About the artist
Tell us about this design.
kevlar51: It illustrates the tragic ending of a once great cream-filled-sponge-cake-turned-cowboy. Did you know they aren't making Twinkies anymore?
CoD: What Kev said!
Where are you from?
kevlar51: Hanover, MD
CoD: I'm from New Jersey and I love fried twinkies!
Which art style would you most like to learn?
kevlar51: Art Deco. It's epic. I've dabbled with it here and there, but I'd really like to take the time and study Art Deco to learn the ins and outs.
CoD: I would love to learn how to draw anime and manga characters. I love the exaggeration of features in the face especially during emotional scenes.
If you had a time machine, which era would you visit first?
kevlar51: I'd like to see Rome during the Pax Romana, while it was really flourishing. After that though, I'm definitely going pretty far into the future.
CoD: I would visit Hilly Valley circa November 5th 1955... right around the time of the Enchantment under the sea dance! Seriously though I would like to visit the 50s and try out for the Yankees. I think I have a solid chance at pro baseball around that time era.
What goal do you most aspire towards?
kevlar51: Happiness. That mostly involves keeping my family happy these days--if they're happy then I'm happy.
CoD: That's a good one Kev! I like Peace as much as Happiness. My goal is to make a lot of people happy whether it's through art, entertainment or helping people rebuild their lives in a healthier way.
If you could stop any t-shirt trend in its tracks, which would you end? What trend would you like to see started?
kevlar51: I think the Keep Calm shirts have run their course. I'd always like to see more robot shirts. They definitely exist, but I wouldn't call them a "trend."
CoD: Splatters gotta go. I need to stop splattering stuff. It's just an excuse to be sloppy :)
Would you rather be a cowboy or a sheriff?
kevlar51: Sheriff. When I shoot a bad guy, I want to be sure that the law's got my back (because I am the law).
CoD: I would be the Sheriff for sure. Little known fact about me... I earned a perfect score on public service exam. I rather make art than protect and serve.
Twinkie vs. Ding Dong: which would win the battle?
kevlar51: Twinkie. Please.
CoD: Twinkies all the way! Fried Twinkies are better.
Describe the first shirt you ever designed.
kevlar51: In high school I designed a shirt for an art education convention. It was the Maryland flag cut out in the shape of a crab against a blue background.
CoD: I designed a Tee for a college open house. It was lame.
What has been your most inspiring art experience?
kevlar51: Getting that first print from a shirt-a-day site. It made me realize that some people really do like my work and I should keep at this.
CoD: Every year NY Comic Con proves to be more inspiring than the next. I get so motivated and inspired from the talent I meet up with and the artist alleys. This year being was extra special to me because I was able to spot a lot of daily t-shirts in the wild including my own.
Any shout outs?
kevlar51: Hi Kerry! Hi Max! Long live the Illuminati!
CoD: I'd like to shout out my man Kev for working with me. He was one of the talented people I met at Comic Con this year. He asked me if I could help him achieve his goal of getting printed at TeeFury and I like to think I helped a little. Really though it was all him.
