shirt does look quite lop-sided, but it might just be the placement they used on the model.
