About the artist
RyanAstle
Tell us about this design.
Well it's kind of a quirky one! Ever since I was a kid I thought that the "Explosive Materials" warning symbol looked like a certain nigh-indestructable battle station. If only the Empire hadn't underestimated the mighty inhabitants of the forest moon.
Where are you from?
I'm from New Brunswick, Canada.
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
I'm a Graphic Designer by trade and I needed some extra cash so I started looking for design contests to enter. I've got a few T-shirt prints here and there, this is my 2nd TeeFury design.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Write down your ideas immediately so you don't forget them. I often email them to myself. I also enjoy looking through the archives of tee design sites to try to get a feel for what they are looking for. Checking out the daily tee blogs is a lot of fun. It's kind of like the old days of reading comic strips in the newspaper.
What would be your dream job?
I'd love to create some kind of pop culture property of my own, and then I'd let people create parodies and mash-ups of it because that is an excellent, free source of advertising. :)
What is your favorite thing about science-fiction?
That anything can happen.
What would your ideal house be like?
It would look like a normal house on the outside but would have fireman poles and slides to get downstairs, bookcases that turn to reveal secret rooms, and various Rube Goldberg-esque contraptions.
Swords vs. lightsabers: which would win the battle?
I don't know, but that question made me imagine He-Man and Skeletor being zapped into the Star Wars universe. Skeletor would team up with Vader on an evil scheme, and He-Man and Luke would meet and have an obligatory good guy vs.good guy fight, where Luke would be astonished that his lightsaber can't cut through He-Man's sword! Then they team up and defeat their arch enemies and throw their heads back and laugh. :)
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Probably cartoons. Saturday morning was always such a big thing to look forward to as a kid. It's hard to pick a favorite - but growing up in small town Canada without cable, meant having a limited selection sometimes. I have fond memories of the watching the 60's Spider-man in the 80's, and also the Mighty Hercules with his sidekick Newton, and the classic villains Daedalus and the Mask of Vulcan!
What are a few of your favorite websites?
I'm not going to include all of the intellectual and thought provoking sites that I visit, because there are too many... so I'll just mention the geek stuff: neatorama, superpunch, theawesomer, designspiration, dayoftheshirt, shirtoid, teekeep.
Any shout outs?
I don't know who curated this one yet, but thanks TeeFury for printing this quirky design :)

wrestling nerds are not nearly well represented enough :)
Today's shirt is also pretty sweet, but I've gotten incredibly picky on what I buy lately.

I did buy that Iron Man shirt though, I absolutely love it.
Bazinga Bubblegum makes me cringe (as do all BBT shirts), but Nixon 3012, Mega Powers, and ESPECIALLY the Darth Vader Pokeball Meditation Chamber are all wonderful, I could easily see myself buying one of those.
