The Doctor Is In
About the artistArt curated by
Tell us about this design.
It's based off the medical alert symbol of two snakes entwining a winged staff (swapped out and replaced with a sonic screwdriver) which is itself based off the Greek/Roman myth of Hermes/Mercury (the Roman god of travelers). When I think of the Doctor, I also think of everyday doctors which causes me to think of the medical alert symbol. Along with this symbol I wanted to play off the idea of the two heart beats, and threw in some written Gallifreyan language.
Where are you from?
What has been your most adventurous moment?
Driving from California to Minnesota and back again (straight through, non-stop) during snowstorms, below freezing temps and blustering winds. Let's just say that if the Donnor party had had snow chains made available to them they wouldn't have had to resort to eating one another. I know for a fact that there is plenty of road kill along the way, I dragged it a few hundred miles.
What has been the most valuable advice you've been given?
I have two things I would like to mention, one being advice I was given and the other being a quote, both from the same legendary illustrator Thomas B. Allen. He once told me, "Be yourself as an artist, look to your sketchbooks to tell the story that will be your life's work". The quote that I will always look back on in which to fuel my inspiration for my illustration career is, "Certainly there are experiences that have given meaning to my life and work. They fueled the beginning of my journey and have continued to provide inspiration as I've pressed on." Thomas B. Allen
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
Devils Dance Floor- Flogging Molly
What is your favorite thing about bow ties?
The personality they can give depending on the colors and patterns used.... not to mention they're classy and nerdy at the same time.
Jukebox vs. iPod: which would win the battle?
Well in a fair fight I think the Jukebox would due to it having about 100 pounds on the little guy. But in game of wits, the iPod would totally own the day.
Describe the strangest shirt you own.
One of my Sam Flores shirts, he is one of my favorite artists but his t-shirt designs can be amazingly strange :)
What would be your dream project to work on?
A modern style children's story book, a graphic novel, or a movie poster. It's hard to say, there are a lot of things I would love to do.
Any shout outs?
To all the wonderful people in my life that are supporting me and helping spread the word about Onebluebird art.
